No problem. Can you say how got the Google Play promo?

You know, I have no idea :D

It is sent to my GMail account directly from Google, and that account is tied to Google Play (and other services), so I'd assume that's the entry point.

FWIW, back from December, through the end of January, I wound up getting 3 of these 50% off to own promos (and two $0.99 rentals), and they're good for any movie, sets, new releases (I think pre-orders were the only exclusion). It's nice because you click through from the email, auth into Google, then it stores them so you don't have to use it immediately. Then during the purchase process it will show the discount of an available promo (assuming oldest first), but it will also allow you to apply any you have (or none at all, like when the IP Man trilogy was $2.99, I opted not to use one).

I hadn't gotten one in a few weeks - I did use all the others I received - maybe I'm flagged as a "repeat consumer" or something :D

Thanks. Nice deals. I did find info that said this 50% off deal ran through January 22nd. I haven't purchased from Google Play primarily because their Shaw Brothers library is shaky at best (not offering native language on a lot movies I own - unlike iTunes, or charging more for the Chinese language version).

The other thing I am uncertain of, can you download GP movies to your drive and watch them offline?

At any rate, I hope you enjoy the movie.

For me, when I want kung fu and comedy I go to the unlikely source of former Shaws teeny bopper star, David Chiang*. The guy was genuinely funny and wasn't afraid to make fun of his various images (heart throb, heir apparent to Bruce Lee etc.) With that I watched his first directorial effort, A Mad World of Fools (1974). The skits not involving Chiang were largely sexual or slightly taboo gags which fell sort of flat, but the two shorts he was a part of worked beautifully. In the first, his daydreaming slight, bookish young lad wishes he was as good at kung fu as his idols and sees himself protecting his girlfriend from lustful goons. Actually, she saves him but doesn't say anything. Sure, you've seen it a zillion times before but for 1974 it was cute. The second short focuses on Chiang's bored, rich young waif who pickpockets for fun using a mannequin arm (in a visual wink to his turn as the Shaws' second one-armed swordsman) and naturally steals some important records from the local criminals. This turns into an almost movie-long chase which culminates in a cemetery. Again, full of gags we all know by now, but I find them amusing.

I was hoping to see one of Chiang's last on screen comedic roles (as the superior to Sammo Hung's bumbling cop, Officer Tuba) but only the trailer for Where is Officer Tuba? is online.

*I dislike Jackie Chan and have better luck with Sammo Hung; but for me, David Chiang is the funniest of the kung fu comedians because he gets both visual and verbal gags as corny as many of them can be.

Under the Skin Great SciFi for those that truly like the genre, not for those seeking acton. Under the Skin is a slow burn, requiring the viewer to do the thinking, interesting and rather unique. Those that read SciFi will likely enjoy, for me one of Scarlett Johansson's best performances...

I noticed at Rotten Tomatoes audience approval was 55%. Then I watched this trailer which as far as trailers go, is one of the most uninformative I've ever seen. However as I seem to have a crush on the actress, I might still watch it. :)

Not a straight forward film, similar to others you will either like or strongly dislike it. Slow paced and requires the viewer to put some pieces together with little dialogue & explanation. Under the Skin is deeply alluring and disturbing, if looking for action & adventure this is not the vehicle, being very much the antithesis of the typical Hollywood SciFi. For me requires a couple of views to really get in to it.

First Shot (1993) Ti Lung's stoic cop Wong Fat Chung almost single-handedly fights corruption in his department during 1973-74. Oh, you know this man won't quit after coming back from being shot in the head (and ultimately working with the young cadet who shot him!)...but it's not easy when everyone around you is so desiring the good life.

Teamed with 3 young cadets and a sleepwalking solicitor (Maggie Chung, not a fan beyond one performance), Wong eventually gets his men but at a very severe cost. I bet you can guess how this ends.

Still, outside of mucking up the era (no 70s clothes or winks beyond news of Bruce Lee's passing, and worse, mentioning AIDs at a gay bar intel run) this was very good.

Was delighted to see my favorite Kung Fu comedy, The Loot (1980) is now available for streaming at Amazon Prime in a Catonese version no less.

Anyway, a quartet of folks are lured by the Spider Bandit to find the title treasure. These are the sly young con Willy (David Chiang), Lady Fey (the awesome Lily Li-Li), Norman Chu's righteous young hero in black and the assassin Mr. Ko (Ko Fei). Chiang and Ko's interactions grow increasingly funny and amazing (some of the best fight choreography I have seen in any old school Kung Fu film), while Chu is a wonderful conscience for Chiang and their team up against Ko and Li-Li in the end fight is firing on all cylinders. The monkey Kung Fu tie in with Tarzan still makes me LOL...

This is just such a fun movie and so much more engaging than any Jackie Chan film.

I want this on Blu ray so bad...But am glad I can stream a better copy than the bootlegs I own.

Hell or High Water was excellent.

The Girl on The Train wasn't bad.

Keeping up with the Jones was boring and unfunny.

Arrival was good but I'm not really on board with that weird twisty ending.

Last night Top Gun. Husband had to ID all the different planes, haven't seen it in ages

Night before was M.A.S.H. We've been rewatching the series, so it was nice to watch the film again. I've been humming the theme all day :)

Saturday was ¡Three Amigos!

Time for a matinee The Earth Dies Screaming (1964) more of a remnant of the 50's SciFi era, more fun with a crowd and a few beers :) Not terrible for the period, just don't expect too much, with better being out there such as The Day the Earth Caught Fire, When Worlds Collide, The Day of The Triffids & Crack in the World etc.

Might stay on the 60's SciFi theme for the evening...

Crack in the World (1965) ambitious for it's time, produced as an "A" grade film, with a solid cast. One of the better disaster films of the period, well worth a watch if you like the genre. An entertaining yarn from the past, looking to the future. One of my favourite SciFi films from the 60's...

Last night was Epoch (2001). Simple, some silly one liners, but I love the concept. I've always liked David Keith. Tomorrow of course the next one, Epoch Evolution. Have seen both of them before. Q6 - we watch a LOT of the same movies :)

So it would seem :) watching Dune (1984) tonight, however not the theatrical a "Fan" edit of close to 3 hours running, a much misunderstood & maligned film. Might have to revisit Epoch.

All while transcoding 24 episodes of Space 1999, Space Above And beyond is also on the list, however Fox's source is pretty poor.

After just finishing Final Fantasy VII and Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII (Zack! :( ), finally I watched this gem and I gotta say wow!

No wonder this is considered one of the best games ever!

Has she ever had a hit movie? If it was not for Interview With A Vampire, I could ask the same thing for Brad Pitt. :)

Even outside of Interview, he's had quite a few hits.

Solid BO performance:

$540M World War Z
$478M Mr. & Mrs. Smith
$450M Ocean's Eleven (sort of ensemble-ish)
$497M Troy

(Mid $300 millions)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Ocean's Twelve
Inglourious Basterds
Ocean's Thirteen

(and so on)

And in terms of acting/performance:

Twelve Monkeys, A River Runs Through It, Money Ball, Inglorious Basterds, Seven, Fight Club

I'll concede these were "hits". Would you call any of these movies, favorites? I won't judge. :) I guess I'm just not a Brad Pitt filmography fan ...and Twelve Monkeys was a Bruce Willis movie. ;) Troy was just on TV and it reminded me of it's suckish nature.
