Watched Wild Target (2010) over the weekend. Quality film, but its IMDB score is higher than what it should be. The saving grace of the film is Bill Nighy's unique acting style which I deeply appreciate and have for years.

That's a good one. There's a dramedy with Redford... with shoes in the title, I think. I knew John Ritter in the early to mid 90s. He was a "local guy" in the sense he's been born in LA County and didn't let his fame get to him. Really nice guy. I love his earlier works, especially Noises Off, which had left me in stitches.

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)- I really hope that the fad of frantic CGI action will fade away after everyone has been throughly numbed by it. Advertised as the highest reviewed Marvel movie. Maybe, but definitely not the best. I’d rate it the worst of the 3 Thor movies. Story is diluted by Thor’s detour to Jeff Goldbloom’s planet. Cate Blanchet had a presence. At least No.2 had Jane in it.
Thor Ragnarok... Well, I liked parts of it and it had a couple of great moments but
let me get my cranky out of the way:
1) As a long time reader
I was annoyed at how the Warriors Three were blown off (so Hogun got the best send off of the three of them, but seriously?) I liked the actors who played them as well as Jamie Alexander's Sif. Speaking of Sif, love how she was replaced by Valkyrie. /s
2) The CGI with Hela in particular looked terrible imo.
3) Some casting was seriously off: Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Anthony Hopkins and even Cate Blanchett just didn't work for me. The biggest faux pas with Valkyrie was how much of a worn out trope her arc was; while her entrance was cute, I immediately knew where her character stood and was not remotely convinced by her after that moment. It's too bad really. For me, there was way too much shorthand in the script, only flashes of moments back to plot points that were kind of important. There was no emotional connection to most characters.
What I liked:
Chris and Mark were great: I could watch those two on a loop.
Yeah that Green Vein was creepy.
Despite not liking these new ladies of Marvel, I was relieved NOT to see Natalie Portman return (though Tessa's chemistry with Chris is almost as bad.) I really enjoyed Thor with Banner/Hulk and a certain Master of the Mystic Arts. The power up and Thor's connection to Heimdall was fun too. Oh and
the use of Zep's Immigrant Song as Thor's battle theme is great fun
Jeff Goldblum felt more like a 2000 A.D. character to me (and I mean that as a compliment.) He got it and was an amusing villain. I think they were kind of playing him up as the same race as
Ego. Since the Grandmaster said he was millions of years old and mentioned evolution of the cannibalistic scavengers of his world in the post credits scene.
Now I kind of want to see a movie with those two. I think Taika would be the perfect choice that idea.
Off to find my copy of Wargames. One of the best movies from the 80s. I'm thinking of another film I remember seeing then, too, but so far Google isn't being very helpful.

No... I'm thinking it was DARYL? All I remember is a kid who steals some fighter jet and flies forever almost getting himself shot down. It was one of those very forgetting 80s science fiction movies.

Watching Mad Max: Thunder Road. Now there is adeneline infused action.
Referencing Thor:Ragnarok, interesting as the movie has little to do with actual Norse Mythology. No worries, this is not a spoiler, they just borrowed some related names and made up their own story.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ragnarök In Norse mythology, Ragnarök is a series of future events, including a great battle, foretold to ultimately result in the death of a number of major figures (including the godsOdin, Thor, Týr, Freyr, Heimdallr, and Loki), the occurrence of various natural disasters, and the subsequent submersion of the world in water. Afterward, the world will resurface anew and fertile, the surviving and returning gods will meet, and the world will be repopulated by two human survivors. Ragnarök is an important event in Norse mythology, and has been the subject of scholarly discourse and theory throughout the history of Germanic studies.
Might have been that actually. I'll have to find a way to watch the movie to confirm. There's a lot of movies I went to see in the theaters in the 80s that I simply don't remember. It's hard to forget the action films because they're such utter **** compared to today's stuff.
I've no clue if War Games is considered a cult flick by now but I sure act like I'm one of the people who tried to make into one by watching it over and over again. I still watch it a couple times a year, at least.

Probably my favourite thing is how it all seems so futuristic to everyone but you look at it now and think a computer that talks? I carry that in my trousers!
In the case of that movie, I loved Chips when it was airing back in the day. I'm on a stupid movie kick. It was that, did Baywatch over the weekend, and watched Snatched yesterday evening. Which, unless I'm mistaken, is an adapted role of Romancing the Stone. Anyway, it's really sad to see Goldy Hahn fall so low. She was a wonder back in her prime.
Anyway, I'm going to watch Gorky Park tonight if I get a chance. That, OTOH, was a good movie. Anything is better than the Christmas themed crap on TV.
Brothers Five (1970) Breezy and quaint Shaw Brothers wuxia about the title five siblings (the Gao Brothers) who come to finally meet each other thanks to the efforts of Miss Yan (Cheng Pei Pei.) The Quintet and Miss Yan have a serious bone to pick with Flying Dragon Villa's Master Long and his Four Evils of Jin Bei. Long murdered deceived and murdered the Gao and Yan patriarchs usurping Flying Dragon villa away from the Gao family.
Yueh Hua and Cheng Pei Pei are, as usual, delightful together, but Lo Lieh completely steals the last third of the movie as the snarky thief Gao Xia, the youngest son of the Gao clan. I wish he was introduced a lot earlier in the movie because he's just fantastic.
The film is a little creaky as some Shaw Brothers wuxia from the mid 60s to early 70s can be, but it's so much fun once Lo Lieh shows up, he makes it worth seeing. The more I watch Lo Lieh in hero roles the more I prefer him as a good guy rather than a villain (he was a great villain actor too; one of SB's best. Just amp that goodness up to 11 when he plays good guys.)
Added bonus: this was one of the last Shaw Brothers movies Sammo Hung co-choreographed and he has a neat cameo as Chu, a doomed member of a security bureau whose leader is one of the Gao clan.
