Er, I don't think :D

It's still really good, Lovecraft-ian fun, if you've seen From Beyond, you'll love it. I mean, look at this ...

How can THAT be bad :D

You're right - it's from the exec producer of The Witch and not the director. :p

Immensly enjoyed The Void yesterday! So much I even watched it all over again immediately after the credits rolled, only this time with the commentary of the directors.
Although it is mostly a very dedicated homage/mash-up (of my favorite horror movies) it still feels super coherent and the practical fx was just awesome.

Whoever recommended it over here gets a gory tentacle-hug4free! :D

Don't Breathe (2016) - 9/10

Damn, this was a good movie ! Can't remember the last time a movie kept me on the edge pretty much throughout.

Based on a suggestion I watched Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol (2011) and although it was watchable, all the technological close calls with seconds to spare, along with what struck me as implausible technological capabilities and escapades, interfered with my ability to suspend disbelief.

I just watched "Downsizing" with Matt Damon and a lot of other well known actors. It was billed (incorrectly) as a comedy on the iTunes Movies section. It wasn't funny, but more satirical. Social commentary. Well done for a complicated storyline. Good story and aside from some sci-fi vs physics conflicts, it was well done.

Lord of the Rings Pt3: The Return of the King- (2003) Magnificent story composition. This movie always makes me emotional. :)
Sad to admit this, but I fast forward through much of the Frodo Gollum arc except for Shelob, Samwise saves Frodo and carries him up the mountain to their fate.
Spoilers/Memorable Plot Points :p
  • Arwen gives up immortality for love and a mortal life.
  • The blade is reforged!
  • Eowyn’s arc- unrequited love for Aragorn leading to the ultimate climax!
  • The Stewart of Minas Tirith who refuses to acknowledge a scruffy ranger as his King.
  • The lighting of the beacons against the Steward’s wishes.
  • Riders of Rohan ride for Gondor.
  • Nazgul fly! Gandalf’s light, fends them off!
4C1F3E5A-FD03-4C84-9FBE-58456ACB6DA2.jpeg
  • The really ugly Orc commander.
  • The Steward tells Faramir, he’d rather have his other son Borimir alive. Faramir rides to apparent death to please his father, accompanied by Pippen’s mournful tune. (This brings a tear to my eye every time.)

  • Aragorn takes the Dimholt Road to call in a debt. Fight for us and regain your honor!
  • The assault on Minus Terith. The Steward yells Run Away! Gandalf knocks him on the noggin and tells the Soldiers of Gondore to fight!
  • Nazgul hold air superiority until some eagles show up (later).
  • Frodo setup by Gollum gets stabbed in the back by Shelob and Samwise kicks her butt.
  • The Steward seeks a fiery end and does his impression of a Roman Candle in a magnificent dive.
  • Riders of Rohan appear on a hill top overlooking the Battle of Pelennor Fields. King Theodin rouses his men to battle! A sword day, a red day and the Sun rises! They cut a huge swath through the orc army.
  • Oliphants! The cinematography of Eowyn and Merry riding between the legs of these monsters slashing their legs is incredible.

  • Gandalf speaks to Pippen of death, the journey does not end here.
  • In one of the greatest fantasy battle scenes, Legolas takes down an Oliphant single handedly, killing 30 men and Gimli retorts that only counts as one!
  • Aragorn devises a feint, a diversion, to help Frodo and Sam in Mordor, get to Mount Doom.
  • Sam saves Frodo from orcs and carries him up the mountain.
  • What are you waiting for? Just let it go! Gollum fulfills his destiny finally retrieving the Ring of Power.

  • Bilbo, Frodo, and Gandalf leave Middle Earth with the Elves.

Avengers '18 is ok. I'd give it a B-.

It's less of a movie with an actual narrative but functions now more as a platform for a series of product placement advertisements for each of it's various autonomous and interrelated brands (galaxy, captain, hulk, spiderman, etc.). The plot is more or less secondary: a necessary evil in order for the characters to have some reason for existing. In this case, it's fighting Thanos. Well, actually, they capitulate to Thanos, in order to fight him. Or something like that.

I almost fell asleep several times during the film. It was way too long.

Rumor has it... Bleh. IMDB puts it at 5.5/10. It wasn't that good. Costner hooking up with Grandma, mom, and daughter was icky for me.

The Circle. Another bleh. IMDB puts it at 5.3/10 and it wasn't, either. Good cast, too bad it was Bill Paxton's second to last performance.

To be fair, MI has pretty been like that from the getgo even on the tv series.

Yes, the car park bit was hilariously whaaaaa, but I thought the story was pretty smart (and I actually could deal with Simon Pegg in this one).

I'm sure there is a personal line involved, but I found MI1 to be very believable, Tom hanging in the room at CIA, the guy holding him, even the train sequence. I think it has to do with how much of this stuff they try to thrust upon the viewer in a single movie.

recently watched "Disobedience 2017" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6108178/
The lesbian trapped in a hetero marriage would have been shocking back in 1999. Otherwise sensitive and well done. Just dont see how people are still trapped in a stereotype when we all have gotten past the flip phone.

That is true... not sure what Cruise feels has to do any more with all those stunts, but still fun and bonkers the way Bond was before Daniel came in.

I have a lot of respect for Cruise because he does most of those stunts himself according to what I've read and he's apparently a very nice person in real life. Apart from his weird religious beliefs, I've never heard nor read a bad thing about him.

Yeah he was the soldier who helped the little girl (or someone) and got sniped as I recall.
Yep, whilst clutching a letter for his mother or girlfriend. I usually watch the movie if I'm going to be alone for the day. Make a big batch of chili con carne, bake some bread and go full blast on all the audio equipment. You go temporarily deaf for a few hours after, but it's worth it.

Rewatched Solo: A Star Wars Story with my dad.

With a second watch, I definitely can say I really enjoyed it, and made me actually like a character I've disliked for 30+ years. I've noticed that from my small sample size (about a dozen or so friends), that it seems to be suffering because the new fans (pretty much anyone under 30) just aren't going to see it. Yeah, the theater has been full both times I've seen it (and when my friend circle had watched it), but it's all 30+ year olds.

4.0/5

I’ll stream this for a second view in several months for a second impression.

No offense, but that sounds like they managed to butcher yet another well defined character from the OT :p

Watched The House of the Devil the other day, and although I did keep my expectations in check it did manage to disappoint as it was quite amazing right up to the grand finale which wasn't that grand at all. In fact I was a bit relieved as I wasn't sure I could sleep all that well but then finally s-hit the fan...

I disagree, it did a lot to make him an interesting character, Han was always such a one note character in the OT and it wasn't until the EU did they build on him. With new canon, we're getting that again, just without all of the conflicting stories.

Plus, Ron Howard made sure to reestablish that Han is the kind of scoundrel to shoot first.

Mission Impossible (1996)- best of the bunch. Why? It’s a mystery, there’s intrigue, the CIA caper is believable, and the train scene is accelerating, it’s not a one note explosion of over the top technology, stunts, or special effects overload. ;)
