I saw After Earth the day I prepped for my colonoscopy. No joke needed.

Anyone anticipating World War Z (June 21 in U.S.)? Yes, there is lots of zombie content out there, but marketing is excellent, and the scenes look great. If the initial reviews are good, I'll probably see this in the theater.

Loved the book. It looks like the movie will be very different from the novel, but still looking forward to it.
Fast and Furious 6. So much fun

I second that. Great popcorn movie. Crowd loved it. I figured there was no way they could top the airplane scene they give away in the commercials as far as over the top, crazy crap goes....I was wrong! If you saw it, you know which part I mean...

Watched Stoker recently, didn't like it much. I love Chan-wook Park's work but this one was a let down.

And, and, was it any good?? You got a responsibility for posting in this thread... ;)

MILD SPOILERS:

It was one of the most boring films I've ever seen. Will Smith lies injured in a crashed space ship while his kid runs through the forrest, looking for a beacon he needs to signal for help. Whoopdeedoo. Kid can't act. Will uses some wacky accent he invented. The end. I went to see it for free after paying for Fast 6 which is everything a summer movie should be. Fun, crazy and unbelievable.

Ah so, HBO/Showtime it will be for me. When I saw the previews, I looked at my wife and said maybe/maybe not... :D Sometimes when you see the previews for an action/adventure movie, you are seeing the best the movie has to offer.

So I gather you weren't MOVED by the film. On the other hand...

Sorry!

Been there...did that. Wishing you the best that the scoping came out totally negative!:D

I saw the trailers for After Earth and thought "meh." Based on the trailers it seemed to me to be a film showcasing Will Smith's son and nothing more. I doubt I will ever take the time to watch this one.

ha! I was certainly moved later in the day... And Thank you! No problems with the test, come back in 7 years....

The Book of Ely- great post-apocalyptic movie about a man on a mission. Great atmosphere and feeling and some kick ass fighting.

No matter how you feel about faith, this is quite the quote:

Carnegie: To his men "Put a crew together, we're going after 'em."

Redridge: For a frack'n book?

Carnegie: IT'S NOT A FRACK'N BOOK! IT'S A WEAPON. A weapon aimed right at the hearts and minds of the weak and the desperate. It will give us control of them. If we want to rule more than one small, f***in' town, we have to have it. People will come from all over, they'll do exactly what I tell 'em if the words are from the book. It's happened before and it'll happen again. All we need is that book.

The Last Stand ... a lot of people keep saying it's cheesy and crappy but I loved it, had pretty much everything I wanted from a movie! £13.99 on iTunes (I'm sure it was £9.99 last week) but had to be done!

I agree, I haven't seen it, but I did see the movie trailers and thought the same thing. It did not grab me at all and so I'm not going to see it

Yeah but that twist at the end. How'd you feel about that?

Has anyone perchance had an opportunity to see the new movie 'Behind The Candelabra'? It has received very good reviews in some of the European papers which I have read.

Moreover, I find it rather interesting that no Hollywood studio was prepared to make it, or be associated with it, so HBO made it instead, which means that it will be broadcast in cinemas in Europe, (and classed as a 'movie' in the usual sense of that term), but classed as made-for-TV and broadcast on TV in the USA.

How could you? It was ridiculous!

If you watch the movie a second time you can see very little hints here and there, but obviously they go unnoticed because, as you say, it's so "ridiculous" that you never even consider it.

It's a neat story and a fun movie. The surprise at the end didn't diminish my enjoyment of the film.

That's good. I feel the same way about some films. I don't care about the little things or wacky twists if I enjoyed it. I enjoyed Fast 6 for some reason and as an adult, I really think I shouldn't have. ;)

I totally understand. I'd like to think I've reached a point where I can appreciate a story regardless of whether I like everything about it. There is value in the creative and entertainment process even if I dislike something about the medium, genre, or specifics entailed.

Generally speaking, if I'm entertained by something then there was merit in my exposure to it.
