No, the iPhone/iPod touch preset is perfect for the iPhone because it encodes them at the native iPhone resolution (480x320). I used iPod Hi-Rez (640x480) so that the films would look better when I watch them on my MacBook, but are still iPhone/iPod compatible, however, this makes larger file sizes.

alright good...didnt wanna have to redo them all.

Should've said this in my previous post in this topic, but I am a windows user, I use Cucusoft DVD CONVERTER/File Converter. Works great, I use it on Vista and XP. Just great! Love aXXo too, he for sure helps with those nice downloads of dvd's ahead of release date!

Thats a might fine list Tom B. Especially Serenity. Firefly - Out of Gas is a permanent feature on my iPhone. Currently also showing This is Spinal Tap and Cyrano de Bergerac (so impressed with how the subtitles display on the screen).

What's the best Windows App to rip from DVD for the iPhone?

I know of several DVD Rippers in general but none have iPhone presets and I'd rather not have to mess with settings trying to get the best quality with least file space.

At the minimum I think I'll do:
Shaun of the Dead
Office Space
Fight Club
Some Family Guy (including Blue Harvest)
Firefly (the entire series)
Sin City
Chronicles of Riddick
The Matrix Trilogy (yes I actually liked the entire Trilogy!)
The Bourne Trilogy

So many to choose from...

plenty of stuff..
two american pies... team america.. ferris bueller... the simpsons movie...
stuff bought from itunes store..

ain't to be the one who duplicates a post.... but I need some additional info

so here goes....

1. i have a dvd and i want to put it on my soon to be iphone 3g, so i need to dl handbrake and thats it? I have never used handbrake, is it very intuitive? or will i then need someone to explain that process to me?

2. i've been noticing on some of your movie lists you have movies that aren't out, i.e. dvd or itunes. (21, which btw was good). So where/how are you getting these? limewire? torrnets?

thanks for the insight

Look two posts above yours at my post about Cucusoft bro! You missed it!! ;)

I was busy thinking of all the names.

Found out Handbrake has a Windows version so I'm giving that a try.
Oh...it appears I need to rip the DVD first (to bypass copy protection for Handbrake)...ok that's not a problem...got plenty of programs to do that.

If your using windows, i used to use DVD43 to bypass the disk copy protection, that might allow handbrake to convert without ripping. Haven't used a PC for a while so i can't be sure, but it used to work with other ripping software for me.

I tried it but it doesn't work on my 64 Bit version of Vista Ultimate.

Using DVD Decrypter to backup the dvd to my drive then I should be able to convert it with Handbrake. I literally had like 5 different programs in my downloads folder to decrypt DVD's.

I think I've asked this before, but it was a while back and I can't be arsed to look for the replies, lol:

Does a Handbrake conversion preserve the DVD's chapters? If so, does the iPhone recognize them, like it was a rented iTunes movie?

Well I don't know for sure but it has a Chapters tab in the interface...so it should preserve them in the file you transfer to your iPhone. Whether or not the iPhone recognizes them, I don't know as I don't have one to test it on.

Just got done ripping the first dvd...giving Handbrake a shot now.

All seasons of 24
All seasons of Seinfeld
All seasons of Six Feet Under
All seasons of Sopranos
All seasons of Arrested Development
A Ton of Movies:
Bourne Trilogy
Matrix Trilogy to name a couple.

Where are u getting some of these seasons? Like Six Feet Under...I want to try and get "Rescue Me" but I am not sure how to go about it...

I'm new to DVD conversions too so I have some questions......

1) I have handbrake, but do i need something to strip the copyright??? I'm on a Mac, FYI.

2) Will doing any converting hurt the DVD?? (make it not playable on the DVD player)

3) Once the conversion is done, haw do i move it into my iTunes library?

Sorry if I sound dumb, but some help would be great. Thanks in advance!!
