The previous, 13-inch high-end MacBook Pro was updated in July 2019, May 2020, and then replaced by the 14-inch model last month.

Why the assumption that the 13" MBP was replaced by the 14" model? It would make sense to keep an updated, M2-powered entry-level 13" MBP in the lineup as the gap between the Air and the 14" MBP is quite big, both price-wise and feature-wise. Either Apple will keep the updated 13" MBP in that space or the Air will have a more high-end configuration available.

Changes that should definelty happen:

More high-efficiency cores for much longer web-browsing battery life for when not doing intense work and battery life is paramount.

Changes I'd love to see that probably won't happen:

1. clips on the power brick for cable management, like MagSafe second gen. Keep the cable separate and detachable but add those clips and the small tidy clip. 2. One USB-A port. 3. Faster HDMI (because why not). 4. Faster SD Card (because why not). Further improved upon keyboard feel to rival Carbon X1 Thinkpad keyboards.

Changes I'd love to see that won't happen:

5. Option to purchase a MBP with no camera and no notch. 6. High water-resistance protection.

Changes I don't care about: Face ID and 5G

People have been talking about sticking a cellular modem in the Mac for well over a decade now. I'm not saying it definitely won't happen, but it just seems redundant when it's so easy to tether via your iPhone.
Except that most plans have tethering data deprioritized, and a lower limit on hotspot data.

I have unlimited priority data on my iPhone and iPad, but tethering my MacBook means using deprioritized data and I only get 40 GB of that. A cellular-native MacBook could be added to my cellular plan for ~$10-20/mo and have unlimited priority data, if it had a cellular modem.

Aren't OLED screens far more susceptible to burn-in? I thought micro-led was the next big "thing".
Yes. I think OLED is just something Apple is investigating as a fallback option to micro LED. Mini LED may not be as perfect as OLED in terms of contrast, thinness, and viewing angle, but for computing needs, it has many other advantages. It is safer to use at brighter setting for prolonged period (no permanent burn in risk), is safer in terms of UV sunlight protection, and is generally brighter than OLED.

One thing missing from MacRumor's 4 top features: Center Stage ultra wide 12MP camera from iPad.

Don’t really care what they do, as long as they remove the notch - it’s horrible, doesn’t work, and I returned my 16” as a result of it, sticking with my 2018 15” for now, while I re-evaluate the situation.

Let’s put it this way, there are more people most probably not going to upgrade because of the notch, than those upgrading because of everything else - If it wasn’t for the notch, I would have kept mine.

I don’t understand why these Mac’s would need a 5G modem? When you can easily use hotspot through your iPhone? What’s the point, it’s just a waste of money and waste of space.
Agree.....not to mention the wireless carriers will probably want to hit you up with an activation fee and, possibly, a monthly fee, depending on your plan.

As much as I really like new MBP, it does look a bit chunky ?. I think sooner or later, former design style (tapered edge) will return, as it does make a difference optically. Maybe it will just be a little thicker on the sides because of HDMI.

1. FaceID
2. HDMI 2.1 (or better)
3. CFExpress slot
4. Cellular
5. Lan port on Power brick
6. OLED (MicroLED for reasonable price is still years away)
7. New mouse
8. 15 (or even 16) inch Air
9. Another USB-C slot on Power brick
10. 144Hz Display

Notchless display.

That thing is disgusting.
And there's the rub. Even for the notch-blind, buying a device that has a notch for Face ID, but doesn't actually have Face ID, seems mental. You just know it's coming in the next iteration.

After seeing the prices of the current one, I'm just hoping Apple transition to silicon from unicorn hair for the storage chips.

Personally, I'm disappointed that no one mentioned the Touch Bar.

I assumed the Fn keys would be coming back, but it would've been nice if there were a model that had both. The Touch Bar strip would easily fit in the aluminum casing space above the Fn keys. I'm not sure what I'm going to do when it's time to replace my 2018 MBP, but I'm not sure it will be another MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar gone.

Everyone keeps talking about FaceID, but how often do you login to your Mac? For me it is like once/twice a day now. For all other cases with Face ID you will have to press some hardware button to ensure you actually want to authenticate (IE an app with in app purchase popping up the purchase screen.) Personally I'd like to have both, and just use FaceID for login, touchID for anything actually needing auth on the system (Or just combine both.)

More than FaceID I want center stage...$300 iPad's have that feature now, and it is the best camera feature Apple has built, maybe ever. For meetings I don't have to sit perfectly in front of the computer, I can move around and have the camera follow. The image quality is also way better than the 1080P we got in this $2000-$6000 computer. The only problem with using an iPad is that they put the camera in the wrong orientation.

I still think the rumors and renders we've seen of a laptop with white bezels and various colors is actually a new product line - I'm calling it "MacBook" - that slots in-between the high-performance, high-cost MacBook Pro and the low cost, thinner/lighter MacBook Air. This new "MacBook" will replace the current 13" MacBook Pro, finally killing off the TouchBar throughout all of Apple's laptops.

Could you at least let us enjoy our new purchases for a month or so before introducing buyers’ remorse over what’s to come?
If it makes you feel any better, I am pretty sure that the MacBook Pro, and the MacBook Air for that matter, Will be a lot more like the iPad Pro, Air, and iMac when it comes to upgrade cycles.
So basically, only an update every 18–24 months.
Just look at the 12.9 inch iPad Pro, not really counting the smaller one since it came out after but:
First generation: November 2015
Second generation: June 2017
Third Generation: November 2018
Fourth Generation: March 2020
Fifth generation: May 2021
And the difference between the third and fourth generation was so minor that you could really make the argument that it barely saw an update between October 2018 and May 2021.
So basically, I don’t expect a new MacBook Pro until at least March-June 2023.

Would like to see a 13" M2 MacBook Pro with the M2 having the DDR PHY Controller from the M1 Pro & M1 Max.

And very specifically, one priced @ $1,299 USD !
I think you’re a lot more likely to see the new M2 MacBook Air take that $1299 slot, and the M1 MBP to die.
And then the basic silver and gray M1 MacBook Air will stick around at that $999 price point, maybe get lowered down to 899 which is what it used to start at back in 2015.
Given that the new MacBook Air is supposed to have not only a new M2 processor, but also color options, a completely redesigned chassis with no more wedge shape thats even thinner and lighter, and a mini LED display with notch, 1080P WebCam, etc, I highly doubt that it’s going to start as low as the current one. And there’s so little difference between the MacBook Air and the 13 inch MacBook Pro that I doubt Apple‘s going to keep that around.
I mean, right now the 13 inch MacBook Pro is literally just a MacBook Air with a Touch Bar, slightly thicker design and a fan. That’s about it, it barely justifies its existence.

5G connectivity is a complete waste of money for a computer. Just use the hotspot on the phone - why on earth would I want a tech that'll be obsolete before the machine is?

Oh wait. SD Card. HDMI 2.0.

Sigh.

Agree - the notch sucks. It's annoying, glaring, and a real PITA. Even worse if you use an external monitor most of the time because you never get used to it.

But, is it a 'no-buy' thing? Nope.
