Agree - the notch sucks. It's annoying, glaring, and a real PITA. Even worse if you use an external monitor most of the time because you never get used to it.

But, is it a 'no-buy' thing? Nope.
I just couldn’t live with it, it’s incredibly annoying in the way it functions, with menu items stretching both sides, and while we all like new things, I can wait as the current machine I have works for what I need, I normally replace every 3 years, this time I’ll wait.

How about adding a usb A port and ethernet?

Death to the dongle!
No, please, no. Old technologies that have had their day. Slay them. Time to move on. Better for a few people to have dongles (or proper cables) than for millions of users to be forced to have ports that they are never going to need because they work in a wireless modern world rather than the late 1990s. These current MBPs are steps in the wrong direction. Chips are fab. Ports are a mess brought about by bad thinking and pressure from users who are just out of date.

Why not bring back DVD drives and floppy disks?

Cellular is one of the few aspects of "how is this still not an option on MacBook Pros" remaining.
Apple has been telling us for yours that they will not implement it in MacBooks I can’t understand why people are talking about it 😅 share internet with your iPhone / iPad or just use your iPad.

Why the assumption that the 13" MBP was replaced by the 14" model? It would make sense to keep an updated, M2-powered entry-level 13" MBP in the lineup as the gap between the Air and the 14" MBP is quite big, both price-wise and feature-wise. Either Apple will keep the updated 13" MBP in that space or the Air will have a more high-end configuration available.
"The previous, 13-inch high-end MacBook Pro was updated in July 2019, May 2020, and then replaced by the 14-inch model last month."

13" had two different tiers - a high end, 4 Thunderbolt port model that was replaced by the 14", and a low end, 2 Thunderbolt port model

Agreed. I saw that and all I could think was, "great, another display that's going to give me headaches all day."

The LCDs that they used in iPhones were great. The LCDs that they still use in MacBooks are excellent. And all I hear is OLED is more expensive. Between the cost, eye strain, and headaches, and the quality of Apple's IPS LCDs; I don't see any benefit to OLED that's worth transitioning from LCD.
OLED no way! I agree with you oled will only cause issues and high prices.

I can already see the macroumers thread; “help I got burnins”
An apple will replay; it’s the tech that are like that no warranty accepted

FaceID, While that would be great, technologically, how do you propose it works? 1) really thin 3D components which don't exist yet, 2) a really fat display, 3) easy to hack 2D like windows Hello? I'd opt for 1, obviously, but I am completely unaware how that would be accomplished. Maybe multiple Face ID cameras, then 2 or 3 notches, LOL.

I use my Apple Watch to unlock - doesn't get better than that. touchID is simple as well

I sure hope Apple engineers figure out how to get FaceID on MBPs and iMacs soon. I certainly won't complain if authentication requires both FaceID and TouchID

FaceID on MacPros and MacMinis will require Apple displays so hopefully new Apple monitors with True Depth modules are in the works. ?

My thought is that it would be best for Apple to release the M2 Base at the same time as the Pro/Max versions. Push the launch of the new MacBook Air until end of May or early June (just before WWDC) and also include updates to the MacBook Pro 14" and 16" with M2 chips.

Launching the M2 which could potentially outperform M1 Max in raw CPU (estimated 25% improvement of performance per core)... meaning that the baseline chip should beat both Single Core and Multicore tests... just wouldn't sit right for the Pro community unless there was an M2 Pro/Max update for them. At least having 7 months with M1 Max being at the top of the mountain would be better.

Personally I feel like they launched the M1 Pro/Max too late in the year. It has already been a full year since the first M1 was announced. They did say it was going to be a 2 year transition, but I have a feeling that all of the major machines will be converted by WWDC next year with a few Intel options still hanging around.

I would not be surprised to see an Intel iMac (current body) update coming at the first of the year... it all depends on when Apple is going to get their hands on the new 12th Gen Alder Lake (OEMs getting them Dec/Jan, right)? No major announcement, just a minor speed bump for those users that require Intel chips for their workflow (Apple did the same thing with additional G5 updates during the transition to Intel a few years ago). Possibly an updated Mac Mini as well. I personally have web development stuff that I would like to have a 12th-gen Intel chip to run VMs on a headless mac mini and I am sure that there are a number of other people in the same boat.

The big question is when is the 27"/30" iMac going to be released with an Mx chip? Are they going to wait until the M2 announcement and release the iMac at the same time as the MacBook Air?

Although the "high End" 13 MBP got overwhelmed by both the 2020 MBP and the 2020 MBA as far as CPU, SSD and graphics speed went. but 4 TB ports versus 2. Not seeing that as high end - it had a good, for intel, chip, but the 13 MBP has better speakers, better mics, and the same display.

High end 13" had two fans vs 1, higher performance (Intel) chips, and better speakers. I also believe it came with a higher wattage brick?

Did the industry fix the high cost, low yield, burn-in and red shift issues yet? I seriously haven't been following it.

Notchless display.

That thing is disgusting.

How about you and I start a counter-offensive to the Zero Bezel Society.

We demand squared-off corners!

We’re OK with a little bitty bit of bezels that hide cameras.

You get the pitchforks, I’ll get the torches.

Wi-Fi 6E.

Showstopper for me that a 2,500 notebook doesn't have the latest Wireless tech in 2021-2022.

Skipping this First Gen Mx new-MBP.

I usually wait for second iterations anyway, but this is a primary reason for me as well. This year I decided to future-proof and picked up a 6E mesh system with much improved reception from the old AC router. Works better with existing devices, but not rocking anything 6E yet. It's a good bet that 2022 is when 6E really takes off.

I suppose I could live on the 2012 non-retina MBP for a little while longer... (right?)

Touch screen. I know Apple keeps telling us it doesn’t work well, but that’s bollocks, just aks the iPad Pro in its Smart Keyboard. Apple just want to keep iPad and Mac separate so they can sell us both.

I don’t understand why anyone would want this with the exception of company owned computers. 99% of Mac users have an iphone with automatic hotspot
A hotspot connection/data is not the same as having a dedicated cellular modem. Tethering is a pain in the a55.

I just want an iPad Pro that when docked/has keyboard and pointing device turns into Mac OS. When it’s missing either of those it’s ios
