Yeah, I don’t really get it either.
I guess it would be nice for password verification and Mac unlock, but outside of that, on the iPad you already have to double click the button to verify any purchases or logins, it would most likely be the same with the Mac.
So if I have to double click the power button anyway, just scan my finger.
Same with fast user switching, it works with touch ID because after you rest your finger on the button, you have to click it to switch users. So with Face ID, would it literally just be whoever sits in front of the computer, it just… switches to their account? Because if so, that would be awful.
Imagine you’re trying to show someone something on your screen, and they look at it and it just… switches accounts.
Again, not saying I’m against the idea, I just don’t think it should be a priority, and I most definitely don’t think it should *replace* touch ID
Wait what? Do u have a link to that quick switch user thing ? I'm very interested

I’d welcome Center Stage, even for current M1 laptops. It’s a SW feature anyway, could be included with an update. But let’s be honest, that will never happen.

Center Stage requires a wide camera sensor. It is not purely a software feature.

True, but an iPhone is not an iPad. A better comparison would be if they introduced the iPhone A10 in SEP, then followed with the iPhone Pro A10X later in JUN. Phone & Pro Phone, Laptop & Pro Laptop, not Phone & Tablet.
OK fine, better Example.
iPad Air was introduced in September 2020 with the A14 chip, while the iPad Pro stuck with an A12Z until May 2021.
A14 had a better single core speed than the A12Z.
Apple always introduces the lower powered version of the brand new chip first before moving it into their professional devices.
Every A- chip was introduced before the A-X version.
Same should be expected with the M series.
M1 was introduced in November 2020, M1pro and M1max in October 2021, and the full desktop versions of the M1 series for the 27 inch iMac, and then even more for the iMac pro will be introduced most likely in the first half of next year.
Then M2 in mid/late 2022, M2pro/max in mid 2023, and so on and so on.
It’s not only just because of the product timeline, but it’s also just because of how manufacturing works.
Start manufacturing the new or updated process with the least complicated, easiest and most in-demand version, then move onto the more complicated, expensive and niche version of the same processor.

Ikr ? I'm wondering why these MBP didn't get at least 4e cores ? Tbh in refraining from getting one because of this lol
In the most recent Upgrade podcast, they interview Apple VPs Tom Boger and Tim Millet from the hardware group who explain that in performance modeling for the MBPs, their focus was on performance , it was worthwhile to shift give up a little on the efficiency in order to gain more maximum performance.

Or it's just money ? So u can't upgrade nor replace it
Apple is not using standard SSDs where the controller is built into the SSD. The controller function is done in the SOC and the SSD is more like a dumb data store. this may be one of the reasons that the SSDs in the MBP are noticeably faster.

If you have several users on the same Mac with touch ID, if they put their finger on the touch ID sensor and click the button it will switch to their account.
Been a feature since 2016.
Awesome thanks.no further procedure or anything, pretty straightforward apparently

So I could just use my other finger for quick switching !!

So they may keep the same thing next year..

I assume at one point in the future a good percentage of us will connect to the net using a "Cell Network" exclusively, forgoing "wifi" completely; Once its widespread, affordable, and fast enough. Perhaps Apple are starting to set the stage.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is already well on its way in some of the tech advanced countries in Asia.

HDMI 2.2 in 2023? Apple better update the HDMI since they went with 2.0 and not the current 2.1!

I was just in an area with 5G UW, and it tested nearly double Gigabit. Insane, even my house is “only” Gigabit, and that’s the fastest they offer. 5G is a game changer for sure.

I’m loving my base 16” Pro. I returned the Max with 64GB and haven’t noticed the difference yet. So for portable Prosumers, the base models are just amazing.

Apple ditching Intel has to be their greatest move since perhaps the G3 color iMacs. If I can get a Bondi Blue 30” M1 Max, I will be in heaven.

5G connectivity is a complete waste of money for a computer. Just use the hotspot on the phone - why on earth would I want a tech that'll be obsolete before the machine is?
Good point. I never thought about that. Had my mid-2012 MacBook Pro (that I still use as my only computer) included cellular connectivity, it would be 3G. But thanks to iPhone tethering, it is possible to get far faster data speeds using the latest 5G technology.

What do you mean by HDMI 2.2? There is no spec for that. Even 2.1 has taken years to come to market with devices only starting to come out in the last year.

Be nice if we can chose our choice of operating systems
Mojave would rule on these plastic M1 macbooks!

Scraping the bottom of the barrel if the big thing people want is... the M2 chip.

Really going to be a long time now before we get a new laptop from Apple as anticipated as the 14/16" M1 Pro/Max was.

Even though the notch doesn't bother me (I used Top Notch at first but decided to just live with it), some kind of behind the screen camera tech could be cool. Other than that, this thing really is pretty much perfect.
Hi, if you are interested in purchasing that, i am pleasure to help you to supply source. I am from shenzhen china.
Would like to see a 13" M2 MacBook Pro with the M2 having the DDR PHY Controller from the M1 Pro & M1 Max.

And very specifically, one priced @ $1,299 USD !
