I think this face from the m360 looks great. The Apple Watch hasn't even scratched the surface of what is possible. I use chrono, simple and digital the most. Would love some more. Don't know why people think there won't be watch faces that look just as nice if not better than apples. Apple is just being lazy.
I will never understand why apple still hasn't released watch faces. It reminds me of the iPhone home screen when locked and how much control they like to have. Apple could make a quick 100mm selling watch faces on the Watch Store for 99 cents up to $2.99 and people will buy a few. I know I would. I could see myself buying 10-20 if they were like your Moto example. I want a Chrono with the circles being used for complications and maybe more complications.

I would easily— and happily— drop some money instantly on some new, decent, 3rd party faces. I'd also love to be able to simply purchase a new face if I feel bored with my current faces one day and want to change things up. Hell at this rate, I'd rather give up 3rd party apps and the Watch App Store for a Watchface Store.

Start look away from the computer/phone/tv/table, go outside enjoy life, and take hundred/thousand of precious life experience photos, put them into Photo Album, you will have tons of different and best watch face you will enjoy every moment of every day, also as people you show off to.

Of course, that will require stop staring at computer/phone/tv/table, and start taking photo. :)

It is a MAJOR disappointment. My friends have a Moto 360 and thousands of realistic watch faces/dials from Intellicom Watchface app and others. why WHY why hasn't Apple been quicker with this for our watches. It is nuts. I have many friends who have switched watches due to this and the lack of face/dial options.

It's probably the number one feature I want from my Apple Watch, the ability to design my own face and thus make the watch truly personalised to me.

I feel this feature is coming but it wont be like it is on Android Wear. I feel that Apple is more likely to make a watch face store similar to how the App Store for the Apple Watch works and they will vet each face for copyright infringement against known watch maker designs.

That sort of store is going to take a lot of time to setup. They will need to get images of thousands of watches, setup a team of people who know and can identify watches by the face designs and they're probably still working on the SDK which developers will use to actually make faces.

I also feel that they focused on applications first because those are more difficult to create and they needed a lot of applications for the watch to be compelling. If they had released both apps and custom watch faces at the same time the store would have been swamped with watch faces and very few apps. This way they're building out the App ecosystem first and then we'll get the watch faces later on.

This is my opinion anyway, I think it's coming and maybe we'll see something with Watch OS 3 at WWDC as it would be the right time to announce it.

Custom watch faces are one thing, and I get the challenges behind that. That doesn't excuse the dearth of faces created by Apple. Why does every analog face have to have the same general design for the hands? Or the minute markers? Hell, even the Hermes custom face has the same hands as everything else. And I shouldn't have to stare at the simple and color faces and wonder what the difference is besides the actual color. As someone pointed out on one of the podcasts I listen to, there are now more colors of sport bands than there are watch faces. What is stopping Apple from putting out just one or two faces with each update? Just that little bit would provide hope for the future.

I think they're probably holding a lot back until Watch OS 3. I get the feeling that they're running out of ideas with the watch with regards to software features. It's a very tiny display, it is very slow, there's not a whole lot it can do. So if they want Watch OS 3 to be substantial they need to withhold features like new watch faces until then to make it seem more compelling.

That's just my thinking on it, I could be totally wrong as I'm basing this on nothing but my opinion.

I seriously doubt Apple will ever establish a 3rd party watch face store, simply for the logistical reasons already mentioned such as copyright and trademark infringement. I think it is far more likely that if they ever do produce more faces it will be handled like wallpaper on the iPhone...a new set added with each Watch OS version. Which doesn't explain why there were none included in 2.0...

Actually, they added the Photo and Photo Album faces in 2.0. But those had been promised in the original reveal over a year before.

If they don't eventually add custom faces Android Wear will win and I'll be the first to throw my Apple Watch in the trash.

I guess I don't understand this absolute need for more faces. Would I like some more options? Sure, variety is the spice of life. Would I throw it away if we don't get them? Nope. If this was such a deal breaker, why would you buy it in the first place? Why isn't AndroidWear winning now if that's the key feature?

Because it is just expected that it will happen. It would be absolutely insane for them to not offer it. All the other watches offer this feature. Pebble Time, Android Wear etc. It's a staple.

There is not a whole lot of other features they can add to this thing without updating the hardware and people will get tired of the same few watch faces Apple has provided, I'm already tired of them.

When I bought my Watch I wanted the features it offered such as the highly integrated iPhone support. Android Wear at the time didn't even offer iPhone support. When it comes time to buy a new watch I may not get an Apple Watch.

The situation with the 2nd generation Android Watches is not only do they let you customise the face to your liking but they also have always on displays that show the face 24.7. The whole point of buying a luxurious watch like a rolex or whatever over a Casio is because you appreciate the design and not just the band and casing but the watch face too.

To me this is like the iPhone before it got an App Store. Apple giving us custom wallpaper background on the Watch is like the bridge they gave us on the iPhone when they said to developers: "Make web-apps and have users pin them to the home screen with Safari bookmarks!" merely a stop gap measure until we get a proper SDK to make proper watch faces.

I stand by my earlier post that in my opinion Apple will hire people to vet watch face submissions just like how they vet Application submissions. And it's really not that different because Apple already rejects apps for copyright infringement, you cannot for example upload a Pokemon application to the store, they will reject it as Pokemon is a Nintendo trademark.

It'll only take them hiring a few good watch aficionados who can recognise a watch by its face design to create such a vetting team and it would take a few seconds per submitted face. And lets not forget Apple will still get a 70/30 split on watch face sales and they aren't just going to leave money on the table.
