Well, I .Mac, so Mail.app its for me.
It's nice to sync your mailboxes between several computers.

Is Thunderbird on the Mac the same as Windows? I've been using Thunderbird on my PC for several years now.

Yes, it is a lot alike. You can also switch your mail from your PC to Mac pretty easily with Thunderbird, it should be a seamless import (which is much better than having to spend ages importing 10k emails). You can also use it as a 'go between' from Thunderbird on Windows to mail on Mac.

Yeah, I've put it down to me having too many emails (and attachments) on an IMAP account. It doesn't bother me too much.

I've replicated this. Now I'm using POP access, and I've set it to hold onto the email for a week before wiping it from the server.

Thanks, I thought I was going crazy...

...er. Crazier.

Yeah, that's not an option for me. It doesn't massively bother me, but it'd be nice to see it fixed. :(

I'm about to make the switch from a PC laptop to a MacBook Pro. Problem is, I've got huge amounts of email in Outlook on the PC (one big pst file) that I want to take with me.

Does anyone have any experience of moving mail from Outlook pst's to Apple Mail?

Thanks in advance... :)

I would try importing the mail into Thunderbird on Windows, then move that to Thunderbird for Mac, then import to Mac OS X mail. It's long and drawn out but that's likely to work.

I tried using Mail.app, but it simply won't work with my university's LDAP server, although just about any other mail client will. So use Thunderbird.

I use Entourage because I can't set up Mail to access my school's exchange server. I'd love to use Mail though. Hopefully, an iGenius at the Apple Store can help me set it up.

There is a cheap app called Outlook2Mac that works well. My husband used it when he switched and was pleased, but he had a simple folder system for mail on his PC. If you have many folders, you may find it cumbersome.

Mail.app, with a buch of addons and tweaks: Act-On & Widescreen. Both which can be found here along with many others. Makes its so much nicer.

I have entourage @ my internship on an old wintel box. I can see the attraction for work users. Presents everything in one screen.

Still, I like my mail.

I use Mail.app too but I have one question, if I use the junk mail filter do I have to leave the junk mail in my inbox and mark them as junk so the junk mail filter system will recognize them in the future? Or is it possible that the system will still recognize and learn if I first move them to my Junk mail folder and then mark them as junk?

Understand the question ? ^^ Even I am not sure if I understood :D

Mail.app

with mailtags and this other one i can't remember which puts a different coloured icon on the mail.app icon in your dock (for use with multiple mailboxes) to indicate which mailbox has how many unread messages..

very handy!! :) so i dont end up reading my wifes crappy emails ;)

I just moved my Outlook 2003 email to Mail.app last night. I did it by following these awesomely easy instructions: http://helpdesk.wisc.edu/page.php?id=3059

It worked great! Although my address book had some triplicate entries, but that wasn't too tough to clean up.

I use Mail and I'm a .mac member.

However I've never been able to check other external POP mail accounts through .mac webmail. I enter all the information correctly, but I always get an error message saying the user name or password I entered was incorrect, even though it's not. Anyone else have this problem?

Simple answer, it doesn't matter where the mail is when you mark it junk as long as you use the junk mail button.

However, I am slightly confused as for me when I mark a message junk it automatically gets moved to the junk mail folder. So moving it to junk then labeling it as such seems like the longer harder way.

Just select the junk mail and click "Junk". Mail will move the junk email to the junk inbox if you have set the filters to Auto. If it is in training, the email will stay in your inbox.
