I don't disagree, but with that logic plastic is even better (even lighter than aluminum and more flexible/sturdier). Why did Apple start making aluminum devices in the first place? /s
If plastic wasn’t a poor thermal conductor, I would actually prefer it to any metal for the reasons you mentioned. But as it is, functionally I think aluminum is the best all around option for phones. Recyclability is another functional factor I care about which aluminum is also great for, but there’s probably also an easily recyclable plastic out there that one could use.

They won’t give any solid reason. They’ll just say it’s great.

The reason they should give, which is actually a very valid reason, is that Apple has been working with aluminium for a very long time, in many different form factors, and they’ve gotten really good with working with aluminium as a material.

If you lean into your strengths, the results are more likely to be good.

I've had my 13PM for almost 4 years, and an 11PM before that ... I'm still alive and well. don't need to wear braces or anything like that on my hands either, nor have I had to see a doctor because of it ...
Disappointingly smarmy response. Many disliked the weight of the stainless steel phones.

What reason do you think they’ll go for?
Under Cook 🧑‍🍳 it’s always about Cost Savings for shareholders. So out with the Titanium and back to affordable Aluminum 😉

I don't like the weight of my 16 Pro - way heavier than it needs to be.

I miss the 14+.

This time, it's the 17 Air for me!
What made me realize it was my wife’s 15 Pro Plus. It feels like half the weight.

Edit: no idea why I typed “Pro” instead of “Plus.” Her Plus is the same size as my 12 Pro Max yet it’s light, like absolutely noticeably so.

No "reasons" to the internet are necessary for Apple to vary the materials it chooses for the frames of its iPhone Pros. All kinds of material science choices that Apple's engineers may choose to make for their own good product design reasons.

They never should have gone with titanium in the first place.
What a silly simplistic statement, acting as if pure metals are used for phone frames. Ti alloy is a great product for the frame of an iPhone Pro; Al alloy also may work well if the engineers like it for this year's phone.

Don't forget that privacy is a fundamental human right, except if you work for Apple, then if you go to China they want to know why
 
"Performance" seems like a nice vague reason to run with.

That and they'll invent a name for it like "spacecraft grade" (instead of boring-old "aircraft grade") and the crowd will go wild.
They’ll add some tiny 0.5% amount of something to the aluminium, titanium wouldn’t surprise me, so it’s an alloy.

”No innovation? Think again, sheep. Alutanium. Only phone on the market with it. Strongest there is. Made in the US. You’re gonna love it.”
 
I will miss the “born in the stars” spot to underline the titanium benefits … and definitely miss the dent- and scratch-free iPhone frame after nearly a year of 16PM usage….
As for "born in the stars", it's still valid:

I don't know how they'll present it, if they'll present it at all. Rather skipping the matter completely, and pointing to other new and fantastic stuff, is my best guess.

Titanium is about ~66% heavier than aluminum by volume.
While that makes sense, this is hardly a new discovery. This was known when Apple switched to Titanium with the 15 Pro, and it was also known when Apple switched to stainless steel with the iPhone X.

I doubt they'll be like "we discovered aluminum is lighter than titanium by volume, great, huh?". I think they'll either talk about how the aluminum in the 17 series is some kind of very special aluminum ("grade 15 ultra pro max aluminum used by NASA") or they won't talk about it at all, simply marketing how light the phone is (17 Air) without mentioning materials at all.
 
They won’t say anything, just like they didn’t say anything when they went from aluminum and plastic to just plastic with the 3G.
Or from Glass and stainless steel with the 4 to Glass and aluminum with the 5, to aluminum and plastic with the 6.
The 3G, 4, 5 and 6 all had a significant portion of time dedicated to discussing the new designs and/or materials… What are you on about?
