I've left and come back to iOS.

The reasons that I would leave it again would be that a competing product would have either a superior design in hardware or software. After using android for a while, there certainly is a number of advantages. The biggest disadvantages for me was the fact I was pretty immeshed in the apple ecosystem. While android offers similar apps/services being ingrained into the apple ecosystem means its not as easy to integrate apple stuff into android.

Music - syncing it was problematic. Yeah there were apps to help, but they didn't handle any of my DRM'd music and for some reason they never brought over all my playlists (I have a number of them and I didn't want to lose them).

Video, since I purchased all my videos from iTunes, I was SOL in viewing them on an android phone - thanks to DRM.

pictures from aperture synced extremely easy with iTunes.

Apps - my kids wanted the same apps that my wife had on her phone.

Bottom line is that the iPhone is meeting a need, if another product meets that need better, I have no issues in jumping ship. With that said, I don't see android or wp7 phones being as fully functioning, streamlined and integrated to provide such an experience that makes using the phone a joy.

Nothing. I am in too deep.

And as for some of your wants for the next model. Just ask some of the people who have a BIG screened 4G Android that can't get through a work day, let alone ALL DAY without a charge. Or the people buying BRAND NEW Android phones that have OS's several versions old which will probably never receive and upgrade to the most recent OS version.

The grass is not always greener on the other side.....

Me, I'll stick with the "same old" iPhone and the remarkable Apple ecosystem.

No untethered jailbreak within a few months of product/iOS release = me gone. I've already started browsing SGSII. The SGSIII will probably be a great device and out in a matter of months as oppose to a year, thus I will seriously consider it. Specs alone aren't a reason for me to jump ship, but iOS stock versus these powerful Android phones is a joke.

What would a native app do differently than the apps already out there that have turn by turn AND voice?

well google maps comes with a bunch of options on android that it doesnt have on IOS. Traffic info , places, widgets and other layers. It also has the navigation intergrated into google maps.

It makes google maps a one stop shop. Search your address tap the screen and navigation loads up showing traffic info on your route. It will even give you multiple routes and traffic info for each one and the ETA for your journey.

Google maps on android also lets you pre-cache map areas so you dont need a data connection while driving & using the nav.

Its super slick, preinstalled and free. Intergrates well with all other options in google maps and works with voice commands. " navigate to <address>" it launches google navigation , sets the route and off you go.

You want a bigger screen and LTE, also you want better battery life.

I wouldn't mind LTE and better battery life, but I don't want a larger phone.

If LTE is going to hurt battery life where I have to charge it throughout the day, I am not interested.

I am on my 3rd version of an iPhone, I have also had a Palm Treo with WinMO 6 and currently have an Android phone for work.

I can't see myself ever leaving iOS, I have a lot invested in apps and I love the ecosystem.

I don't need a phone with better hardware specs than the average fandroid, because I am happy with iOS. It's not the hardware that's important(it doesn't lag), it's the operating system.

Honestly, all I want from the next iphone is a "guest" feature. Just like the macbook. Where if someone wants to use safari, or make a call or something, I can log out of my username, and let them use the guest account. Pretty much that would protect the data in my phone, which is most important.

I dont need a 4 inch screen or a load of features. I think ALL cell phones need a "guest" feature.

The above fan boys are drunk on the Apple kOolAid. But if you are so happy that you do not even look at other phones . . . well you likely voted for our current president.

The reason I leave, on occasion, is iOS is getting boring! It has not basically changed in years. I know the fan boys think why change what is perfect. BUT, I am bored with it. I love Android and my SG2 and am picking up a Focus S today to check on Mango 7.5.

Just too much new hardware coming down the pipe to sit and wait on Apple. Until Apple loosens it GRIP and give us more options, they will continue to lose users who want more choices. ITunes sucks:eek:

Just because you are bored doesn't mean everyone else is. The iPhone works for me and it does everything I need it to. I'm glad you are enjoying your SG2 but don't talk down on people who use the iPhone and like it because it does everything they need it to do.

I had a work Droid X and I disliked it; I didn't enjoy it enough to install many apps, not like I did with the iPhone I had before it. A larger screen and filesystem is not enough to make me endure Android over iOS. I'm sure there are other Android phoness that I would like more than that X, but then again I'm sure the iPhone 5 will be even nicer, faster and have a larger screen than my 4S. So there is nothing compelling in the Android camp.

I consider Android to be a general copy of iOS (this is my personal feeling, not a statement of fact) so there aren't many benefits to that lateral move? Windows Phone is more enticing because it feels like a new and different OS.

Agreed, the reason I use iOS is it just works, and does what I need it to do. I love this talk about getting bored with someone. No wonder the divorce rate is so high, people keep looking at fancy gimmicks rather than what you already have and works.

I've owned 3 smartphones, all Apple. I've had the iPhone, the iPhone 3G, and the iPhone 4.

Even though the phone has had software upgrades, and design upgrades, it still feels like the same phone after 5 generations.

My question is, what would be the reason for you to leave iOS for a different smartphone (i.e., Android)?
And for the reasons above, you'll be back within a month.

As stale as iOS seems, it is so exponentially better than Android you'll feel silly that you wanted to try something different. Android has all of the big things covered that iOS has, but it's the hundreds of small things that make iOS so much better.

Go ahead and try it. You should. Who knows, you might love it. But don't be surprised if you wanna chuck it out the window in a week.

I'm finally completely in, since it took so long for Sprint to get an iPhone, I'm not going to leave!!! That would only happen if there would no longer be an Apple phone for me to use.

• 4G LTE Speeds! (They lagged the 3G speed by waiting a year, and they did the same to 4G! Everyone else has 4G speed phones, and we're here with 3G)
• Longer Battery Life! (The battery just drains way too fast, it would be nice to have at least 12 hours of heavy use, so that way it can at least last an entire day, depending on use.)

these two contradict.

Well... When something comes out that is actually better than iOS. Right now the only advantage of Android phones are the big screens, yay?

Grape or Cherry?

I had to ask myself this multiple times before i jumped in again and continued with the iPhone line.

In order for me to LEAVE iOS id have to have something taken away from it that i love using. They would have to start removing features left and right before i ever considered using anything other than an iPhone.

The only problem with this is that because i love my iPhone i get call a mac fanboy by anyone here at work or home who doesn't use iPhones. Which is obviously far from the truth because i could NOT use a Mac, i'm a PC guy for life. The only apple product i use is an iPhone (and ipods before i had an iphone).

The one thing i wish for that i think would give iOS a nice little refresh is the ability to view your homescreen in landscape. I love that iPads do this and i wish iPhones would. I realize this isn't a true refresh/redesign, but i think even something small like that would make me fall in love with my iPhone again. I think id be using it in landscape all the time too! :p

The apps and overall UX are so much better on the iPhone. Not to mention it has excellent RF, and just works as a phone with great voice quality. The keyboard is actually really good (even though I resisted liking virtual 'boards for years). I'm an ex Android user, and given that AT&T is dominant in my market, I wouldn't switch to anything else. Also, having a single device that does it all is great, and the size of the 3.5" iPhone is perfect- nice and small, but yet still has a nice screen.

Funny part is, I sort of fell into the iPhone 4S after years of DROID envy because I'm on AT&T, and it was the only decent smartphone available.

If I lived in NYC or some other place where AT&T is a disaster, I'd probably be on Android just for Verizon's 4G LTE network.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9B5127c Safari/7534.48.3)

If Apple refunded all of the money I spent with Apps Music and books. Otherwise I would never leave iOS. It's fine the way it is because it works.

never thought i would be saying this but after having had a galaxy S2 for the past week Apple needs a bigger screen otherwise i may seriously consider my options when the S3 comes out.

Once again i never thought i would be saying the above, but if all you have owned is an iPhone, i couldnt stress enough how much you need to try android, it really is great.

To each their own. I have had smaller screens and bigger, and I like the current size. I don't need bigger, but as long as they don't make the phone larger, I won't mind.

I forgot one more thing it MUST have..

• Gorilla Glass!

I'm not sure how many people out there have dropped and cracked their iPhone 4/S, but it's pretty sad that the warranty doesn't cover it, and you'd have to shell out more cash to get it fixed.

Gorilla Glass would be a major improvement to what Apple has to offer.

I'll consider leaving iOS when one of Android's major accomplishments isn't a pitiful 55% adoption of a year old OS revision.

Android 2.3 continues soaring upward, now installed on 55 percent of Google devices

Then beyond that major suckage, there would have to be some SERIOUS feature imbalance to offset current value invested in iTunes and App Store.

I don't see myself leaving iOS for another OS (Android, Windows, etc..) because I have put so much money into iTunes/App Store.

Honestly the ONLY reason I would possibly leave iOS is if iPhone prices went up and when I say UP, I mean from $199 to $299 for a 16GB, Then I'd have to reconsider. Other than that, I don't see myself dumping iOS anytime soon ;)
