I've yet to find something that allows me to do simple image changes really quickly on the Apple platform. Haven't found Widgets or other stuff like that to allow me to make very simple image changes. Oddly, for the Apple is supposed to be stronger for this sort of thing, for simple manipulation of web and camera images I still tend to turn to my Windows PC's which have Paint and a simple (much faster and better in many respects) equivalent to GraphicConverter loaded on them. Everything I've been able to turn up for Apple is relatively slow.
It's really funny as actually nothing I thought the Mac would be great for has turned out that way - but OS X really improved the way I work with documents, not play. However since Apple hardware really translates itself to low-level home use I'm in a quandary right now.
GIMP is absolutely useless, partly for the palarver in launching it and also in using it. Seashore is probably your best bet. Starts up pretty snappily and has simple easy to understand drawing tools.
