What about “smart” quotes? Instead of "inches"

Well, that's what they sort of are used for, like with my previous LaTeX example, it makes a difference between the left and right quote marks.

however, the right quote mark is used for the apostrophe, so...

But yes the right single quote ’ looks a lot better as an apostrophe than '

Who`s using the accent grave as an apostrophe? I don`t think I`ve ever seen anyone doing that. `Tis silly.
