I tried many hard resets before I went ahead and restored the phone... still no dice.

I'm just keeping 3G turned off at the moment since that is the only way I can have a functional phone.

Yeah I'm sure tomorrow the will tell you it's on AT&T's end but I guess it worth a shot.

Ok, my phone has been acting weird lately. It is showing that I have full signal, but I am getting all of these error messages in various programs. I have restored the phone and I am still having this problem. So do you think this is a problem with the phone or a problem with my service? I never had this problem before with my 3G.

Any thoughts?

I had the same thing yesterday when leaving work. I work right on the fringe of 3G and Edge. At one point my phone displayed "No Service" for a few hours until I did a hard reset and service with full bars and 3G came back. AT&T sucks.

Did you take a sim out of another phone an put it in the iPhone? Same kinda hing happened to my wifes 3g we took her sim card out of a lg vu and we got some of those errors.

I feel like a broken record here, but here it goes (for the 10th time).

The diagnostics program that the Genius runs on the iPhone can show them dropped calls and radio disconnects.

They do have an idea of what "normal" is, and if your phone is out of whack it should be pretty obvious to them, and they will replace it.

Insist that the Genius plug the phone in and run the phone diagnostics on the radio and dropped calls and explain the problem you are having.

If the phone gets replaced (which it likely will) and you continue to have these problems then it's your coverage area causing the trouble.

this happened to me when I got my 3GS . Just call ATT they change your IMEI number over the phone. Then it works. So your POS iphone will work.

Well, I just got back from my Genius appointment and they decided to replace my phone. I showed the genius all of the screenshots and he said "that's odd." Then I asked him to tell me what the weather would be like tomorrow.... BAM! error message. :D

They are all out of stock on the black 32GB so they had to order it, unfortunately.

Yep. AT&T sucks here too. I'm having my iPhone replaced, too... with a Verizon BlackBerry Tour.

But...but... then you can't have all those cool radiology programs. ;)

Just kidding, I actually contemplated switching to Verizon and going with the Storm, but I just couldn't get used to the click screen.

I have had NO 3G service in this great city of Denver for the past two days. I have never had a cell service provider do that before.

I have had NO service problems and have had full, working 3G in this great city of Denver for the past 2 days. Maybe an outage in your area? Phone messed up? Call ATT and then go to an Apple store if the cell service isn't the problem.

No Storm for me. Yuck.

Actually, I'm keeping the iPhone 3GS, but getting a BlackBerry Tour to actually make and receive phone calls in a reliable manner. The iPhone will be reduced to "iPod touch S" status.

Just an FYI- I had the same exact issues that you displayed where I was connected to 3G with full bars but the data network didn't work. It happened twice to me on two different days and it was VERY frustrating. However, over the last 3 days I haven't had the problem at all. I'm chalking it up to at&t unless it happens again. BTW, where are you located b/c maybe its just in the area (I'm in NYC)?

I'm in Las Vegas.

Just keep taking screenshots whenever it occurs again. The genius didn't give me any trouble at all and he seemed quite perplexed by the issue. He told me I should call AT&T and have them "Re-provision" my account... whatever that means.

I still think it's a hardware issue so I will gladly wait to go pick up my replacement.

Did you try resetting network settings to see if that helped? I thought it was a good suggestion but havent had the chance to try it yet.

For me, its not a defective phone - its works wonderfully. What doesn't work is AT&T. I'm tired of having to stand by a window to make a call, while Verizon customers are happily walking around, talking on their phones, wherever they please.

More bars in more places? I think what they mean is their engineers spend more time in bars than in other places...

I really do hope Apple is designing an iPhone that is compatible on the Verizon network. AT&T is making Apple look bad with the postponed MMS activation and now with the 3G network problems.

I don't think it'll happen. Not at least until Verizon rolls out their LTE "4G" network, since it'll use the same tech as AT&T and T-Mobile.

But then we'll have the same problem of new tech on an immature network. So it'll be like AT&T's 3G all over again. Or, maybe not if VZW actually pushes hard and fast (and, unfortunately, expensive) with their 4G rollout.

I haven't had any data connection problems yet but I do have more dropped calls now than I EVER have in the 1 year I've had the phone.. I'm sure they will fix this with an update but then what else will that screw up.. I love my iphone but they do have major problems..

And AT&T service is a joke... I have friends and family with an iphone and some on verizon.. The one's on AT&T some have iphone and others don't. Guess what the only ones that are having a problem with dropped calls and other issues have the iphone. The other have blackberries and some other phones that AT&T has and they don't have those issues... The people on verizon have NO ISSUES at all....
