Well - in practice - I take no notice of previous job titles when looking through CV's.
Well I guess both you and grapes911 are the rare ones then.

If HR gets maybe 20 or 30 CV's to consider they might go through each applicants job details, but as those CV's start piling up it's a fight to stay out of the reject bin where each CV might get about a 45 second read... if it ever reaches human eyes that is. There are bound to be some who will look at the title and make a judgment call to send that CV to the reject pile. Therefore it is worth his while to consider an appropriate title that reflects his level and responsibility.
