What size USB drive needed for Lion?

I partitioned an 8gig to 4.3/rest and Lion went on without a problem. Used the second partition for other files.

Back to the point, yes one of the replies in the French thread (did you bother reading?) did say to remove the languages to make the installer fit on a standard, non-hacked 4Gb drive. I came to the same solution independently. And doing so absolutely does work if you have an internet connection. (It does not work if you are behind a proxy, as there's no way to tell the installer about your proxy settings.) I've installed from it. It works. So don't mislead people coming here for solutions by saying it doesn't.

No it came with no media. I guess the rationale is if I have to do a restore it'll have to be done via the Internet. In my case I just want a copy of the install so I can do it from a USB key if I ever have to restore.

So I'm going to try a different method to get my hands on the .dmg file. Hooked up an external USB drive enclosure to the Mini. Rebooted the Mini and held down the Command and R keys. Told recovery to install Lion on the USB enclosure. Once download completes I'll let it auto reboot and old down the Option key to bootnback into OSX on the Mini hard drive. From there I should be able to find the .dmg Lion install file on the USB enclosure. We'll see.

Just saw this app today called Lion DeskMaker that automates the process and says it will work with a 4GB USB key. Have not tried the app myself.

I just tried this app with a 4GB usb key and it failed. Gave some Finder error: connection couldn't be found, or something like that, if I recall correctly.

InstallESD.dmg was sitting right off the root of the USB drive in a folder called "Mac OSX Install Data". I copied it over to another directory on my Mini.

Hey guys, I have a 16 GB USB drive but really would like to sacrifice the least amount of it for Lion... Now, would a 5 GB partition be fine?
