I thought I'd use Parallels once I switched to Mac and I've found I have no need for it.

But Scrivener and Office with OneDrive are must-haves. Definitely would install those.

I will only be installing the apps that I actually use. I will then migrate over photos, music and files separately instead of using time machine, to ensure I only take across what I really need.

The apps I am planning to install are:

Communication
Telegram
Zoom
Skype

Social Media
Twitter
Tweetdeck

Productivity
DropBox
1Password
Evernote
Office
Adobe Acrobat Pro
Chrome
OpenOffice

Music
Spotify

Tools
AppCleaner
Alfred
Snip
VLC

The most advanced thing I do is ripping Blu-rays to MKVs.

But I use a lot of OS X-exclusive writing apps that I have a strong attachment to.

Better buy a rMPP. Ripping Blurays is CPU intensive and the rMP will be as slow as a 2010 MBP, plus it will throttle pretty fast (it's fanless).

I already have a rMBP. I'm going from that to the rMB. And ripping Blu-rays is not something I do daily.

Those kind of things I've always let my computer do overnight anyways (so speed here means nothing to me).

Highland, Final Draft, Scrivener, Byword, Ulysses. OS X is simply the better platform for writers, and thus why some of those apps are OS X-exclusive.

Stupid question, but...are any of those compatible with Word? Guessing not, at least not if you're running track changes or making use of Word styles?

From what I've heard in regards to other Core M machines, you will be able to play Sims 4 with low settings at reasonable frame rates.

Yeah, from what i saw sims 4 low setting can pull impressive frame rates from pretty low end machines. Civ 5 can run on single core atoms (first hand), so it won't be an issue. just play in strategic view mode :p

I'm not sure if you use Endnote or some other reference manager, but if you do, do you find inserting references difficult or do you use some other reference manager that works with any of the programs listed above?
