What Sofware Do You Hope to Install on Your New rMB?

Stupid question, but...are any of those compatible with Word? Guessing not, at least not if you're running track changes or making use of Word styles?

Most of those apps use Markdown, which is basically plain text. So any document in Markdown can easily be opened as a Word file or anything else. I also use a custom font and have heard that the page count gets messed up on Windows with it. The programs I use that aren't OS X-exclusive just don't perform as well on Windows. So while my uses may be simple, a Mac is by far the superior platform for me. I also use some add-on apps to my programs that are exclusive to OS X.

Will the rMB12 fulfill the following :

- word, office, powerpoint (incl. presentations via a beamer)
- webbrowsing
- mail
- 6-sigma software like SPSS (statistical software)
- and most important view video mov files in 1920*1080 with a bit rate of 100 Mb/s without stuttering on the retina display or a beamer (this is something a really need)

XCODE
Logic

i live on logic X, but...don't expect the new mb to be the right mac for it. will be interesting to hear reports, but...LX struggles often on my 2.4 i5 macbook pro, so for me, at least..a 'pro' is definitely my next mac (altho i love the design of this one)...

My colleague plays WoW just fine on a 2010 15" MacBook Pro and the CPU benchmarks are in the same ballpark...

What's with all the critisism based on a spec sheet of a laptop that no-one has any actual hands-on experience of?

With WoW the problem will be the heating.

The only games I have on my rMBP are the old GTA games. Vice City and III. This may be a stupid question, but old games like that should be fine on the rMB right? I remember running them on the 2011 Air, so I would think so.

Node, Photoshop, Xcode

There certainly seem to be a lot of people listing Xcode as an app they plan to use. I'm glad. I do hope there isn't too much of a slowdown (Core M chip throttling) when I want to compile my experimental program and simulate it. I don't use Xcode for my job but it is a hobby (which was the original reason I bought my first 2008 MBA).

As far as games go, I really don't know anything about what's available and what they are like. I'd be most likely to stick with old style arcade games like Pacman (I am a dinosaur). My iPhone does well with those types of games already.

What about :

- 6-sigma software like SPSS (statistical software)
- and most important view video mov files in 1920*1080 with a bit rate of 100 Mb/s without stuttering on the retina display or a beamer (this is something a really need)

Is it possible (read workable) on a RMB12 ???

Since the new 2015 13" MacBook Pro doesn't support Windows 7, it's unlikely the 2015 MacBook will either. Might want to get a copy of Windows 8 before you order one ;)

Actually, I will use Parallels which will allow me to install Windows 7. It's only in BootCamp that you now must use Windows 8.

I'm not sure if you use Endnote or some other reference manager, but if you do, do you find inserting references difficult or do you use some other reference manager that works with any of the programs listed above?

A late reply, but you can copy and paste raw references from Endnote into Scrivener. When you export to Word for final formatting Endnote can update the references and Works Cited. Worked for my thesis with over 100 sources.

Office 365 (I get free through work)
Amazon Music

Maybe Dropbox or similar and another web browser as Safari keeps crashing on me at the moment.

Otherwise the presinstalled / included stuff is perfect

Want to know the same thing. Have to use SPSS for school this upcoming semester. Have you tried it yet?
