Looks ancient is subjective. You’d probably be surprised how many people give it no thought at all. I’ve honestly never even heard anyone use the word “bezels” when describing a phone in real life.

I love my X and wouldn’t trade it for an 8 plus. But I think the two things the iPhone 8 plus has on the X is a bigger usable screen area and it’s more reasonably priced.

Price and screen width. Those are the only two advantages IMO. I miss the width of my 8 Plus but still love the X overall.

We’re talking about looks here. The 8 Plus just came out but the design might as well be from last decade in terms of smartphones. The back looks nice though.

    Flip phones are prehistoric.

Price, battery life, TouchID, no gestures needed to navigate, includes a home button, and has the same internals as the X.

The last decade is still very dramatic. These tiny bezels just started coming out from a major mfg less than a year ago.

The 8 has no equal. It will easily outsell the X in Q1. 8 Plus sales dominate. ;)

Lol 8plus responses here are just hilarious. Look if you want to live in the past with the same design but better specs get the 8plus. If you want the latest and best iPhone to date, X is a no brainer.

The X design is modern but I wish it had a bigger screen.

The responses are hilarious, but only the ones from X owners who are oddly defensive.

Live in the past? Every iPhone from the original to the X has been a glass and metal touchscreen rectangle. Having slimmer bezels is cosmetic, it doesn't mean the X is from the future or something.

If you or anyone else prefers the X, that's fine. I can see why you do. But why enter a thread that was asking for reasons why people prefer the option that clearly you don't?

The gesture / no home button (got used to it almost instantaneously! It is second nature and SO fast), the ‘almost’ usability with 1 hand (can do most of it with single hand while still having a safe grip), the oled screen (simply beautiful), and FaceID (it’s awesome and has worked VERY well), are more than worth the price diff.

Even if the X Plus were out I would still pick the normal X (providing the camere specs were the same).

I defintely think the price point is difficult for some to upgrade to. Really depends if they can appreciate the added features, but after taxes, added accessories, the price point adds up fast.

It doesn’t though does it? That’s just your view because the X is a new design similar to what Android are doing. The Plus looks far too big in my opinion and I’d never own one, but it looks like an iPhone to me and nicely designed like we are used to.

It really does though, doesn't it? The iPhone 6 and the subsequent models based on that design are the worst looking iPhone designs ever, and were dated as soon as they came.l out. Thank goodness that's over.

It’s all subjective. Using the word ‘ancient’ was just stupid as a description.

People are very quick to rubbish now the X is out.

What similar design would that be? Rounded corners? It doesn't look like any Android I can think of. Not even Samsung's oversized slabs.

    That's the problem.

The all screen design is synonymous with most smartphones now. Apart from the notch it looks like others from the front in my view. It’s certainly not a stand out design to me and despite being a pro iPhone user myself, I agree with many of the reviews that stated the S8 was the best looking smartphone of 2017. I still wouldn’t buy it but on looks alone I thought they raised the bar last year. I still like the traditional iPhone look though. I’m not anti bezel or into using exaggerated words to rubbish it’s design.

I got an 8 Plus yesterday after my 6s Plus had the white screen of death.
I was adamant I didn’t want the X due to the ‘Notch’ only based on what I’ve actually only seen online.
Having been to the Apple Store and having a play around with the X I found it quite nice to hold and use, the notch wasn’t as much of an issue as I’d imagined it would and quickly got used to not having the home button.
That being said I just couldn’t justify the cost of the X over the 8 Plus for something that’s pretty much a cosmetic difference. (Couldn’t find a way of trying out Face ID so can’t really comment on that)

It’s not just the notch/extra screen real estate but the rounded corners of the screen that follow the outside edge. It does stand out compared to other devices that simply round the corners for no reason.

The S8 doesn’t impress me at all in terms of actual design. Oversized and clunky to hold. Samsung must’ve sent out a lot of swag last year.

As I said it’s all subjective. We all have different views on ‘better design’, and I thought the X looked nice, but lacked the wow factor for me and I’d expect that with its price tag. If I’d needed a new phone this year I’d likely have bought an 8.

Actually they did nothing impressive with the screen real estate. The screen to body ratio is worse than the S8 despite the notch.

In my opinion the Notch is only there for to give it a unique look like how Samsung has their trademark Edge screen. Both come with their own sets of compromises though.

They all look the same when it’s in your pocket, unless you wear skinny jeans.
