My Altec Lansing FX6021 just arrived today. And just blasted the building. Very happy neighbours I'm sure. Heheheh :p Thanks to all for the great feedback. I'm no audiophile, but these sound pretty good to me; an audio amateur. And sure beat the heck out of the puny weak speakers in the MP, iof you can call them that :D:D

I'm looking for a set of elegant, tall, slim speakers to go on either side of my 30" ACD. Obviously would like decent sound quality to match the aestehtics as I'm aware there are some hideous speakers out there lol.

I have read various other posts. I saw this set in a local mac dealer last friday: http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/speakers/computer_speakers/music_monitor/index.jsp

I know some people bash Bose speakers, but they sounded pretty good. They look ok too, but would like somthing taller and more elegant/slimline

Any suggestions? Also are there any "wireless" speakers? ( without resorting to some dual Airport express setup)

TIA :D

The Bose Speakers are quite good. I don't like their electronics at all. We have had many problems with ours. A good choice would be Bose speakers with a decent amp driving them.

I personally use Harmon Kardan Soundstik II's. I made my own mounts for them. They look cool and sound great for stereo. They could be used for surround sound also if you bought an extra set and hacked it together. Worth the effort in my opinion.

Thanks!... Good insights. I think the Roland's can be had for about $400/pair but they are tough to find as it appears they are EOL.

I want to spend about $500.

If I wanted to go with some active studio monitors without an optical input, what would you recommend for a stand-alone DAC?

I can get some Mackie MR5's or M-Audio BX5a deluxe for about $300. If I could get a nice DAC for $200, that would be a good solution as well.

Hmm, the only affordable 2 channel DAC I can think of is M-Audios Flying Cow, but I think that's been EOL'd, after that my knowledge of DACs lie in the realms of Apogee/Prism gear, which is very very expensive.

For around $200 you could get a cheap and cheerful USB/Firewire audio interface that has balanced outputs, but to use your apple keyboards volume controls they'd have to be class compliant.

I'd maybe check some audio forums for reviews of the Behringers, because If you're just using them as loudspeakers any gripes that Pro audio users have with them my not relate to how you'd use them.

There will be some Hi-Fi DACs, but I don't have any real knowledge of Hi-Fi gear, just the Pro audio gear that I'm a little geeky on.

Sorry I couldn't be of any better help!
