What surprised you most about your 15" rMBP?

At first I thought the design was just a thinner cMBP. Like you would have stretched it on the thickness axis.

I was surprised to see subtle design changes that make it look much sexier than a cMBP, which I originally thought was pretty much impossible to improve.

The curve on the bottom when you look at it from the side is perfect, that new latch lip shape is sexy as hell, so is the logo-less screen bezel that appears to be the same black as the screen when it's turned off, making a uniform shiny black surface.

For some reason when I look at the thin, perfectly shaped front edge with that latch lip, I think of a German luxury car.

How often it crashes. Mail crashed almost every day until recently and I've had the system completely lock up twice. Much much worse stability than experienced with windows 7.

Sounds like you might need to re-install OSX and make sure you don't have a bum piece of third party software. That's not normal.

My justification for the slight scrolling lag (I was considering either a 13" air or 15" retina, and the air's UI felt a bit snappier) was that scrolling is just a means to an end. A large, beautiful, painted-on end

As far as temperature, I dunno...the case is metal. It's simply meant to get hot. I used to own a PowerBook G4 (remember those?) and it did the same thing. The heat is not going to harm your computer. I just make sure I'm not blocking the vents.

The fans are even quieter than my 2008 white MacBook, and hardly ever spin up in comparison. And for a machine nearly 5x more powerful...I consider that a huge improvement.

I've had mine for a few days now and it's performed as expected: amazingly. However, I just sat down and put on Spotify and the speakers in this thing are way better than my last laptop! Makes quite a good little boombox.

Anyone else particularly surprised with any feature?

how creaky and fragile the bottom cover is

the ghosting issue shocked me. otherwise it was a great laptop that i wont purchase due to the ghosting issue of the screen and the low performance of the integrated graphics card.

I have a 13" but I also wanted to marvel in the design!

•The sound quality is stunning (much better than the cMBP)

•The screen of course...Wow

•How silent they run! I'm yet to hear it purr!
