you say it only happens to one of the 30" displays - are they both attached at the same time?

and - if so - does this happen to the display attached to the primary or secondary DVI port?

in other words, of you switch the cables to the displays, does the problem follow?

I've seen some problems (not like this) with Firefox when it has been running for a week or so on my Pro. Restarting it cleaned up the formatting issues. But I agree with the others here that it isn't a hardware issue with the monitor. Otherwise the menu bar wouldn't be displayed correctly.

Either driver problem or video card problem. And since it isn't windows, we can't blame the OS, so it must be the hardware :)

I dunno... I brought it from some German company, selling via Amazon. I'm sure I have the invoice somewhere, gotta look for it. lol

i had a similar problem with my 2006 mac pro, and i was getting kernal panics, and my screen looking like yours. i replaced the video card and haven't had a single problem

So.. You have a 30" ACD there?
Can you replicate the problems I'm having? Or is the card faulty/failing...

I tried. I have both 30 ACDs hooked to the 3870. Switched them to 90 degrees portrait one at a time. No Probs. Only problem i have is the noisy fan at idle

Yep, I have both connected to the same card.. and it's odd, the problems only occurs on one of the two panels. swapping the ports makes the issue move to the other panel. This makes me believe there's and issue with the card, not the software.

doesnt it have to be software? If it was hardware u couldnt take a screen shot of it!

Yes, what you say is correct... hardware issues shouldn't appear on a screen shot. However, I'm curious, If software issues cause the entire system to malfunction and die with a kernel panic every time i attempt the same thing?? Why would it have worked previously without any glitches? Does software, like hardware develop bugs? I doubt that's possible.

Ah, well... That suggest to me it's not software issues (assuming we have the same software installed) but more of a glitch in my hardware?

I dunno... i'm stumped.

I have the same ROM and drivers.
Does your fan come on even when the machine idle. And is it noisy?

i am convinced that it's a hardware problem. and most likely a bad video card. i'm sure you've heard of faulty RAM? well, you have RAM on your video card, and that can go bad. i think this is your problem, and the solution is a new video card.

but that's my opinion.

I've replaced the heat sink and fan for something bigger, a thermalright heat pike with two slim 90mm fans. They're much quieter... the original one just screams at me, whenever the system is on, idle or not.

warranty replacement might be cheaper!
just gotta fine the packaging and stuff...
