Even tech repair iMac do mention this

" Known iMac 24″ (M1 2021) Screen Line Defect: Recently, a flood of user reports has surfaced about horizontal lines permanently appearing on the 24-inch M1 iMac’s display after ~2 years of use. Apple hasn’t officially recalled this, but evidence suggests a hardware design flaw. Technicians discovered that a flex cable in the display carries high voltage (around 50V at full brightness) and tends to overheat and burn out over time, causing short-circuits that produce black horizontal lines. Unfortunately, the only reliable fix for this issue is to replace the entire display assembly, because the cable is bonded to the screen. Apple Support has generally told affected users that an LCD replacement is the solution. However, replacing the screen is costly (often on the order of US $600–$700 for the 24″ iMac), and if the underlying design hasn’t changed, the problem could recur in a couple of years. "

I NEVER use Full brightness. I always set Auto brightness. According from the tech , EVEN you get fix the problem Could Recur in a couple years....

Ok guys if you are in my Shoe how to settle?

My current table is not say big. Beside currently using this M3 iMac for work purpose also , surf net, watch Youtube videos and sometimes live stream for a while. Beside I have another iMac which is intel not M series. This iMac I just use for Radio , also watch movies and stream. Never use for work as it slow. Still on old OSX. I never update to latest because I know will lag for sure. even worst.

This current M3 iMac I just update the latest OSX. I actually kinda regret feel the old OSX better. DO note " the lines suddenly appear Is Not due to latest OSX I have updated " Because is After one month , weeks and just happen this weekend, I wake up the M3 iMac as usual and happen to see " lines appear on the bottom "

I can " Pretend don't see those lines below while using but well sometimes is kinda distracted " Lucky the lines don't appear in the middle or even top or else I hardly can use it by seeing the iMac screen....

I already mention , check alot fellow M series iMac also having this problem NEVER pay to get fix at Apple Store. I check around some go use external Monitor by using what " mirror function " I noob on this as I never know how.

Current situation. I will not get fix even those 3rd party ones they put cost roughly 600++ to get the screen fix. I don't wish to further damage it. I Do used to get an old iMac fix before. Is really troublesome to bring carry the iMac. Next I don't drive own a car. I take cab last time. Used for months later don't know why HDD break down after they fix the PSU issue.

Now I just continue using this M3 iMac for my daily work and watch Youtube , liver stream once for entertainment. I feel the lines might further appear one day on the middle of the screen etc which make me unable to work on the screen anymore unlike now at least I still can see as the Lines appear at the bottom.

Summary not sure in future how i going to deal with the setup. I only think of this

- use my current M3 iMac till the lines further appear on entire screen than I go buy a new iMac ( I still love using Apple just that is kinda disappointed on this M3 iMac , haven't reach 2 years got this lines issues appear which is Apple design flaws cause the hardware burn.

Use it until it becomes an issue that you can no longer accept. It’s a shame that Apple won’t repair an acknowledged defect. If you do get it repaired be sure to hold on to your receipts in case Apple does an official repair program, you might be ble to recoup some/all of that cost. And if you do purchase another iMac get AppleCare with it.

This is what I thinking partly my home workplace the table Only can sit two iMac. Thus I use this current M3 iMac till the screen literally can't see full of lines.... than perhaps i get a new iMac with Apple care.

Honestly speaking for all iMac i used to own I never buy Apple care. Yet managed to use to its fullest over at least 2 years left only iMac which bought in 2015. Is sitting beside my M3 , still working great even fans getting louder , screen got pinkish hub and burn mark ( This issues have been discuss before for intel iMac here ) which is common after using for years. Which a lot feel is well ok as long the pinkish hub and burn mark don't always stay there at least. Is all due to aging and use more than 2 years is ok

But again on these M series iMac , at first M1 users complain, feedback than M2 now M3. I don't feel surprise M4 even M5 users will feedback Suddenly Lines appear after using just one year or so... As long the M series still the Same design...

Side note , Apple care they can sent the Tech come fix your iMac? I doubt end up they will bring back to fix? If you scroll up , I have mention this

I don't know if the hardware test will verify where the fault lies but I guess you can make your decisions based on anecdotal info on the web. 🤷‍♂️

If it's not the GPU another option is an external monitor.

I don't have external Monitor. My table only can fit two iMac. Currently using this M3 iMac " suddenly got lines appear " another beside is an Intel iMac I bought in 2015. This intel iMac well do also have screen issue but at least justify. Here in Mac Forum a lot already mention before , got pinkish hue and burn mark but is Ok at least it will go away after few mins or so. Next already used for over 2 years , 3 years or so . Kinda justify for it but is No on this M series. First feedback of suddenly line issues is from M1 users, than m2 now M3 users. Is obviously M series iMac have a design flaws there. Apple community already have more and more M series posted .

If you want to try a last resort tactic, send a message to Tim Cook's official Apple email (tcook@apple.com). Cook almost never responds directly but Apple, like most large corporations, has an executive response team that monitors his email inbox and manages and escalates customer complaints. Include the information you've found about this being a widely reported defect. Mention your long history as an Apple customer and how this experience has shaken your faith in product quality. A member of the executive response team will most likely respond, and they could well wind up authorizing the repair at no charge.

Sadly my written english is bad. I know now with the help of AI can aid my written english at least " Sound Professional " but I not really good on it. Yea I heard from Tim Cook interview how he spend his day. He do mention when he wake beside go exercise will check email related to Customers feedback etc. He even honestly claim Some sound nasty but he don't mind at least know what happen. FYI MacRumours DO Feedback to Apple regarding Lines problem suddenly appear which way back M1 series. If you don't know. So far till now I can see MacRumours never get any updates from Apple side. As last I check the update still the same Mac Rumours only claim already send feedback to Apple no reply yet....

I mean, MacRumours at least quite establish come review , test All Apple products. Is consider well known Apple side community for all Apple users. They already feedback to Apple , yet No reply? Don't mention us as individuals go email....

Updated - One senior Advisor get back to me claim Need to pay get the screen fix. I don't rant. I just tell her the M series iMac Globally users DO feedback about Lines suddenly appear on their screen upon using one year later or so. This is Not user problem. Is Apple somewhere in their " Design flaws or quality check etc causing it "

I just calmly tell her " Is OK, i just wanna feedback that all " In fact EVEN the screen get fix , after one year usage the line problems will come back....

I just currently suck thumb continue using my M3 iMac for my work. Since currently the lines only appear at the bottom, i just drag the browser up a bit or any apps , software as those lines affect my reading of the texts and numbers...

The local repair shop in my city have announced that they have stocked a couple hundred iMac M1 LCD panels to prepare for upcoming repair orders.

Your " local repair shop " is 3rd party or Official Apple store? This Don't actually solve the problem Unless they using new design come the ribbon attach to the display. I believe you have seem the info , which the Tech mention , despite you replace the screen , this Lines problem will come back upon after using it for one year. Unless Apple redesign etc come that hardware.

Are we talking about a class action suit against Apple to re-design their products to last longer?
Conspiratory theory suggests that this is a planned-obsolete design of Apple.

You claim your local repair shop order lots of screen to standby , it show M series display do have flaws . They know a lot feedback but for Apple no sound heard from them yet. Obviously Apple know but they just keep quiet to admit , why? Simple this negative news will affect their Apple stock price. For what I have seem on financial side, they more focus on iPhone as it bring good news and impact their stock price. like recently iPhone 17.

I've read those post at the Apple community Forums. Yes some users with the M3 is starting to get these lines. I have the M3 bought in December 2023. I'll probably get these lines soon, or maybe not and get lucky for another few years. I'll move on to a Mac MINI if this happens. I won't buy another Apple Hardware unless I have to. Not plunking more money for this company anymore. Kinda locked in the ecosystem though.

All along I like iMac because I no need get another monitor , next the CPU , GPU , Rams all behind the screen. The pro advantage obviously save your table space. Just that this M3 disappointed me in the sense M1 users already feedback but Apple still doing the same continue on their M2 to M3 , I heard M4 users some also encounter, lines suddenly appear. M3 to be honest is quite fast and decent. I always get the Base model never add on any upgrades. I even never buy Apple care because I do take care my iMac. The first iMac I even own upon switch from Window i do buy Apple care but never use it because the iMac is well build.

I don't know is it conspiracy Apple indirect want people buy Apple care. Purposely create flaws but again I doubt so. I don't know. I feel why Apple keep quiet is don't want to affect their Stock price. Now they more focus on iPhone as usual partly iPhone sales is their biggest pie than their Mac computer obviously. Or else why ever year they launch new iPhone. Rumours now is next year they going to Launch ever Fold iPhone. Not sure how true. Beside this year they launch the iPhone Air. That do impress me , i nearly want to upgrade from my base iPhone 15 to iPhone Air but I hold first.

Talk about Mac Mini I also thinking, REALLY worry their display now a days come iMac. Next if get problem is kinda troublesome carry the iMac to Apple store. Whereby Mac Mini, Studio is small just put inside the bag that it. I don't know what my next upgrade , as now I currently still using my latest M3 with lines doing work and entertainment. As long the lines don't cover entire screen...

I've always been partial to the AIO design. See my Avatar with the 20th Anniversary Mac. Which I still have in MINT condition carefully in the original box and sealed up tightly. At work, it was always Monitor CPU and MacBook Pro... now I'm retired and just iMac, but the Mac MINI really doesn't take up that much table space at all. It can sit under the Monitor of your choice. Doesn't have to be Apple Monitors, so many other brands that works great with it.

partly my workplace till have another iMac , which is intel base bought in 2015. Well again I kinda disappointed on M series latest iMac which is Apple flaws. In fact ever since I start using iMac. So far parts that " Naturally go faulty due to years of usage , wear and tear " are the HDD , PSU on my Ever first iMac back in early 2000. Been used like 10++ before finally break down. Side note , Apple TrackPad also do will be faulty. I have 3 track pad, one EPIC is the latest one that white colour suddenly one day faulty. I not sure is it still the same model. As I always choose Track pad instead Apple mouse come purchase iMac. I see the M3 iMac , I opt in for track pad. It look like the same model which I used to have for another iMac suddenly go faulty. Another trackpad also " half faulty " been use on the intel iMac. That silver colour one run on AA batteries. Still can scroll but the left side totally can't , guess the touch sensor on the left side of the trackpad gone.

I think there was only one post about the M3 iMac having the lines. So the issue for the M1 jumping also to the M3 is dubious at best. Still the M1 issue at the Apple community forum has grown quite a bit.
