A little Off piste from Topic but O2 Tunbridge Wells advised me earlier today that they may only get the 8Gb iphones on friday not the 16Gb - Anyone else heard similar. I would guess that most iphone enthusiasts will be going for the 16Gb model ?

Also the register interest option on the O2 Website has changed -

The new iPhone has arrived, and it's exclusive to O2.

We are now no longer allowing customers to pre-register their interest for iPhone 3G. iPhone 3G will go on general sale on 11 July 2008 in all our stores.

They took it offline a number of days ago now, apparently due to a HUGE influx of interest.
I think I read 200.000 people 'registered their interest' with O2.

Lakeside Shopping Centre, Essex. I went in there today and spoke to the manager. Was told that they will be opening at 8:00 (and that it had been 7, but this had changed to 8). Interestingly was also told categorically that the only people they will be dealing with in-store will be those without iPhones.

Anyone currently with an iPhone on o2 will have to sign up online and the phone will be delivered. I said that it wasn't particularly helpful for me that way, and was told its that way or not at all. Staff will not be dealing with any current iPhone customers in store.

Registration

Carphone Warehouse appears to still be allowing registration of interest, not that you'll get any information out of them than you probably know already.

I've spoken to O2 Select Customer services that although the phones will be opening early they might not even sell them until the evening! What a f***ing nightmare.

Why?! Why would that make any sense? So what are they gonna do all day?! I'm sure that isn't right.

I'm with you on that one. It just sounds like another O2 staff member without a clue, so they just make something up. It is a bit of a joke really. If the stores open early, which some clearly are, it will be to sell the iPhone 3G early.

I just called my local o2 shop in Livingston and surprise surprise they do not know much. They think they are opening at 8am. They do not know what stock they are getting in...very helpful!

I agree. Very annoying though.

Do O2 really expect that high demand for these things?

In my area I have only ever seen one other person out and about with an iPhone.

I agree, everyone wanted the iPhone last year.

Now, with the new subsidized handset pricing worldwide,
I guess pretty much everyone can afford an iPhone this year.

It's still not that cheap though. £639 minimum over 18 months is a LOT more than many of my friends pay. They usually stretch to maybe £100 for the handset on Pay and Go and after that won't spend close to £30 per month.

It's a desirable phone, and sometimes you have to pay extra for build quality and feature-sets. The iPhone is an example of this.

Ok the monthly line rental is high, for the majority, but Apple are not selling the phone on line rental,
they are selling the phone itself, which at £99 for 8GB and £159 for 16GB is pretty darn cheap in my book.

£30/month with truly unlimited data on the iPhone, is pretty damn great.
If people don't want to pay it, then that is up to them at the end of the day.
