When do we have to activate this by? I’m thinking of delaying it to January before activating.
Don't wait if you bought the watch in September, I didn't see the 3-months free and contacted support, I bought the S6 on launch day and they said I had only until this Friday to activate it. (3 months from purchase)

Ok that’s good to know. I got my S6 at launch so will probably need to also do it very soon.

I’m curious what this will mean if I sign up for the free trial, even though I already have AppleOne Premium?
I received an email about the three-month trial, but don’t want to sign up if it’ll break apart my other services.

Great thread. Unfortunately I called Apple support, thinking that would be simpler than resetting my watch. What a mistake. Lots of simple questions (version numbers, serial numbers, my Apple ID/phone/email even though I'd typed that in to the support dialogue box before being connected) that took 25 minutes, then transferred to someone else because this was "complicated" (the first support person had not heard of the problem), and I waited a few minutes for that person. I finally gave up, feeling it'll be faster to just unpair reset the watch. What a pain. Not a good performance for Apple today.

American First Apple only hired English-speaking instructors… so 'foreign' countries with other main languages have to wait. China will be next I guess.
Just because I don’t live in a mostly English speaking country doesn’t mean I can’t speak English...

Not very fair to limit you to three months since they just released Fitness+ yesterday.

I think you might be able to push it if you miss the 3 month window, but it'll be a bigger hassle I think, since it seems the terms outline it as that: https://www.apple.com/promo/pdf/EN_US_Fitness_Plus_Promo_TandCs.pdf

"Redeem your 3 months free in the Fitness app as soon as Apple Fitness+ launches.

Offer must be claimed in the Fitness app within 3 months after first setting up your eligible device."

These steps work, had to do it this morning to get the 3 month trial. A pity Apple could not get this to work for all eligible people, without having to unpair and pair again.
It’s a lot to ask of Apple...they are only a trillion dollar company, not multi-trillion dollar company....

I just emailed Apple support. Got a reply asking for proof of purchase and woke up to a voucher code for 4 months in my email :)

Isn't this another example of the problem of having two Apple IDs - one for devices, and one for app store purchases? It has driven me crazy. I bought a new MacBook Pro and logged into in on my Apple ID I use for devices, but then the free one year trial of Apple TV+ is now associated with my device Apple ID, not the one i use in the iTunes store etc for purchasing media. This situation was created by the way that Apple set up the iTunes store a long time ago; by design, a lot of us have two different Apple IDs - it's acknowledged in the way that the interfaces for these devices allow you to include another Apple ID for "purchases" of content. I want to merge these and just have one account, but this isn't possible.

Now i have to log out of one Apple ID and log into another to see Apple TV+ on my Apple TV. This looks like the same issue again with Apple Watches. It's a stupid situation!
Wait what? Why do you need to Apple IDs?

I've been a Mac user since 2006 but I don't remember needing two separate IDs. Am I forgetting something?

Before Apple Fitness+ launched on Monday, Apple advertised a promotion that allowed all customers who purchased an Apple Watch Series 6, SE, or Series 3 a free three-month free trial of Fitness+. However, while that free three-month trial is meant to activate automatically and be available when first signing up for Fitness+, many people that should be eligible for the 3-month trial are instead being offered a standard 1-month trial.

Several users have contacted Apple Support about the problem, but there's a way to resolve the issue manually that's likely to be faster for many people than waiting to hear back.

The steps below take you through the process of unpairing your Apple Watch from your iPhone and then re-pairing it, after which you should see your three-month trial in the Fitness app. It should take about 15 minutes in all, although bear in mind that if you use Apple Pay on your Apple Watch then you'll need to set it up again afterwards, which is easier to do with some card issuers than others. It's also worth noting that this method only works if you haven't already accepted the one-month trial.

How to Get Your Apple Watch Fitness+ 3-Month Trial

  1. Make sure your iPhone and Apple Watch are updated to iOS 14.3 and watchOS 7.2, respectively.
  2. Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
  3. Tap the My Watch tab in the bottom-left corner of the screen, then select All Watches in the top-left corner.
  4. Under My Watches, tap the Info button (the encircled "i" icon) next to the watch that you want to unpair.

Tap Unpair Apple Watch, then tap again to confirm. (For GPS + Cellular models, choose to keep your cellular plan.)
  5. Enter your Apple ID password to confirm once again.
  6. Once your watch is unpaired, the Watch app will invite you to Start Pairing an Apple Watch.

When prompted, position your iPhone so that your Apple Watch appears in the viewfinder in the Apple Watch app.
  7. Tap Set Up Apple Watch, then follow the instructions on your iPhone and Apple Watch to finish setup, and remember to choose your most recent Apple Watch iCloud backup to restore when prompted.

Now that you've re-paired your Apple Watch to your iPhone, enter the Fitness app, tap the Fitness+ tab, and you should see an option to "Start 3 Months Free."

HEY STAFF!

IF you didn't already know ... UNPAIRING an Apple Watch deletes the Health Data acquired by that Apple Watch in the Fitness/Health App.

So PLEASE ensure this has changed before telling your readers to simply remove a Watch from Paired list without considering what this will do!!

Contacted apple directly after not being offer 3 months with my series 6 watch - they gave me a voucher for 4 months free use - its worth contacting them rather than pairing again.
Wish I had seen this first. Unpairing worked for me. Dealing with support these days seems to be a bit of a crapshoot. But I'm happy to be able to use Fitness+

The relevant question here and am surprised no one has asked it is will it be fixed pro actively so we can just try again in a week and get our free three months?

Re-pairing worked. Be sure to upload latest patch and backup before erasing apple watch from your iPhone.

Apple thinks my people in my country doesn't understand or speak english :| And its not because of laws preventing only english language apps, because if it was the case iphone would not be sold in my country.

Or just contact apple support chat and they will fix..took me 15 mins tops
Lucky you! I've been on the call for 30 minutes now. Even had to upload my invoice to them, not sure why they can't look up my order in their system.

Just got a supervisor put on... and they are telling me to repair the watch!

Another 26 minutes with the supervisor a re-pairing of the watch and the Fitness+ tab actually disappeared from the app. Three gift cards later (two wrong countries before landing on the Canada store) and I now have a 4 month trial. Phew!
