The big surprise: the AirPods Pro 2 will use ultra wideband connectivity to stream Lossless Audio from U1-equipped iPhone 11 and newer models. UWB has far less of the bandwidth limitations of Bluetooth (even Bluetooth LE!).

What is special about these vs. every other 3rd party foam tip, like Comply foam?
The quality is much better... You can tell by all of the reviews..... They are very well made and last a really long time before you need to replace them... They snap in to the airpods really well similar to the stock tips..... similar to you I went through a bunch of different brands including comply and these have been by far the best ones in my experience.

Thanks, I will try them. What about charging? The other big problem with foam tips is they swell from heat and then don't charge when put back in the case.

Isn’t UWB also very short range? Like; will it have enough range to enable fast/reliable real time data from the phone in my pocket to the AirPods in the side of my head?

Using HomeKey with the ultrawideband chip in my iPhone and Apple Watch, I can’t even unlock my front door without it being so close that I’m practically pressing my phone or watch right up against the lock. I’m guessing the amount of data necessary to authenticate and activate a lock/key is a lot less than constantly streaming audio.

I would love that, it would make so much sense. Also support Bluetooth of course just so Apple can potentially address the whole market beyond just U1-equipped iPhones but for those of us Apple users who do want wireless lossless it would be a huge incentive to stay within the Apple ecosystem. I am continually perplexed by how Apple strives to be best in class when it comes to phone cameras/photography yet hasn't so far seemed to be at all interested in pushing the envelope on audio quality. Maybe that will change and if that change came tomorrow then .... exciting!

"Connect many pairs of AirPods to an iPhone at once" Now this would be pretty cool when traveling with my wife listening to music together or sharing a game app on the plane. A setting that allowed noise cancellation to be enabled, but also the spatial mic allowing a conversation between the users would be great. Maybe doable?

No lossless support is upsetting, what’s the point of having lossless on iPhones when we can’t hear it
The feeling of lossless in our pockets.
Better durability is the primary objective here. I've gone through three pairs in the three years I've owned them. Credit to Apple, they replaced them every time, but it must be costing them a fortune to do that.
Tim thanks you for the empathy!

Full "Find My" functionality is a welcomed addition if it holds true.

I just wish we could get revamped "OG" style Airpods (without the Airpods 3 design changes) with that function and the new features as I don't like the in-ear or ANC features when using for phone calls (even with ANC turned off, the gen 1 Pros sound weird to me when on a call as my voice sounds different with the in-ear fit) but haven't had a chance to try the Airpods 3 yet to see if they accomplish that...

I would just like for any updates to minimize the need for cleaning the mesh grills with Blutak all the time. The ANR frequently stops working and sound quality goes to hell, including repeated failures of the fit test. Then I spend a few minutes with the putty and everything is good again.

They could change nothing except the cleaning issues and I'd buy. I've been to way too many loud shows in my life for lossless to mean anything to me. My ears are lossy.

- What about the tips? Are we going to be stuck with the same silicon tips with their weak structure? Many people, myself included, can't even use the included tips because they will just slide or squeeze right out. We're dependent on crappy third party foam tips to have something that will stay put. I'm getting tired of foam tips that disintegrate every couple of weeks and leave bits of foam in your ear canal.

Until the BFP came along this was the only way I could listen to my APP.

And, the forever elephant in the room... fit.

I've never, ever been able to wear any of Apple's in-ear pods, and I'll admittedly chalk that up to odd ear canals, I suppose. They never fit properly, and fall out almost immediately.

Years ago I purchased a pair of the silicone deep in-ear retrofits from Etymotic for a different brand of in-ear buds, and man did they work well! I'd love to see something offered in the way of those for the Airpods.

FindMy and extended battery life in buds are most compelling. Apple will have stepped in it if they havent incorporated these features.

I’ve been waiting on Pro 2s to upgrade my 1st gen AirPods, so I’m glad to hear this news.
I lost my gen 2's a couple months a go been waiting for these to replace them. Having lossless would have made these a no brainer. Definitely will be keep an eye out if these are indeed announced.

Amen - I finally tried the Pros recently because my girlfriend got a pair for her birthday.

Neither of us can get them to stay in our ears for any meaningful length of time with any of the tips even if we are just sitting still and not doing anyting. If you start talking or eating/drinking they start slipping and falling out almost immediately.

Yep, so what you need are either A) foam tips, or B) strong TPU tips.

Any of these will solve the exact problem you describe. They have their own tradeoffs, but they will at least stay in your ears.

I wonder if they will have the ability to take your temperature, that would be an advance workout feature.

I've never had that issue, and this summer I spent 2 months in hot florida heat using them every day.

I am cautiously optimistic, I would like lossless-capable AirPods but unless Apple has their own secret wireless protocol we don’t know about yet, Bluetooth tech just isn’t capable enough. If they manage to go lossless at 16/44.1 minimum I will finally become an AirPods owner, if not… no sweat off my back.

They have strongly hinted that they do have something in mind for that, probably using the U1.

Their courage to take away the headphone jack and then add lossless right around the time the headphone jack had been well and truly purged seems like a case of left hand not knowing what right is doing.

Of course both are money grabs but they were out of order money grabs.

So basically no reason to update my AirPods Pro Gen 1. I’m not complaining. Other than could use some better battery life, the AirPods Pro are still amazing.

Would like to see it in some new colours. Bluetooth LE will be very welcome and so will be the longer batter life.

The upgrade I'd be excited for is if they stop failing every 6 months. Currently on my 4th pair - to be fair, Apple has replaced them each time free of charge, but it's just a matter of time until they fail again.

A cheap vibrating toothbrush works well (also good for cleaning the mic on iPhones)
