Agreed. I'm just curious if it makes a lot of sense to keep upgrading iPad performance when there is very few software or use-cases to make use it. When would be 'peak iPad'? Maybe we already have it for the next 2 years, so adding an M2 wouldn't make much sense?
I do not think is worth upgrade until an app is too slow or the battery is worn out. Mine is from 2017 and it still works great. I will relegate it to kitchen and Hue iPad if something takes my fancy. SoC and RAM is more than enough right now but a 14+inch would be tempting.

I'm probably in the market for an M2 MBP late this year or early next, but I'm a little concerned / disappointed that the MBP refresh won't add WiFi 6E, given it was also not added to the latest iPhones.

It's true that I don't "need" it right now (nor do I even have a WiFi 6E access point yet), but I keep my MBPs for a long time and it would be nice to have one day. It seems like 6E is standard on Android flagship phones and becoming standard on higher-end Windows business laptops that launched this year.

My point was that there is some evidence (apparently) that there's an "XDR" 27" display in the works-- and that I don't see Apple slapping that into an iMac that's not a premium "Pro" machine (with a corresponding Pro price tag). Otherwise, I agree-- the iMac Pro was born out of the original intent to discontinue the Mac Pro which they then later changed course on; once they re-committed to the Mac Pro, the iMac Pro became less necessary. (Some might still like it, but yeah.)

$1999 27" iMac, with old 5K Panel, no miniLED
$1999 27" miniLED Studio display

would be the best way to handle it in my opinion.
Also in my opinion, they've handled terribly their desktop lineup.
It's just as bad as their laptop lineup is good.
I'd be interested to see how the 24" iMac is selling right now, it looks like terrible value to me.

When are we getting Season 3 of Ted Lasso?

If they are going to talk about Apple TV, maybe they might start the hype for this series which I guess is entering it's final season.

After mulling it over and deciding the M1 chip is already overkill for me, I decided to just go ahead and pick up a refurb 2021 iPad Pro. I‘m getting all the features I actually want (ProMotion, more ram, better speakers) with little to no price difference from the new Air, and I think I can get $195 for trading in the iPad I got now. Pretty happy with that upgrade :)
Same boat. I actually just bought a refurb M1 iPad Pro 12.9". I have an 11" iPad Pro that is a few years old. I'm still deciding whether to keep the M1 or wait for the M2, but the rumored features for the M2 don't excite me at all. I have an M1 Max MacBook Pro that has all the power I need for photography/video production/editing. I mostly use the 12.9" iPad Pro for sketching/drawing/mind maps, reading, browsing, other creative apps.

I have a 27" iMac that I bought brand new in late 2013. I am dying to upgrade... My hard drive is practically out of space. I've been holding out for the new bigger screen iMac since I don't want to go down in size, but I'm not sure how much longer I can wait. I hope they put out M2 chips for iMacs soon at least.

I just finished setting up my refurb Pro, actually. It’s awesome. Still 6 months of Apple warranty left on it, and it came with an Allstate warranty - I picked a good one! Not regretting this choice.

I bought the 2021 12.9" last year when they were first released... I had a 2018 at the time that I sold to upgrade. That was a little bit of me getting carried away by the M1 hype, but I don't have any regrets. Definitely my favorite Apple device.

Agree that the desktop lineup has been handled terribly. There aren't enough options and you basically have the option of an M1 or M1 Max, no in between. Hope you are right about a 27" iMac 5k with no miniLED, would help fill the gap.

Disagree that the 24" iMac is bad value though. The 24" inch starts at $1299 and comes with a 4.5k resolution which is actually phenomenal for that size of screen, same pixel density as the 5k at 27". The M1 is also a killer chip that is more than enough for most people. My wife has one that she uses for work and it's been a great machine. There are just no options for those of us who want a desktop with more processing power, graphics power, and RAM... unless we pay through the nose for a Mac Studio.

I would honestly be tempted by the 24" iMac if I could get it with an M2 Pro (or M1 Pro, M3 Pro, whatever) and 32gb of RAM. Even an M2 with 24gb I'd be tempted by. I'm currently using a 21.5" 4K LG Ultrafine with my 16" MBP at work (along with a 4k 27" Dell display that I can't stand due to pixel density mismatch with my other displays). A 24" 4.5k would be a step up for me :p

I think this October event isn’t going to be all that great, I hope I’m wrong…

New iPad Pros, iOS16 release, M2 Mac Mini. M2 Pro Mac Mini, Intel MM gone. M2 Pro MBP. M2 Max MBP and finally a M2 iMac 24”.

That’ll be it… Oh maybe an Apple TV update too…

I don’t think we’ll get M2 Ultra and M2 Extreme until Spring 2023, when we’ll see the updated Mac Studio and new Mac Pro released..

There’s just no way Apple will release the new M2 Pro, M2 Max, M2 Ultra and M2 Extreme ALL on the same day - they just don’t do that… and if they did then they would have to update the Mac Studio and it’s only 8 months old… that’s not going to happen either…

Hope I’m wrong as I really want to buy a silicon Mac Pro, but reckon I might have to wait until 2023…

Yeah... I kinda get the vibe that we won't see the Mac Pro this year either. I'm not in the market for one, but that's the one I'm most interested in seeing how they execute. (And I tend to agree that we're more likely to see a Mac Studio update around the time the Mac Pro gets updated.)

Maybe they'll surprise us. I think I'm just trying to set my expectations low.

Because they know some developers in particular want an X86 box, and it's not a large extra cost for them as it's the same chassis. I think they also didn't want to use supply-constrained M1 Pro/Max chips on the Mini last year.

The Mac mini has rarely been a priority. It'll likely get M2 next month and then be untouched for a while.
This position seems the most likely, in my opinion.

I don't think we'll be able to buy an AS Mac Pro this year, but I think there has to be at least an announcement made by November so that Apple can meet their 'Two-year transition to Apple Silicon' commitment. That's also why I'm pretty sure that there will be an M2 Pro Mini announced at the October event so that the final non-Pro intel machine can be sunsetted.

Why do people keep saying that an M2 Pro/Max mini will be such a surprise? There is a space in the mini lineup for a machine that replaces the remaining Intel mac mini and also at a price point that fits between the Mac Mini and the Studio. The base Mac Mini in Australia is $1099 and the Mac studio starts at $3099... Hmm... I wonder what could fit into the lineup at ~$AU2K? 🤔

I would be more shocked if it DIDN'T happen.

I’m just tempering my expectations so I’m not crushed if it doesn’t happen :)

I'd upgrade from my M1 mini to an M2 Pro mini. I have been thinking about an M1 Studio. I run four monitors (3x4k, 1x2k) off the mini and it would be nice to get better display scaling than the HDMI and DisplayLink ports provide.

Yeah I wondered if that might be the case... Like a 'one more thing' moment at the end and we get a preview of the Silicon Mac Pro... If that happens then surely it'll have to be a completely new form and design, otherwise what's the point... something different, like when they previewed the Trashcan Mac Pro and we didn't see that for another year was it... I hope that's not the case...

However all that said, waiting until Spring might not be a bad thing, seeing a M2Ultra Mac Studio up against a M2Extreme Mac Pro might be an interesting problem to have when coming down to choosing which to go with... both need to be viable for 3-5 years at that kind of price point... so I might have an interesting choice on my hands...

It's possible that they could just announce either of the two and ship them in 2023. The Mac Pro in the summer or even fall. If they do an M2 Pro mini, I'll get one. Otherwise I'll likely get an M1 Studio (which is overkill for me).

I’m curious... Are there any real consequences if Apple does not, in some form, meet that “two-year transition” commitment? I guess it just seems like, with all the additional factors at play these days, it wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t quite make that timeline.

Also, how far in advance might they feasibly announce something ahead of production? Say the Mac event is late October. I guess it could be several months— they announced the 2019 Mac Pro at WWDC, no?

As long as they at least mention the Mac Pro soon, as in October, I suspect in general overall, people will likely be fine with it.

A true launch this fall would be ideal.
A proper pre-announcement would be OK too.
Just a small mention would not be ideal of course, but would be enough to keep people off their backs for a few months.

It seems clear they don't sell many units of the Intel Mac Pro now. Used pricing on complete high end Mac Pro systems have fallen into the toilet last I checked. (This was also evidenced by MKBHD's inability to sell his used high end Intel Mac Pro locally before giving up and just taking the abysmal trade-in value from Apple. He didn't want to part it out.) However, it's not that Apple has Osborned themselves with everyone waiting for the new Mac Pro. A lot of people have bought the Mac Studio instead. It appears the new Apple Silicon crowd is going to be an even smaller niche going forward, even though it was already a small niche to begin with.
