Apple's mini-LED displays are expected to use approximately 10,000 LEDs, with each one below 200 microns in size. Mini-LED technology will allow for thinner and lighter product designs that also offer impressive wide color gamut performance, high contrast and HDR, and local dimming, which dims the backlight behind black areas of the screen while keeping bright parts lit for blacker blacks and improved contrast.
There's a mistake here. "Mini-LED" displays are definitely not going to use "local dimming" that "dims the backlight," because "mini-LED" (I usually see these displays called "micro-LED") displays don't have backlights. Just like OLED displays.

LCD's have a white backlight, and then selectively filter that light to get RGB. Micro-LED's just have... microscopic LED's. Direct red, green, and blue lights. There's no backlight to dim. All "blacks" are true blacks, like on OLED's, because you aren't trying to completely block out a backlight, you're just not emitting any light from your LED's. So it's "perfect" blacks.

Would like to see Apple prioritize the following two, & get them out ASAP:

1.) Next-Gen Apple TV (with an A14, & with 8 GB of DRAM).

2.) iPhone SE Plus (does NOT even need 5G to be a BIG success, in fact, would prefer it doesn't include it, so that it's more power efficient).

I'd bet on a higher end (M1 with more cores and RAM) Mac Mini sometime before next summer. 😉

I love you guys. However, before the very few unoriginal, limited vocabulary members chime in, there are no 'haters' on this forum. Since 2006 I have come to recognize there are only two types of members: passionate and others that are more passionate. I enjoyed reading this extensive article regarding products for 2021.

The most significant part of this article is that Apple 'may' improve iOS, macOS, etc., to be more useful than it has been throughout 2020. Frankly, nothing else matters unless the OS software works.

You are thinking of microLED - that is still years away (unless you fancy paying Samsung >$120k for a single display)

Something I hope they bring next year is user accounts for iOS especially iPads. Its probably kept out to generate more sales and is waiting for something like Face ID because surely we all know the importance of our devices correctly identifying us every single second we are using them. As they get rid of the home button on all their devices the ability to enable multiple user accounts across the board exists. Hopefully the parent will have full control of the device and the child accounts can have controlled access.

The only thing that is keeping me hanging and that I'm truly excited for right now is to see the next move with Apple silicon.

I'm not entirely sure if I'll be making the jump. My 16 inch machine just turned one, I'm poor and I'm not sure the program I need will run, but I'm so excited for all of you that will be enjoying the new processors!

Wot, no new iPod Touch? :D ;)
The iPod Touch keeps going until it is time for the SoC to loose support at which point Apple has to decide whether to keep it going. The 6th gen (A8) came out just as the A5 from the 5th gen was loosing support and the 7th gen (A10) came out when the A8 was loosing support. I think it's clear that the A10 will go for another year (the 10.2" iPad sold upto September had an A10) so Apple can postpone any decision.

Apple silicon, Mx, is still the most exciting, for me ... everything else is upgrades that are to be expected, AW7 might bring a new design, wish for the blood glucose sensor but that is not going to go into the AW (FDA clearance for the entire device is not going to happen), expect smart bands though ...

Apple wants to move consumer purchases for the MacBook Pro and iMac's from an average of 6 years ownership to 3 years. But keeping the price the same. I call BS, Oh look the M2 processor has come out now! time to upgrade like my iPhone. This is perfect with alinement with AppleCare 3 year program. Oh and we are going to devalue your old Mac if you want to trade it in, so we get more money for Apple stock holders.

Why is my Mac running so slow, oh it only has a M1 processor and Apple has upgraded the OS.

Do you have any kind of source for that? I don’t see how Apple’s current plans with Macs are really anything different from what they’ve always done other then the chip inside. Yes, there will be a M2, but how is that any different from Apple swapping out an old Intel chip for a newer one every year or so? Computers are always going to get better each year, that’s never not going to be the case.

And it’s not like most people upgrade their phones each year either, despite new models coming out on a yearly basis.
