Ready to purchase...but with the thought that an M2 Max Mac Studio could potentially show up...not ready to click on an upgraded M2 Mac mini Pro. I've waited for a very long time. I don't want to pay to be disappointed. Apple is keeping me from buying here. I think a roadmap would secure many other purchases as well.

With the current lineup, the Max Pro needs an extreme chip to be a viable option IMO.

M -MBA, Mini low end
M Pro/Max- MBP, Mini hi end
M Ultra- Studio
M Extreme- Pro

There’s no point buying a Mac Studio and only getting a Max chip. Just get a Mini instead.

Likewise there’s no point buying a Mac Pro with an Ultra chip. Just get the Studio instead.

The Mac Pro needs an Extreme chip or there’s very few use cases where the Studio won’t suffice.

User upgradable RAM would actually be a detriment to AS. I’m sure the engineers could make it work, but it would be a bottleneck

I just want a new iMac! is it that hard?!
Yeah! A iMac 27" replacement that has a 27", 30" or even 32" 6K display at a price of $2.6k!

- M2 Pro
- 10-Core CPU
- 16-Core GPU
- 32GB RAM LPDDR5
- 1TB SSD ~7.5GB/s
- ~100W

My 2012 model is turning 10 tomorrow!

Because the past two redesigns/rollouts were? A trashcan with nowhere to go, thermally, and then an over-designed Ive tower with the whole "premium wheels" and $1,000 display stand silliness. I'm so thankful those models aren't where I live and breathe, and have never needed for my modest vector-based illustration/design work. I'd be inconsolable! :p "I gotta buy what? For how much?!"

At one time, Apple didn't try to get cute with their workhorse, professional-targeted towers. They were still attractive, for whatever that might've counted for, but they were what they were: large enough boxes with a boatload of ports/slots and an entire side that came off to allow people to cram in whatever they wanted: RAM, specialty cards, a can of corn, etc. They sat on floors or on tables in non-boutique production environments where Stuff Got Done. That they kinda vanished into the environment, vs. perpetually lunging for design awards, was one of their best features, even if we didn't realize it at the time. :)

Then somebody decided they should be works of art, and here we are. Sometimes "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" even applies to outfits like Apple.
Apple’s design for the trash can was just ahead of its time. It’s a sound design, revolutionary even. At that point Apple was relying on others for horsepower tho. I’d like to see the trash can with an Extreme chip

With Siri, Apple was at the forefront of bringing an AI voice assistant to the masses. As that technology evolved, Apple fell way behind, and now Siri is often viewed as a disappointment that can’t compare with Google Assistant or Alexa. When it comes to generative AI, Apple doesn’t even have a first-mover advantage as it did with Siri. Tech companies big and small are already shipping powerful tools. Without action, Apple will simply wind up making some of the hardware upon which our generative-AI-driven future will run.

Without realizing the power of this new technology in its own software and services, Apple will let everyone else define the state of the art for what could be the most important shift in computing in decades. Perhaps the company is okay with that, but as hardware sales flatten and the software and services side of Apple’s business grows, it really can’t afford not to be a leader in the generative AI revolution.

That is a good thought to ponder.
I wonder if Apple wants to use AR running on iOS/IPadOS, and MacOS and combine that with Applications that support AI powered tasks that can automate what you do in a series of steps for content creation in its many forms. Video, Music, Art and, creating papers on various topics. WWDC 2023 will be the place to show off the capabilities of AS SoC's.
For a while Siri was lagging, but now it isn’t. The idea just settled into people’s heads so now it’s just parroted like it’s a fact. They’ll probably need to rename Siri at some point just to get out from under the false impressions

Also, generative AI is quickly becoming a buzzword for garbage products that claim to do more than what they actually do. It’s fancier autocomplete that is plagued by incorrect info.

Hasn't the iMac design been upgraded just recently? It already made the switch to Apple Silicon, what else do you need?
iMac 24" M1 will turn 2 in April.

Last iMac 27" resfresh is approaching 3 years by August.

Selling an iMac 27" from 2009-2022 and iMac Pro from 2017-2021 is proof that there is demand for a large iMac.

I'm one of them. Hour preorders are accepted I'm ordering to replace mine that received its last Security Update over half a year ago.

Comparison is apt when comparing a M2 Pro to a M1 Max.

But a refresh of the Studio M2 Max is expected within 4 months.

Mac Pro starting off at $10k, new iphones at $2k, iGoogles $2500 and Your First born son. No Doubt at all for the Price Increases due to inflation and Profit Protection.

I think we'll get a new complete tier system for the Mac Pro, call it PRO 1. The Mac Pro doesn't need to be anywhere near as efficient as these other computers. As fast as the Mac Studio is, the Mac Pro can't share the same jump cycle as the Studio, it doesn't make any sense. If this is the case then what will the Mac Studio turn into? One and done? Add on cards sounds un-apple like. Will it just be a Mac Studio with some expandability? I highly doubt it being we've been waiting a long time. They've been working on SOMETHING new.

If there's going to be a new Mac Pro there most certainly will be an 8K (or greater resolution) monitor, it's where the puck is going. Using the 6K Pro XDR's pixel pitch of 218ppi this would yield a 40–42" panel for an 8K Pro XDR display.

Seeing how Apple has more-than-made its ROI on the current 32" XDR panels since their 2019 release I should expect them to be repurposed for a 32" iMac Pro.

Them's my reckonings.
I would love for this to be true. I run two Dell 32" 8K displays now, but at 150% OS zoom (Windows). If Apple drops a 40-42" 8K Pro Display XDR that I could run at 100%, maybe I would be fine with one...

But that’s the whole point. Garbage in garbage out. The internet is full of garbage, and with all the SEO gaming out there, normal search isn’t working as well as it should. This is a tool that helps sift through garbage.

And it becomes even better when you’re working on simple things that doesn’t involve garbage.

This is exactly what we need. A Matte Black option would be ideal.

The new Mac Pro will be the 2019 Mac Pro case with an M2 Ultra iPad taped inside. Apple thought about putting 2 iPads inside and call it Extreme, but decided that wouldn’t have left enough space for both cobwebs and a rat’s nest. They were also planning to allow the creative professional to take the iPad out for work ‘on the go,’ but decided it wouldn’t be environmentally friendly to “disturb” the habitat and it would create a liability in case anyone got bitten.

lol... no... iPhone for $2k would probably have 2TB storage

The Extreme and Ultra parts, CPU and GPU core count, and Watts are based on M2 Max part and Mac Studio published power consumption.

By comparison a 2023 Intel Xeon Platinum 8468 48-Core CPU 10nm 350W chip is offered for $8,303.16.

It can accommodate 6TB DDR5-4800MHz RAM unlike a M2 Extreme being capped at 384GB LPDDR5-6400MHz

A Macrumors member reported that a 2022 Mac Studio M1 Ultra consumed ~140W at the wall. So doubling that for a 2023 Mac Studio M2 Extreme would be ~280W. Funny that the a whole system based on Apple's future 48-Core CPU chip would have an actual power consumption lower than just the Intel chip without its system.

If generative AI could actually distinguish between fact and fiction, I’d agree. But it can’t. In its current form it will always be error-prone

if that mac pro is true, it is such a letdown. it's basically an updated mac studio that allows for pcie cards? these days, many things can just plug into usb ports. even with industry grade components, the fact that it "only" has an Ultra chip is awful because the size of the machine gives it so much more legroom for processing power. if apple wants Mac Pro sales, they might as well just update the Mac Pro to have the latest xeon w chip and DDR5 memory. most companies would rather have that then a mac pro that failed to live up to its expectations
