It's still so odd to me that the iPad has a rear camera. To me it's a wart on what could be such a nice clean design. I'm sure Apple has the data showing people really do use it, but I just can't imagine why.
I sometimes use an iPad for video calling. And the back camera is needed to show my folk what’s in front of me. But I understand your desire to have a clean back.

Imagine purposely keeping bezel as a way of making it a lower tier offering.
There are actually people who prefer the bezel. One place where it’s nice for example is the use in schools, particularly with a tough case for kids with learning or motor disabilities and for older adults- the bezels make it easier to hold without hitting the screen for those whose dexterity isnt great.

I actually find the ipad the nearly ideal video call device (I have an air so my biggest complaint is the camera being on the side when it’s on the magic keyboard). And like you both cameras come in handy for that

Just for kicks I was looking at a Kindle Oasis today. Once you get the larger storage size and the COUGH ad free option, it gets up there in price!

You are like at nearly 300$

for something not nearly as versital as this.

Yes I know people sometimes prefer the paper white of the kindle I get it. just amazed at the price of the oasis

I love my Kindle (paperwhite, the Oasis is not worth it IMO) just because there are no notifications or distractions. It's like....like actually reading a book! Plus no PWM headaches. Well worth every last penny just to keep my dopamine receptors in check.

I just purchased an oasis as well haha, used it a few times. UI is clunky but I only got it because it has physical buttons for page turns which is a game changer, can’t be doing with this sliding across business to turn the page it’s not as sexy or as enjoyable for me

Good points. so true!

Do you think the Oasis is worth it if I do audible and like the idea of the page buttons? kinda into those. I use audible a lot but I want to do more reading of the same book I am listening to. Have you tried that flow and how would you say it is?

At first this picture made me think it was being redesigned as a landscape-first device, with camera and home button on the long sides. 🤣

Now that would be a major redesign. In fact a departure from the 12 year Portrait design of iPad.
And a badly-needed one. My iPad is in landscape mode 99% of the time.

The oasis is totally worth it for the page turn buttons. The trick is to wait for a sale, I got mine for less than half the standard price

If you're on stage and are people recording you, looking out to see a sea of iPads looks more majestic than a sea of phones

Does anyone know if the Apple polishing cloth will get an update ?
It will have the most beautiful notch and you'll love it, it's the most powerful polishing cloth ever ;)

I don't link the "newer" edger Apple designs from a comfort point of view, simply not as comfortable to hold in hands as the "rounded" ones.

Yeah I got one a few months ago because I just needed something much easier on my eyes. I just wish the ecosystem was better. For example, newspapers. Like I can get the WSJ for $4/mo for use on Mac/iOS. But for Kindle gotta pay $30/mo. and no access to the WSJ website. So I haven't done the wSJ on Kindle. I think about it because e-ink so much easier on the eyeballs. And there is something to reading without distractions as well.

And ebooks should be a lot cheaper than a physical book. That just still bugs me. And I would love to have an e-ink for reading documents.

But man I can read for hours and eyes don't feel it. Love it.

Biggest thing for me was my aging eyes, I can wear reading glasses no problem, but with a traditional book I'd have to crank up all the lights just to see the text. With the backlit Kindle I can keep just some soft lighting, or even lights off if my wife is asleep. Also a nice flat surface, instead of having to keep a book open and turn pages. For me it's an evolution from printed books.

I hear ya on the non books stuff like newspapers though, and even the book prices. If you compare the Kindle to an iPad there are definite trade offs, the Kindle is really really slow and the UI is horrible when browsing for books. But once you are inside a book that all goes away.
