Can anyone explain to me how the Second Quarter starts in January when the year 2023 starts in January? Shouldn’t we currently be in the 1st quarter or is that another weird American thing like putting the month before the day? Seriously wondering, no shade. Stock stuff is too complicated to me, tried EFTs for a while but failed miserably
Apple has a fiscal year end of Sept 30.

They lie constantly. What are you talking about?

I’ve never heard of Apple lying in an earnings call and I believe they’d be in serious hot water if they did.
Stating that a major corporation will commit fraud in an earnings call is just a simple, provocative, unsubstantiated thing to post. Welcome to internet forums.

But add when consumers are getting pounded with insane price increases for needs. Probably could have made a killing if they raised prices when we were fat on stimulus checks.
That wouldnt end too well for them in other parts of the world.
Most of the world didnt get any stimulus checks for free.

Most headlines would lead you to believe that earnings reports are mostly important because of the last quarter.

The more salient takeaway is almost always the guidance/expectations/plans for the coming quarter(s). That'll be the more interesting news, and more likely to influence the stock price reaction.

Let’s hope this is the beginning of year on year decline forcing them to lower prices and re-focus on making great products, not spreading features across different models just to create an artificial pricing structure.
1. They won’t lower prices (imo)
2. They make great products (imo)

Of course ymmv on this.

Saying that supply chain issues are why they made less money and shipped fewer iPhones is a blatant lie. Who is going to challenge them on that claim? It's still a lie even if no one challenges the claim.

Looks like AMD did very well, based on today's jump in stock price?

They do it all the time. Literally all the time. Are you suggesting that its not a lie unless someone takes them to court and proves it? Lies are still lies.
The burden of proof is on you, my dear. That’s how it works. We’ll all believe you as soon as you come up with evidence they’ve committed fraud in an earnings call, bearing in mind that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence (N.B. “You’re naïve for thinking otherwise, you silly naïve internet persons!” does not constitute extraordinary evidence). I for one might even apologize for doubting you. Until then you can go right ahead and sputter all you want.

They will lower price if the market demands them to through low sales.

Apple are in the same place they were when they started to decline in early 90’s. Prices too high and products not good enough.

In your opinion they make good products but sales falling shows otherwise.

You probably agree Apple violating labour laws in the US.

Apple offers just as many opinions as they do facts during earnings calls.

Exchange rates (strong USD), inflation, economic concerns, and supply chain issues can all be at least partially blamed for any unit or revenue declines.

According to IDC numbers, however, Apple does seem to be doing better than the industry overall when it comes to smartphone sales.

Maybe not, it depends on the cause.

No they are not. Good products hit with supply constraints. Different than in the 90s.

Is it possible sales fall generally when money gets tight? Or are people so “angry” with apple for not producing their product they are oblivious to the economy?

Do I believe apple has violated a labor law at least once in the US since time immorium is the question?

It has more to do with the fact that people bought what they needed during the pandemic years and don't feel the need to replace what they bought 2 years later hence the decline in PC and smartphone shipments

Then there's the worry about a recession and people shifting their spending towards traveling and doing stuff vs buying physical discretionary items.
That describes me. There's only so much time and attention I can give to any given physical consumer product. Any expenses beyond that is just wasted. I too have been cutting back with consumer products so I can travel more. The experiences will do me better in the long run for sure.

It really feels like Apple wishes their customer base would pay them a premium for their products, but also buy them as much and as frequently as low-end devices. Can't have it both ways! At least for those of us who don't have that kind of extra $$ lying around!

Maybe they’ll reconsider their product strategy of incrementally adding features like WiFi 6E and a periscope lens years after the competition.
I had to deal with this sort of thing when I was into the Palm OS platform from the 00s and into the 10s. Consumers wanted "an ultimate device that had it all", but the problem was, if they don't hold back, they won't have anything to draw us for future products

I don’t think Apple expects you to replace your devices very often, that’s why they support them for so long. It sounds like you are projecting!
