Same size(?) but even brighter enough to burn the eyes out of yer sockets. WOW! Thanks Apple! <sheesh...>

4K at 27 inches is not the same as 5K at 27 inches though. There are multiple 5K screens out now, some decent ones at $800. The ASD I use looks significantly better than the 4k Dell U2723qe that I used to have, especially if you stare at text all day.

But I generally agree, the ASD is not worth $1600 currently, but that was your only option for a long time. I still think it is the "best" option if you can stomach the cost. The current model should probably be reduced to $999 or $1200 (at least), especially when you consider the 32" 6K display from ASUS that is likely going to be in the $1200 - 1500 range.
There’s only 2 models “available” of the 27” 4k qb-oled and both over $1100. Those 2 models are unavailable for purchase for the most part as the ASUS is backordered and the MSI is MIA if you’re shopping in the USA.

There’s allegedly more models coming that use the panel from Samsung but they will lack the dp2.1 port the 2 current models possess.

I think they will upgrade Display XDR with tandem OLED first, then give Studio Display mini-LED.

Pretty trashy u have to chose height adjustable stand and can’t make any changes after purchase. Yes I paid extra for the ability to change the height 4” yes I feel bent over but by a silver fox like Tim so it’s okay it’s only 4 inches ya know.

The current Studio Display stands far too high. Worse, the so-called height adjustable version only goes up -- it doesn't reduce the height at all. What a stupid design. Please make a properly height adjustable monitor ... not one that only goes up.

It’s a bit discriminatory. Long bodied people have to pay more for an ergonomically suitable Apple display.

Hence I never can buy one.
Apple implementation of display height adjustment the results in changing the viewing distance is just a plain poor design decision. Especially with a multi display desktop configuration. And the fact that Apple charges more for height adjustment displays just makes their poor design implementation even worse.

Well it works for many people, but obviously everyone's preferences are different. Just get the VESA mount version (same price as the default stand) and then you can use any VESA stand you want.

It needs to be a 32-inch display. Otherwise, why bother. You can get great displays from company's like Samsung (like I am using now.) I have two 32-inch Samsung's for less than the price of the Apple monitor.

Well then it wouldn't be retina, so I doubt they'd do that.

Expecting same price for a new display that will be brighter and it will have a higher refresh rate. Other than that not expecting anything else.

The fact that these are designed NOT to work with any device but a Mac is ridiculous. Change that.

I also hate the whole "system in a screen" reliance on a CPU and freakin 64 gig of storage in a monitor? LMAO WTF!?

If they do introduce 90hz, it'll end up being $1,999 with basic stand or VESA mount. Forget 120hz.

Maybe the M processors are not powerful enough for 120 or 240 Hz. Maybe apple needs to switch back to Intel.

All 14” and 16” MacBook Pro’s have featured Pro Motion 120HZ screens since the first Apple Silicon models. I think they are quite capable of handling high refresh rates.

If miniLED like on the 12.9” iPad Pro, then NO! If miniLED like on the MacBook Pro, then YES! If tandemOLED like on my M4 iPad Pro, then hells yes, pretty please, etc etc etc

Regardless, some other improvements are hopefully on tap. Personally, I’m not thrilled with the 27” size, but I could get over that. The supposed timing is ideal for me as well; I expect to replace my M1 laptop with an M5 version…

M2 and above can run 5k 120hz no problem - I am doing this now on a Dell U4025QW
M1 could run the same at 110hz with a custom dp/hdmi adapter, but Apple just broke this in 15.3

> Young has a pretty good track record with display-related information for future Apple products.

I don't think so... he first predicted this to launch in June... of 2022.

Most likely Apple will release an updated Studio Display, eventually. But are we really going to give this guy credit after incorrectly predicting a release for years on end???

Like many people with money to spend, I'm old and blind. Minecraft is retina for me.

What I really hate is small monitors and monitors that look ugly.

So get with it Apple.

Make $1,000 27", 4K, 120Hz pretty monitors that match the colors of your IMacs and you'll sell more than 10x what you sell in studio displays.

The Studio Display didn't make sense at launch, and especially doesn't make sense now when there's 27" 4K 240hz QD-OLEDs for $900.

Hoping the new version has the Tandem OLED tech from the iPad Pro, but that seems unlikely based on rumors.

But... It doesn't have the special Apple branding that makes so many feel comfortable because they know it just works. This is what they base their sales on. Control of the mind and the mind controls the wallet.

It's taking a long time but BenQ finally has a variety of monitors that are better suited for several uses, particularly design, photography, and even programmers.

The prices are still a little bit high for me, but at least you know that's quality kit. But as far as I know none of the monitors have two 16 dpi, and good luck if you're a photographer looking for RGB numbers. Grrrr. P3 can jump a cliff.

Ugh. I’ve used Apple products since way back in the day with the Apple 56k.

I’m a designer, and have always used a two monitor setup. So naturally when the 32” XDR was released, I figured I’d buy two. Well I definitely didn’t need two. So I returned one (was in the window thankfully), but within the last two years, my financial situation changed drastically so I sold the other 32” for a big loss. But honestly, it was too wide without it being curved. I found myself basically moving my chair side to side to see the screen. So I sold it and bought two 27” which was perfect. At 27” size, anything less than 5k I just can’t do. If the fonts look pixelated it drives me nuts.

The other day I tried another curved monitor. I found 34” was a sweet spot. But for those that complain about price point, the quality of Apple studio at $1500 is perfectly fine with me. The build quality is just so great. I tried a Samsung, Dell, and a couple others and they just felt cheap. Plus the resolution for text was horrible.

Looking back, I do wish I would have kept the 32” XDR. I do like my screens bright as well. Some don’t. But I downloaded an app to increase brightness.

I wasn’t expecting an update for the studio. I doubt I’d upgrade. I think a single 30” retina would be perfect for me.

I guess I had no point to my post. Maybe I thought it was story time.

I already cry that I spent $$$$ on a maxed out M1 ultra studio and 16” MacPro on release. Now the little M4 mini is just as great.

And it blows my mind the desktop and rackmount Mac Pros are still at the price points that they are. The rackmount is beautiful. I recently saw a 2019 for $2500. I hope they surprise us and release a user upgradable version.

I feel like we’re going towards subscription based models just like an iPhone or iPad. The Mac Mini would be perfect for something like this.

They are either secretly working out some kinks on big ideas behind the scenes, or the board of directors are beginning to take control of my beloved brand.

Once Tim is gone, I don’t have a good feeling about this. Things worked because Jobs wasn’t afraid to say “no”. Then Jonathan left (though still works with them). I’ve had to design high level projects with Boards opinions. Nothing good ever would come out of it. As soon as Jobs was gone, look at how the advertising even changed. We are no longer for the “crazy ones”. We’re for the college kids that want to be hip :-(

-end of rant.

What’s a good price to pick one of these up second hand? I see one going for €1100 but would try to haggle down a bit, wondering if €900 would be worth jumping on it?

Just bought a Mac Studio. Desktop previously running two separate M1 laptops and a LG Ultrafine 5K. When I needed to switch laptops, I would move the Thunderbolt cable to the laptop I wanted to work on, carrying the keyboard and ethernet with it.

But now I don't have TouchID and it sucks. Can't believe I got hooked on it haha. The TouchID keyboard is apparently locked to a single machine according to the Apple Platform Security PDF. So presumably FaceID will be the same way.

So I guess they are either going to put FaceID in the next monitor and I will buy it, or I'm going to have to leave the keyboard and mouse permanently connected to the Studio and connect the laptops to the Studio with T4 cables. One of the laptops is typically a work laptop with MS bloat on it, so that will be a different drama.

Does Apple have the multiple-machine desktop figured out and I'm doing it wrong?

EDIT: Oh wait, I forgot the watch can unlock Macs! Good enough!

Ok, where is the new Studio Display? Take muh moneh!!!

I cant wait that long - looks like I'm going with the current model.
I want to get a large display too. Ive been working with graphics on a 16" mbpro for 3years now, you can wait bro, if i can do it, you can do it too. :)

I was just at one of the largest consumer electronics chains here in Sweden. The salesman said that there is not a single store which has one in stock and that they are unable to procure more.

Maybe a sign that Apple is about to release a new one?

I just checked the Apple Canada store and (unfortunately) it's available for pickup today in Toronto. So no supply issues here.

Me, I've been holding out buying a Studio (to replace a 2015 27" iMac) until the poor Webcam is fixed. Looks like I'll be waiting a while longer!

I love my Studio Display! Thinking about buying a second one.

For me the image quality absolutely fine. Especially with True Tone and automatic brightness. Just like on your iPhone. Which other display does that?

A bigger size option would be nice.

And PLEASE Apple replace the camera! I'm doing a lot of video calls and the quality ist really sad for the price point. Colors are fine for me but it is not really sharp and detailed. The 12MPixels are wide angle and the actual image is cropped out of that (with Center Stage or without). That is not enough. My MacBook Pro M1 has a much better quality camera! I really don't get it. I think it was the first product with Center Stage which was not matured at the time.
The camera is usable and works okay. It just does not deliver what you would expect from such an expensive product.

This week I upgraded from a pair of 6 year old 1080p monitors to a pair of Studio Displays. I'm quite astonished at how much better the display looks.
