I suggest people try the iPhone 12/13 mini side-by-side with the SE2.

To me, after using the mini for a while, the SE2 actually feels smaller and lighter, even though it’s not.

I can’t explain it. Could be the overall shape that makes it look thinner. It could be a combination of looking thinner, having Touch ID, and being more ergonomic (to me).

This is interesting, I'm late to the smartphone world, I have the original Iphone SE, I need to upgrade because of battery life and I would like a slightly larger screen but I am deciding between the Mini and the SE2 (obviously now waiting on the SE3), I would like to keep the home button but I don't like the fact that the SE2 is heavier and taller than both Minis.

But the fact that either you don't notice the difference in weight or for some odd reason the SE2 feels lighter, that would make me lean toward the SE2/SE3, how is one handed texting on the SE2 vs. the Mini?

I need to get down to the Apple store to compare in person but anything more you can add to your experience would be helpful, thank you.

I went from iPhone 13 Pro to Mini and eventually settled on the SE2 for exactly this reason: easier one-handed use.

Even on the Mini, I found that other parts of my hand would often unintentionally make contact with the screen because it takes up the entire space. With large bezels found on the SE2, one-handed use is far easier. That’s been my experience.

Large bezels may not look trendy, but they are far more practical, believe it or not. Again, this was my experience. Having the screen stretch all the way to the edges is less practical IMO (although it does look much cooler and innovative).

Those who always hold and type on their phone with two hands probably don’t experience any of this. I personally love true one-handed use. It’s also difficult to reach lower parts of the screen on the Mini while holding it with one hand. Never had that problem on the 8/SE2.

To summarize, all this combined with Touch ID makes the SE2 (and SE3 soon) a clear winner in my book. It’s just more ergonomically friendly and easier to live with.

Saying modeled after the 6 is a stretch. the 6 and 7 had serious differences, even physical ones. It's modeled after the iPhone 7. Not that 6 years is much better!
I had a 6, 6s and 7 and they have all the the same dimensions and body design as the current SE. The design differences are only in the used materials and antenna lines and the camera extrusion. The basic design is identical.

Truly identical to the 8, but there were some small differences in specs from 6-8

Yeah, I had a 6 and currently have a 7. The feel of the 7 is just so much of a higher quality over the 6. It looks better, feels better, and overall is a significant improvement. I feel like calling it the same design isn't right just because the buttons are in the same place and they weigh the same.

Same. I have the 12 mini, and not only is it still too big, but the edge-to-edge screen isn't helpful. Modern phones seem to be designed for people to hold with two hands or with a knob on the back. It's irritating, but I guess I'm way outnumbered as someone who only uses a phone to text, call, or occasionally call an Uber.

Yep.

I've tried the 12 mini for a short bit and I couldn't wait to get back to my SE1

I guess I will be riding those until I literally can't --- then I don't know what.

That was my approach with my 5. What eventually killed it was AT&T dropping cell support.
Replacement was a 6S. Still too big, but has old design and jack. Kept that till it broke right before a big trip, when I had no time to find a used one and had to buy the 12 mini instead.

But I have a really nice camera now. Maybe it was worth.

These are used as work phones for a lot of employers. I worked for several city agencies in NYC and these low cost iPhones are almost primarily used as work phones.
Yup. That’s exactly what my work phone was as well. They were cheap, kind of like a ‘fleet line’ for our agency. But compared to how large smart phones are and cumbersome, the SE was perfect in every sense for being compact and not intrusive when carrying our personal phones in addition.

The only downside, was a smaller display, which takes time getting used to when you’re utilizing a larger 6.5 inch display, but overall, you adjust.

Coming from the SE1, I am kind of stuck between the rumored SE3 and the 13 Mini for my next iPhone.

My SE1 is getting older, so I would like to get something new. I really dislike the design of the SE2/Rumored SE3, and it is a little too big than what I want, but I like Touch ID and the cheaper (rumored) price is nice.

I like the design of the 13 Mini, and the size of it will be closer to the SE1, but think I will miss Touch ID.

I think I am leaning towards the iPhone 13 Mini.
Go for the mini, that's from a 12 mini user that really disliked the 6 design and loves the original SE

„which is modeled after the ‌iPhone‌ 8“

Are you getting payed by Apple for whitewashing this outdated design? This phone is not modeled after the iPhone 8 design. It is modeled after the iPhone 6 design which is now eight years old.
While the iPhone6 and the iPhone8 look the same from the front, they are different from the back. The 6 and the 8 both feature the 4.7" screen, TouchID, rounded edges. The biggest difference between the 6 and 8 designs is the glass back, which allows for Qi charging.

Read an article on Macworld.com this evening that mentions the iPhone SE 2022 may start at $299 or at least Apple could lower the price. Given Samsung and other companies offer phones (as I understand it) in that price range, this could be interesting if accurate. In my household, we may in the market for new iPhones this year. We're looking forward to the 8 Mar Apple event in any case.

I don't see that happening. Apple likes their fat margin. A new price of $299 would cut into that too much, unless their manufacturing process has gotten much cheaper.
