CF and CF Express are not the same thing. CF cards where the standard card in all professional DSLR's for decades, mostly seen in the very popular Canon 5-series bodies used by wedding and events shooters on mass and on the Nikon D800 series. The Canon 1Dx line had a bit of a mix with dual CF, then CFast 2 + CF, and finally dual CF Express B. Nikon went for dual CF and dual XQD models.

Adding a CF reader isn't hard but it was going out of date by the time the 2019 Mac Pro came. And on the older 2010 Mac Pro most of the readers where FW 800. The 2019 Mac Pro would have to give up one of its PCIe slots to support a CF express reader, but that would be daft when you can choose to plug a card in or use a TB3 port. Especially given it is common to use 2+ readers at the same time if your Mac's storage is fast enough.
You also have to remember, there are others pros other than videographers/photographers that use MBPs.

Like devs, programmers IT and students. They will be thankful that HDMI and mafsafe exists as it could be very useful
in a classroom or meeting. MagSafe could save a students laptop.

Though lightning still exists so Apple may be daft enough to irk everyone and the EU mandates for a standard charging cable on all devices from phones to laptops.
That is why apple will still allow USB-C charging. Its not going away.

I‘m with you here. It would be nice to do a little research first and a not a blind buy. I really think there will be substantial delays for people who wait.
There was a frequent superstition here to never buy a rev a Apple computer. Always wait for rev b or c as by that time the gimmicky new design will have all the kinks ironed out.

I actually still use a VGA 1080p monitor. Why throw away something that still works.

USB-C to VGA. 😂
Well aye, I have a couple USB-C to VGA cables so that I can take my computer into the server room. I also have USB-C to RJ45 console. And TB3 to 10 Gbps Ethernet. No dongles required.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thunderbolt-Adapter-Gold-plated-Compatible-MacBook/dp/B07HF9BQJD/ the first thing on a search. Not the one I use, but it'll do you. You can even get USB-C to serial for the odd times you need that.

I gave my 2018 MBP to the new guy at work, so if the new MBP's don't make an appearance, I'm going to have a problem.

I’m excited for the HDMI and SD card. 3 TB ports are enough, you’d likely use one for this purpose anyway. Most photographers are still using SD over CFexpress, what world are you living in?

Most people do use SD cards. Also drones and go pros use SD card as well.

I am sure apple did their research before adding the ports back

This is all just peachy, but man in 5 days Pink Floyd is releasing the de-80's-ified version of A Momentary Lapse of Reason. Original analog recordings of Richard Wright's organ work & Nicks real drums, no cheesy midi synths, stupid drum machines, or crummy early low-bitrate digital effects. After 30 years it's all I'm even looking forward to this year. This whole event is just a nice bonus as far as I'm concerned.

Already sold my 2019 16" MBP, so I am ready for an upgrade. I hope it runs much cooler than the 2019 model, has an increased resolution, and an improved webcam. Anything else I don't care as much about.

I also really hope we see AirPods 3 as their absence is one reason I'm holding off on buying the iPhone 13.

I just want mine day 1 with no delays or hardware issues. I hope it only takes a week or two before it arrives.

Sometimes I think Apple plants people on the forums to trigger impulse buys. Seriously, if you don’t need it right away, don’t rush to buy it. Hear what the reviews say first and see if any issues pop up from the early adopters. I noticed I have some glitches when playing audio from the Music app on my M1. But, if its not a necessity, wait on Rev 2 or 3. The folks who really should be looking at this really are 2017 and earlier.

If they try to release these MacBook pros with worse external monitor support than the 2016 MacBook Pro 15", I'm out. No purchase for me. They really should push the envelope and support 2x 6K monitors in my opinion.
