At this point, the only other thing we may possibly get is 16GB of RAM, and considering that they didn't make such a big deal of it during the keynote, I don't think it's there.

So yeah, just a spec bump, which is what I have kept saying all along. Hate to say "I told ya so" but there it is.

Kaby Lake is 5-10% improvement over the last generation.

Meaning it's about the same as the jump from the m5 to m7 of last generation.

It's so minor that you're better off buying the 2016 model at a discount for the best bang for your buck.

12.9 iPad Pro faster and cheaper than Macbook now...and with ios 11 features, it could be a real alternative.

m3, i5, i7
GPU from 515 to 615
2nd gen keyboard
m3 > m5 upgrade option
16GB RAM option

i5/16/512 config is at $1799, not unreasonable at all considering the 13" rMBP without Touch Bar is like... oh... THE EXACT SAME PRICE!

Wow, Apple...

True but thr rMBP has a much faster processor doesn't it?
I'd still get the Macbook though.

The price in Europe went up. Surprise!!! (not so much)

I was really worried they'd cut the prices and I'd be chewing off my own head for buying the 2016 m5 but as the price is now, I saved 25% by getting open box with 6 cycles and similar specs. I'd like improved graphics but I wouldn't €400 like them.

So, despite the fact that the m3 and the i5 chips cost the same amount, there is no reduction in the low to mid price cost different. Essentially now it's £300 to add 256 GB to the SSD...

Option to upgrade from the m3 to the i5 without the SSD upgrade changed my plans.

Just ordered the i5 with 16GB. Just take my money, Apple :)

So do we think this will run Rocket League ok over bootcamp?

Someone please chime in, going to order either this or the 13" MBP in the next 24 hours and want to know! Thanks!

EDIT: Also would be nice to know if 4K @ 60hz would be workable on this... Thank you!

Just placed an order and maxed it out. In store pick up is June 19th. I got my employer discount so the price is not too bad.... I kept my last laptop for 8 years so I figured the maxed out specs are best for me, even if the gain is minimal.

4K @ 60Hz is already workable on the 2016 model if you turn off interface transparency. Considering the GPU is the same thing, just named 615 instead of 515 now, I don't expect for there to be much difference.

And if you plan on doing any gaming at all, go with the 13" rMBP, or buy a Dell XPS 15 (which can go up to 4K with some games just fine). The 12" MacBook should only be used for non-Gaming stuffs.

I thought the 615 was actually a gpu upgrade over the 515 and not just a rebrand !?

It's not an upgrade.

People really need to get their facts straight. In a nutshell:

Kaby Lake = Skylake with faster clock speeds + new video accelerator chip

Intel has been lagging behind their processor schedule. The "major" jump will be with Cannonlake/Coffee Lake. Kaby Lake is just a minor spec bump by refining the process of Skylake.

And in case you didn't remember, Skylake was already a major jump last time. The 515 is anywhere between 30-50% faster than the 5300 used in the 2015 MacBook.
