First of all, good luck with your purchase. If I were you, I would hold off until the updated version comes out. I read on a rumor site that the new MBP's will have the multitouch pad. I also am hoping they add a blu-ray drive, but haven't found anything to confirm this possibility. The new chipset from Intel will make you an early adopter, but it's not likely to have too many issues since they are delaying sales to make sure they get it right. I'm not sure if it's so much a bump in speed as it may be reduced heat or increased battery life. Someone correct me if I'm wrong?
I purchased my 17" MBP back when the top of the line was 2.33 GHZ C2D. I use Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut, Dreamweaver, Flash, Motion, Poser, and Vue 6. I upgraded to 4 gigs of ram, and despite what I've read regarding limitations for this model, it shows up in my system specs as 4gigs.
It cost me about 100 dollars to upgrade my ram totally at newegg.com, (2 new 2gig chips), and I sold my factory ram on eBay to offset costs.
I have never had any issues or problems with my MBP. I highly recommend Apple Care, and you can purchase this within the first year on eBay for less than the Apple Store charges I believe? This was my second Mac after building my own PC's for years. I found that after about 2 weeks, I fell in love with my Macs, and I completely abandoned my PC desktops. They just never get turned on anymore.
