I am downloading a DVD iso of OS X 10.4.11 Tiger I figured that might be a little easier. I noticed that on the emac DVDs they had the Mac OS X 10.3.5 on them separately and I think that is why it worked if I tried anything else on the DVD it would tell me it was the incorrect Macintosh.

hmm.. possibly. Let me check somefin'. Ok, according to MacTracker:

SOFTWARE

Original OSMac OS 9.1 (Mac OS ROM 6.7.1)
Later OSMac OS 9.1 and Mac OS X 10.0.3
Maximum OSMac OS X 10.4.11
Hardware TestAHT (Power Mac) 1.2, 1.2.1, 1.2.2, 1.2.3, 1.2.4, 1.2.5, 1.2.6, 1.2.7
Bundled SoftwareMac OS 9.1; QuickTime, iMovie 2, iTunes, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook Express, Netscape Communicator, FAXstf Pro, and Palm Desktop; Apple Hardware Test CD. Configurations with DVD-R/CD-RW drive include iDVD authoring and encoding software.

The 10.3.5 sounds like a non-retail disc that you have which contains the eMac strings so it will work on that machine only. Odd its working on the DA. The above gives the listing of all versions that came with the machine. Yeah, to be safe, use Tiger which they state is the max OS - not ! You can try to fake Leopard and that will help also. I run OS 9.2.2 on my Titanium as I am trying to get Classilla to load up most websites and also i USE it for development. 10.0.3 ? Cheetah won't work anymore at all, so yeah.. Tiger would be best bet.. you also have the AHT 1.2.3 I think.

Yeah and I did order the 10.3.5 retail version as well off of eBay. I would like to own all retail releases of Mac OS X and the Pre OS X Apple Operating Systems as well because I am trying to collect all Major OSs that were in Big Box form in retail, I have every version Windows now from 1.0 to XP both upgrade and Full.

I did order another restore kit that was for Powermac G4s maybe that'll work, but if not I will not buy any more restore disks.

Ok, well let me know how the new ones work out. Dude, its still strange that an eMac disc set works on a DA.. really somfin' isn't addin' up here. That is like, I have a 2010 MacBook Pro and the disc set from a 2011 works on the 2010.. REALLY effing odd ! But, let me know when it arrives and the result.

I think the ones that were in “big box” retail were OS 8, OS 8.5,8.6, 9, 10.0, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4 - after Tiger we went to small box versions - 10.5 Leopard, 10.6 - Snow Leopard, then it all stopped after that. I miss the intro screens with music which are not found in anything after 10.6.8. Sadly, Mac OS X became IOS overnite.. I am more on my Titanium 1Ghz G4 than my 2015 MacBook Pro with Big Sur. Seems Apple brings out a new OS every year which is wrong for some, because I am just beginning to learn Big Sur.

the older machines are still capable in many ways, I don’t use social media too much though I am close to your age maybe a little younger. Dude, I also luv the Dukes of Hazzard ! Boss Hogg and Roscoe.

I do have a late 2013 iMac 21.5inch I custom ordered with I believe the max you could get at the time. I am not a fan of any of the new macs though mostly cause they've locked it down more and you can't really upgrade anything in there lower price ranges because they have everything pretty much soldered to the motherboards. I am a big proponent of Home Built computers I have built my last 4 computers myself including the one I am using now.

Cool Yeah I am a huge fan of The Dukes of Hazzard and have met all the living cast at the time except Tom Wopat and also have a Dukes of Hazzard Memorabilia Collection and all 7 seasons on DVD though My collection is currently in my closet waiting for some shelves in my bedroom.

I tried burning the DVD version of it onto a DVD + R but that did not work and I used disk utilities and check the DVD and it said this:
IMG_20210530_075241179.jpg

So that gave me an Idea so I went and checked the original OS X Disk that came with the restore software and that checked fine so I am going to try and download the cd version off of Macintosh Garden and see what happens. I'm starting to think the drive might be dirty or failing, it's very weird and confusing though exactly what is going on.

Also both DVDs show up as bootable under Startup Disk Program.

Hi, yep sounds like the drive maybe bad or the disc. Remember, media can last long time, but soon it develops problems, so I am think it is maybe drive that is bad or disc is messed up.

I am trying a few other things right now and the 4 disk CD download for 10.4 Tiger will get to 10-12% writing files to disk and then says there is a problem with disk doesn't say whether HDD or CD is the issue and says to try again.

Yeah I'll do that, I wonder if the data on those disks is corrupted somehow?

Edited: I'm wondering if the disk is suppose to have another disk with it? because when I search for a retail version it looks like this with 2 disks: View attachment 1783586
Mine looks exactly like the disk with white background and blue x but did not come with the grey disk?
The grey disc is just the dev tools. On OEM discs, they are sometimes combined if on DVD, otherwise you get a bunch of CDs, one with a system installer, one with a system restore and if your computer straddled OS9/OSX you'll likely get separate discs for OS9 installations/restore as well as the dev tools.

With the existence of the Macintosh Garden, using anything other than the retail versions is pretty much just for novelty. Unless you're putting Tiger on a late 2005 G5 or G5 then you might need it's original install discs; not the case with your DA.

The latest you'll be able to get from there is I think 10.4.7, and then the combo update to 10.4.11. There is no 10.4.11 DVD of it's own.

I don't why I'm having so much trouble getting tiger on here it is very strange and doesn't make any sense I am downloading the 10.4.6 DVD iso from Macintosh Gardens right now and will get back to when I try that one. I don't know if it has something to do with burning an iso or downloading it on a windows pc cause I do not have any macs that have access to the internet.

I have used PCs plenty to burn Mac OS. It shouldn’t matter what OS it’s burned on.
The one you are using should work. The Macintosh Garden is the only place I would bother getting anything from.
Also, you mentioned earlier that you were using a DVD+R? That could be a problem. Older computers don’t usually recognize those. Unless you have a new drive in your DA, I suggest using DVD-R.

No I did just clean the eye and put it back in thinking that might've been the problem but no didn't do anything and I know it did read the DVD+R fine and showed it on the desktop though if it is a blank one it will not even show up at all in disk utility or anything. I also don't know the history of this machine what it was used for before I bought it or if anything has been replaced other then I know from opening it up that the Video Card has been upgraded and someone added the SCSI card and USB Card to it and Ram has been added.

I just ordered a new DVD drive for it from Operator HeadGap here and it is the second one down.

Edited: I finally got OS X Tiger installed I had to copy the dmg file on to the main HDD Partition the second drive and copy the disk image using Disk Utilities to the second HDD so I could us that drive to install it onto the main HDD and it worked!

Looks like I might have to go with a single CPU at 1.8Ghz cause he says "I do have a single 1.8GHz 7448 upgrade that does include a heatsink, as well as a single 1.8GHz 7447 that includes a heatsink. I also have a 1.4GHz 7457 CPU card that should plug in and work with your existing heatsink (it originally came from a Digital Audio). And, I also have a 1.53GHz 7457 CPU card that came from a Quicksilver. That one should work with your heatsink if you cut some clearance for the capacitors, or if you use a heatsink from a Quicksilver. The Single CPU Quicksilver heatsinks are still pretty easy to find. If you want to proceed with the dual CPU, I can make a heatsink for it, but it will take some time. Or you can DIY something on your own, or if you can find a heatsink from a dual 800MHz or dual 1GHz Apple Quicksilver computer, it should work." What do you guys think?
If it were me, Id go with whatever has the correct matched heatsink and is a fair asking price. Hunting down an aftermarket heat sink while not impossible, does add to your cost and is a potential headache in both time and effort to source. Also, sellers that have just the heatsink, know you as the buyer are over a barrel without one and will charge you for it.

I ended up not ordering and will wait a while to see if dual processor one comes up for sale that comes with the proper heatsink and whatever else I may need before I even think of trying to buy one again.
