You know, that dashboard trick Lacero showed us is probably a bug instead of a feature, I'm pretty sure apple didn't even notice that soon enough, maybe they'll add that compatibility in a future 10.4.? update, or just remove it completely.

It isn't a bug, just a feature that hasn't been fully developed yet!

it kills apple remote desktop

when it launches it quits out right away

this is even after installing the 2.1 update

Apple Remote Desktop 2.2 comes with Tiger and is designed for it. That's why 2.1 doesn't work. At least that's what I remember...correct me if I'm wrong.

previous OS releases havent come with the ARD admin app, i'm assuming that apple will release the 2.2 update through software update on or after friday. apple's website still lists 2.1 as the latest available

Just a thought. I have been using a cruddy 15" CRT monitor this week and I realise that with such pathetic screen estate, life without menu bar icons is a real pain. So, Dashboard and its widgets may just have saved the usefulness of the smallest monitors - making it even easier for PC users with the oldest kit to plug into a mac mini and have true Mac ease of use via Dashboard.

I'm still not finding the ability to make widgets stay on the desktop. I'm holding one (calculator) with my mouse and I hit F12, but they all just go away as usual.

Well hope you will get it to work because that would be great ;)

I meant the ARD client, not the admin app. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple decidec to bundle ARD admin with Tiger Server, though.

i've read at arstechnica that ARD client 2.1 works on tiger with no problems

The ARD 2.2 client will be released via SU on Friday. The 2.1 admin does not work with Tiger. You have to use 2.2 which should also be available via SU on Friday.

There is very little chance ARD admin would be bundled with Server as it can function just fine (and frequently does) from a client machine. In fact I would imagine very few users use the ARD admin app from OS X server, but use it more likely to connect TO a server (in addition to many other clients).

One of their best (if not sometimes buggy) apps. Showing someone a lab of machines at the same time is a sight to see.

this is what i think

i find it has it's share of bugs too. the apple system engineer for so cal higher ed has a flashy ARD demo: he has remote machines at his house open their cd drives with via a root command. his isight at home is pointed at his machines so ppl can see the drives open-- pretty cool effect. i usually just issue my lab a restart command to show 31 restart chimes in unison to ppl

The reason this is the case is because ARD's client/server model is turned on its head: instead of one server connected to many clients, it's one client connected to many servers. In order to make ARD sound more like a normal client/server application, Apple called the server the client and the client the server. Confused? Don't worry, it confuses the heck out of me too.

How did you do that, exactly?

I was able to get it two work with 2 or more widgets without the first one being pushed back into the Dashboard background. Here's a weather widget being placed on the main desktop. And the second pic shows the weather in NY, NY.
