So I'm sure you guys knew just about everything about the iPad from Engadget, MacRumors, etc, but once you got your hands on it and got to use it for a few day/weeks, what is the most surprising thing about it? Would you agree that it is "magical?"

It is super bright.....and it makes some kind of noise inside like when a laptop loads a disk, i'm guessing that's the inside working:p

In the noisy store, the vibration of the speaker in certain apps felt like force feedback, as I had nothing else to pin the sensation to.

It's not magical. I bet the Apple engineers understand it just fine. I'd replace "magical" with "cool." Though I wouldn't have an issue with calling it revolutionary.

What surprised me the most? 256 MB of RAM probably.

Unless you're talking about good things, and then I'd say I was most surprised by how much more you could do with it than an iPod Touch, despite them running the same OS. The screen size and quality made all the difference.

    To counteract mikethebigo:
How magical it was using one for the first time. It felt like I was holding a glimpse of the future of technology in my hands.

I was not ready for the screen. Much better than I expected it to be.

The battery life was also a pleasant surprise. Glad to know that someone UNDERestimated!

How loud the speaker is! Pretty sure my jaw dropped, it's as loud as my iMac!

Agreed. That line from the promo has annoyed me ever since the keynote. Its not just using the word magical, its the weird way they phrase it. As if this product is beyond our comprehension so obvious it is magic! Too gimmicky.

I was really excited when I went to purchase one the other day, but they were sold out so I went to the reserve list.

There is a complete difference from watching other people use them, and finally getting your hands on one. I would say I was most shocked about how the whole experience felt. The feel I was expecting was that of an iPhone, but it is truly completely different. It feels more authentic and natural compared to an iPhone, and that is really why I want to get one now.

I would have to agree that the experience of using it is completely different than watching someone use it. Using it for the first time at Best Buy actually changed my mind at the spot. I went there to just check it out because I love Apple products and had no expectation of buying it. Thought I would hold it for a minute or two and then go home, but once I played around with it, it completely changed my mind. I actually went back to my car to get my credit card to buy it only to find out it was sold out at the moment. So I went home, contemplated buying it and after thinking about it for a while, decided to drive about an hour to the Apple store to buy it. :)

That's marginally less annoying than the term "Blazing fast" that i keep seeing.

I plan to keep saying "magical" to annoy those who make fun of me for having an iPad (I am getting the 3G). And also that it "screams." Maybe that will push them over the edge. :D

I have a magical iPad that screams.

I was surprised to find what an excellent book reader it is, both with iBooks and Kindle.

I was surprised I have spent near $100 on apps already...

Don't get me wrong, with a couple of minor exceptions (Facebook App), I have not been disappointed with any of them really, just addictive to keep adding to the collection.

I didn't expect the wifi reception strength to be so much weaker than Mac computers. It never dropped any connections like some others, but it would show 1 bar when my wife's macbook air shows the full 3 bars. May be it was made that way to conserve the battery life?

Well I was surprised how easily it attracts fingerprints. After an hour of use it is mottled with my fingerprints - all over the surface.

    LOL

That's I'd buy one and when I did that I'd use it so often. Then again it's only been 8 days so I wonder if the glow will fade soon.

The iPad is fantastic but the whole "magical" thing is goofy, cringe-worthy, and really undercuts understanding of the iPad's usefulness by implying it's something whimsical rather than a potential true work device. Apple marketing missed bunting on that one. Sorry.

What I didn't expect -- is that I would use it more as a web browser than a book reader. I thought it would be a good book reader but I can't get use to the "glow," the backlight puts off. It's weird b/c I have no problem reading the web, or WSJ, or magazines on it, just books. Maybe Apple could tweak it a little so that the background in more grayish in iBooks.

Every time I hear or read that phrase I think of Lucky Charms ads and want to blurt out, "It's magically delicious!"

Aside from that, I was initially surprised by how bright and clear the display is. Still waiting for my 3G model to ship.

    :D

    Yes, mam. lol

One thing that surprised me tho, is the way Korg stepped up and made one of the best apps (imo) to show off the potential of this CD.
