What was the first thing you liked about mac's?

First thing I liked about macs...

was industrial design. To be honest Macs generally speaking make other computers look like pre-historic machines!

i used to be a windows guru and hated mac's.

then i saw one at bestbuy and tried it the first time and it was pretty cool. the dock, the way everything just works etc.

then 4 month later i bought my mbp :D

I remember seeing the little rainbow-coloured Apple logo on a friend's computer when I was like 12. Back then I had no clue I wanted to be a designer, and didn't know one iota of anything about computers, but I remember I liked the shape of the logo. #1.

I've always liked the Apple logo. When I got older, and Apple came out with the Clamshell MacBooks and blueberry eMacs, it bumped up their image in my mind since IBM, HP, Compaq and Dell were all making ugly black and grey things. I admired them doing something different, even though I still really didn't know the difference in software. #2.

Then, when I saw the Wall•E-ish (you know the ones) iMac I was sold on Apple design. Kind of like seeing some really cute or hot blonde and then - Lo! - she turns out to be the nicest person with lots in common - it started with looks. I fell in love with the PowerBook G4 and lusted after one for years. Since buying my own Mac, and having now experienced both iMac and MacBook Pro (well, and an old Performa from work, that still chugged on like a champ) I'm sold on both quality of hardware and software. #3.

What was the first thing you liked about mac's?

The GUI.
I was used to an Atari ST, which used a Motorola 68000 like the Mac, and ran an Atari specific port of GEM.
Apple sued Digital Research over the interface, but Atari wasn't included because they had developed their own flavor that only ran on STs.
Digital Research's GEM ran on Intels in general, and partly resembled the Lisa and Mac interfaces.

I have a nostalgic connection to Apple because the Apple IIc was my first computer. However, I used PCs primarily up until 1999.

The design, features and functionality of the iMac DV brought me back to Apple, and the iMac G4 got me hooked as a lifelong Mac fan.

I stay a fan because of:

1. Design (Although this has really flat lined since Apple hasn't made major changes to their product designs in years.)
2. Mac OS X (been using it since the public beta.)
3. iLife (No set of multimedia software on the PC rival the ease of use of iLife. I've tried for years to find PC alternatives, and have always been disappointed.)
4. Customer service (I've had a few run-ins with AppleCare, but overall it's the best technical support I've ever received period.)
5. Community (Are we a cult? I'm not sure, but not many companies or products have the type of dedication and enthusiasm the Mac community shares from software developers to end-users.)

Notice price is not on the list? :D

Honestly it was my growing distaste for windows, had been running linux on a few machines but didn't it was polished enough yet so i switched to mac. Always loved the design of apple hardware and owned pretty much every iPod model ever released that was windows compatible but was happy enough with windows XP until the whole vista and needed a new machine so i chose a mac

First experience was with the Mac Plus that my brother bought in college back in '85 or '86. I liked the GUI, but I was still loving my C-64 for its color graphics and bigger screen.

Got into PCs in about '88, and that's what I knew from DOS till Vista (with liberal sprinklings of Linux in college from '93 onward...)

Vista got me so mad that I started seriously looking at the Macs, and OS X was very interesting to me, as it's built on top of UNIX - which means rock solid stability and I could also geek out on it every so often as well.

Finally got my first Mac in January '08 (the Mac in my sig), and like it so much that I don't plan on switching back anytime in the foreseeable future (especially the way Windows 7 is looking...it's not as bad as Vista, but it sure ain't OS X.)

I wish I could go back in time when Steve was building his first computers, I would go up to him and say "Hey, can I help you with your business? Pay me in 20 years time..."

My grandfather was offered a job at Xerox, before it was Xerox and the guy operated it in his garage with only one other person working with him. My granddad just laughed him off. Hindsight, hindsight...

I liked playing with expose. Then I discovered iMovie.

This was on a iMac G4 (which was a friend's friend's iMac. This was around the time of intel iMacs) I also lived the computer. I borrowed a ton of Macs from this person (PB 165, PB 1400CS, beige PMG3 300 and TiBook 550 [ broken hinges ]) then I got my iBook G4 1.2 GHz and next came my PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz
