My first was a 1967 Mustang. The first picture was the original paint, the second is after my dad had it painted a few years ago.

Oops, accidental thread necro... I meant to post in the Best car thread, and wanted the information from this thread... looks like I wound up posting here instead. That can happen I guess when you're not paying attention.

The offending post has be removed, long live the necro!

1.6 or 1.9???

I loved my 1.6 GTi, the gearbox had shorter ratios, it felt like a rally car, still convinced someone had dropped a different profit cam as it idled like poop but once it went into its power band, it was a B-road monster.

My first car though, the 1989 Vauxhall Nova Sting (only 22 left now, and I'm pretty sure mine isn't one of those, the person I sold it to smashed up the front end, which I was pretty sad to hear.) http://howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/vauxhall_nova_sting

*Not the exact car, but the model and colour...

One of the best looking cars in this thread. Bravo!!

Thanks. It was fun, being the first, and having to save my own money to get it. Same for driving lessons & insurance.

The only other car in our family at that time, was my Sister's '49 Studebaker. Being 7 years older, and a bitch, she would not teach me to drive in it, nor even drive it. Ever. I be she wishes she had it today? :p

Dad's McLaughlin-Buick died on the road in '36. Yes, actually before I was born. He took off the plates, pushed it into a ditch, and never drove again. Living in Toronto at the time, it was hardly necessary.

Red 1988 Pontiac LeMans, 4-door. I bought it for a cool $200 when I was 16, and even though it was a fugly piece of crap, I loved that car. I bought it myself, and it meant freedom. For some annoying reason, the front doors would constantly turn orange. Every Friday before me and my friends would go out, I'd head to Home Depot and get a can of red spray paint and fix them up. By the next Friday, they'd be orange again. It also overheated in traffic pretty regularly. Damned car.

I'm in my 20s, but this will make me sound like an old fart, because I swear kids nowadays are entitled and have unrealistic expectations for their first cars. My two younger sisters expect to have luxury cars right off the bat, and they've had all these requirements for what car they will and will not drive. Driving a beater (or any car you paid for entirely yourself) is a life experience everyone should have.

We had that in the UK, it was called a Vauxhall Astra. The GTE had a pretty iconic engine in it, but after that, those cars weren't too great.

My dad had one of those, I think a 1989 model, bought it new. It was the biggest piece of ****. But that takes me back because that car, and my mom's 1980-something Dodge Caravan were the first cars I remember riding in. I never drove it, but I wish I could get that car back and take it for a spin around the block just for nostalgia purposes - as long as I have a couple passengers to help me push when it breaks down.

I love how the ad makes it sound like it's imported from Europe, but IIRC, it was built in South Korea, and that was back when Korea did not have a good reputation when it came to building cars.

I think it was made in Europe until the early 90s when Vauxhall/Opel came out with the mk3 Astra, then GM shipped all the tooling over to Korea for Daewoo.

I know, "L'exciting" my ass, maybe the l'excitement came in wondering if you'd be able to get home in it. Let's just say my AAA paid for itself in high school. Still, it brings back fond memories of tooling around to the movies and beach with my friends. :)

Pretty sure iJohnHenry wins the thread for raddest first car.

I remember all of the breakdowns, of course, this was in the days before cell phones so you had to hope you broke down near somebody's house or place of business.

One of the more memorable times it broke down right in the middle of a busy intersection. Fortunately, some people stopped to help (well, they had to, we were blocking traffic!) and pushed us into a shopping center so my dad could call AAA.

I also recall learning the word "*******" and the middle finger for the first time as a young child when it broke down in the middle of a two lane road and some guy behind us was honking to get us to move out of the way and my dad forgot he had young kids in the car before letting loose.

Ahhh, memories :D

My first car was an '83 Olds Cutlass Cierra that I got from my dad.

The first one I bought on my own was a '90 Mazda 323 SE in blue

1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88. It was actually my dad's, but he had a company truck he drove most of the time, so he let me drive it. Or made me drive it, as I turned into the house errand boy. It was actually similar to this picture. It was a boat, but it was comfy, since it had power windows, door locks, etc. I installed an aftermarket stereo and speakers, so I was really stylin'. :) Sadly, I totaled it about 2 years later.

The first I bought after I totaled the Olds was a 1976 Plymouth Volare. It was taxi yellow, with vinyl bench seats, AM radio, and a slant six, but it was only $500.

My first car was a 72 plymouth duster and I loved that bad boy with a slant 6 engine, it was fast and cool looking. That engine seemed to go on forever, very well made car.

The picture here is not my car though

My first car that I bought about 1979 with my own money was a 1950 Chevy Bomb. Never got to drive it because it needed a transmission and no one my dad knew at the Chevy dealership knew how to work on one that old. It ran but I never got to drive it after the day I drove it home. Google 1950 Chevy Bomb for pics.

My first car that I got to drive full time was a 1970 Chevy Impala. Had a lot of fun in that car. Several years later, I owned another 70 Impala and then again, a 1976 Impala.

Technically this is a lease...paid for by the company.

VW Tiguan (stock photo, but same model, colour etc)

I do want to buy my own car, but at the moment it's hard to justify it.
