First computer bought by my father was a 66 mhz Packard bell. Think it cost like 3000 back then. Had windows 3.1 and something called navigator as an os.

I built the first computer that I actually owned as my own.

I got my first computer on 1993 and I was 10 years old at the time. I was actually waffling back and forth between a PC and a Mac, but choose the PC instead. It was some sort of IBM computer and it had 486SX-33mhz, 4MB of RAM, 256MB HD space. Also it had a 2400 or 9600 baud modem and 3.5" floppy drive and a CD-ROM drive. It came with a 13" VGA CRT monitor that seemed huge and heavy; the screen was very convex.

Mine was also in 1993 but the spec was a lot more humble. Purchased from a local Chinese-ran shop it featured a mighty 386SX/33, 1MB RAM, 40MB hard disk (WD iirc) and a 256K graphics card. Lasted me for a while until it was upgraded to an 486SLC/33 made by Cyrix.

eMac G4. That thing was HUGE. Couldn't watch Youtube on it, but it was a great computer at the time (bought it years after launch btw).

I purchased a Compaq portable with a tiny screen. It weighed 30 lbs. I debated whether to get it or the similar IBM portable, finally choosing the Compaq because the text was a bright amber. No GUI in those days.

Apparently I'm not nearly as old as most people posting in this thread.

My first computer I got new (I had an older Dell beforehand but I forget if it was passed down) was an XPS 720. That is easily one of Dell's most beautiful desktops. I still think the design is stunning.

Atari 65XE as a Christmas present. I think I was 11?

I was pissed my parents didn't get me a Nintendo. I wound up taking the computer apart within a week, to their horror. I just wanted to see what it looked like. Put it back together, started programming, eventually got a disk drive about a year or two later -- I think that sucker was like $250!

Do kind of wish I kept it.

That is cool. I never knew there were pretty PC towers. ;) I see this is from the mid to late 2000s. I remember my G5 Mac as a work of engineering art. It had plastic channels in it to control airflow.

It was definitely inspired by the G5/Mac Pro... but hey, Dell is capable of releasing one piece of art every decade .

We had a C64 when I was young, and got an Amstrad PC20 in the late 80s. Other "notable" machines I've had were an LC III and a B&W G3.

Ti/99-4a

Back when TI used to make consoles. First IBM compatible was an 8mhz 8088 about 5 years after. I remember spending $120 for a replacement 8088 made by NEC which was up to 5% faster at 8mhz... lol.
