If you want to read some good books and hone your critical thinking skills, English Literature is one of many good ways to go. But honestly, I think all majors in college will help you in the critical thinking department. I guess a major is to channel that into a topic which interests you. If I have to say one thing though, the major you choose in college doesn't dictate what you're going to do afterwards. That's up to you! :)

Thrilled to hear that critical thinking skills are still valued. :D

Courses in English Lit, Philosophy, Logic, and the like seem to be of little interest in favor of job training type courses. :(

Biomedical engineering, straight into med school. I started out in aerospace engineering, though.

Energy Business and Finance, still deciding if I want to go an extra spring semester to get my Economics minor (only need 3 classes). I love the classes I am taking and wouldn't change anything in my college career...except for maybe trying a little harder my Freshman and Sophomore years. LOL

In undergrad, I did majors in applied math, economics, and organ performance.

Believe it or not, music degrees are virtually worthless. Silly me.

Organ performance sounds vaguely sexual, so at least you can tell that to girls/dudes.

I'm currently studying Computer Engineering w/ Business Management

I graduated with Computer Engineering 5 years ago, and have never had trouble with finding a job (jumping jobs is common for engineer, as each jump usually means better pay).

One advice I would give is to work on internships whenever possible, as that's one thing I regret not doing.

Well, after trying quite a few majors, as of right now I'm in Music Education and English Literature, and probably going to switch out the Ed with Music Performance.
I'm planning on staying in school for a while. The longer you're there, the longer you can avoid possible unemployment.
