So, iPhone 15 lineup price increases are confirmed?
More likely they'll limit any feature changes so it can be available in larger quantities at launch. I likely would have upgraded to a 14 from my 13 because I'm an idiot, but won't now because its halfway through the cycle.

If the product works, is easy to set up, and works over 10 years, then why do you need tech support? That doesn't add up
the only time I used tech support via a phone the experience was pleasant
I needed to know if  was still selling the MacBook Air m1 a week before Ventura was released.

the other products I purchased and needed tech help they were clueless and demanded a phone number.

"…I think people are willing to really stretch to get the best they can afford in that category."

Cook talks like the the multi-millionaire that he is. It shows that he doesn't have to worry about sky high utility bills or the fact that a dozen of eggs is over $5 in most places. He's clueless about the average Joe's predicament.

I think a lot of people are going "to really stretch" to buy replacement batteries for their older phones this year if the prices go up.

We are witnessing the very, very first stirrings of Tim Cook handing over. This year is his 25th year at Apple. I think he'll announce he's leaving by December, then leave sometime next year.

With the avent of AIs such as ChatGPT, if they don't SERIOUSLY improve Siri at WWDC this year, I'll be deceived for like the 5th year in a row. Siri has to be far more intelligent than it is now.

I've tried ChatGPT quite a lot, and as much as it can be stupid with some areas (like Math), it's surprisingly useful in other areas (like programming). Apparently ChatGPT 4 will be 1,000 times more knowledgeable.

So... if AI is so incredibly important, do y'all think that Apple keyboard auto correction is going to stop sucking at some point?

Asking for a friend.

In Scandinavia it's common that you purchase through your operator. In this way total cost of mobile will be less than purchasing from an electronic shop and without any extra cost like interest etc.
As I am purchasing through my firm, I don't need to bother about taxes. But the price difference between my 12PM 256gb and 14PM 256gb is around 43% if I am purchasing today. That's why I still keep my 12PM. And now Samsung offers 23 ultra 512gb for less than the price of iphone 12PM 128gb. The price difference between Apple and Samsung was never this big.

But does the operator offer 12 or 24 month financing or do you have to pay for the phone outright? In the USA operators do that, so the average person who can’t buy an iphone outright can certainly buy it in monthly payments. That’s why americans no longer see the iphone as a symbol of luxury and status as people do in the rest of the world.

Apple missed the cloud and Apple is just about missing the AI.
- First move, Apple wins over MS with its mobile OS/the iPhone.
- Second move, MS strikes back with the cloud and nowadays Azure and DevOps is what people are talking about.
- Just right now, everyone talks about ChatGPT and guess who invested 10 billion dollars in OpenAI? MS did, not Apple.

Apple fights its customers with bugs, outdated connectors and it uses the AppStore to lock competition out and users in. Meanwhile, tech evolves:

Me: "Hey ChatGPT, can you write a python script that calculates a fibonacci number?"
ChatGPT: Sure, here it is ….

Siri: Look, here is what I found in the internet: (Presenting some links)

Me: "can you modify this code without recursion?" (please note that this question relates to the last question. it is context sebsitive)

ChatGPT: Sure, no problem. Here is a script to calculate the Fibonacci number of a given number:

Siri: Flatline .....

Interesting. It almost seems like ChatGPT has a future as a template creator.

I have changed from upgrading the iPhone every two years to upgrading every three years. The iPhones are so powerful and good that I don't see any reason to upgrade that often anymore.

Customers are willing to stretch to get the best iPhone they can afford eh...

Expect all the major upgrades to only go to the 15 Ultra and Pro (assuming the regular size model is still called Pro and doesn't get the Ultra treatment), with the 15 basically being a 14 with the 14 Pro chip and maybe main sensor.

Cook said that overall, Apple has a "low share and a competitive advantage with Apple silicon," which means the company is "well positioned within the market" in the long term.

Their solution is likely to obsolete more Intel based Macs this year and drive upgrades. I wouldn't be surprised if they drop macOS 14 support for 2018 and older devices. Or they might turn Ventura into a LTS release for those Macs.
They're going to drop ALL Intel support for 14. Count on it.

Which is kind of a shame. Before AS, you could find a technical reason for support cutoffs, even if it was as trivial as replacing one kext with a 64 bit driver. After Apple Silicon came out, some of the Intel cutoffs seemed to have no rhyme or reason apart from advancing the Intel shutdown overall.

I hate to see still well working machines that would trivially be supported cut out from support, it's just more junk in a landfill, even if not immediately.

Open wallet, tithe to Apple.
Tim: You want this phone? Again!

Transaction complete. For now...

They need to get their 30% in all transactions.

The stock price of Apple was $70 at the end of 2019. Now it is $140. It doubled in 3 years. This is outstanding. Where do you get double in investment in 3 years? Nowhere.

Good to know that U.S. manufacturing will not be more expensive.
it depends what is being manufactured.
FAB is mostly automated, not labor intensive.
Most of Intel chips are manufactured in USA.

manufacturing some parts in phone are labor intensive, that would increase cost.

The marketshare speaks for itself. Apple marketshare in many markets like my country is paltry thanks to their overly marked up prices beyond their original intended positioning. Considering we are the largest market in SE Asia, that's quite alarming for a company like Apple. If we had close to US prices, you can bet more people will buy Apple products without hesitations.

Apple priced the 2022 SE higher than the iPhone 11 in my country. That shows you how messed up their pricing is here, screwing up their own price segmentations and lineup.
Apple has approximately 30% profit margins, International prices vary based on $ conversion rates.

I agree that that's what the shareholders want. Doesn't mean I like it as a consumer, thus my point stands. :)
Consumers want cheapest products possible with best technology, Shareholders want largest profit margin possible.
So what customers want and what shareholders want will never align.

“Apple doesnt understand pricing. Their market share is too low because people dont want to buy their overpriced stuff.”

vs

Considering the 14 Pro models being sold out even in my country (regardless of their outrageous pricing), I tend to believe what Tim said about this might have some weight. Apple's brand power is really strong, and many people are willing to pay up to have that Apple logo. Status symbol in regions like Asia is no joke.
“Apple products are sold out here, because they have pricing power, and people here are willing to pay up for the stuff”

Which is it?

Its gonna get worse as many companies swap Intel Macs for AS because those are gonna be T2 locked with no way to repurpose them.

Operators offer 12/24 or 36(Since iphone 12) months financing. iPhones had never been a symbol of luxury or status in Scandinavian countries. People buy phones which they are comfortable with.

I guess my point is - so?

I use both OneDrive and iCloud on my Macbook and run ChatGPT in Safari. Whatever technological advancements these companies may have on the software front, it doesn't change the fact that I am running them primarily as apps on Apple hardware.

Likewise, unless Microsoft is able to package openAI in a sexy piece of hardware that makes people willing enough to migrate over to windows from the Apple ecosystem, I fail to see the threat to Apple. We also don't know if Microsoft has overpaid for openAI (reminds me a lot of all these huge tech giants making flashy acquisitions, only to wind them down later because they can't find a viable business model for said products).

What am I missing again?
