reader mode is definitely still there i see it briefly displayed in the url bar many times a day, siri raise to speak wasnt "lost" it was intentionally replaced by "hey siri"
Definitely a loss -- I have no use for 'Hey Siri', but used Raise-to-Speak quite often.

Amazes me, although it shouldn't, how this thread sounds just like the IOS7 threads just after it came out and IOS6 the same. Maybe I'll just now start a thread about how bad IOS9 is - the worst release ever and why can't I go back to IOS8.
Personally, I have found IOS8 seems a little slower on my 5s than 7 but I've also found with every update it seems to take a few days for the system performance to improve - don't know what is doing but after 3 or 4 days it seems fine. All my apps seem to work fine (more and more ads with every app update). Was a little surprised about photos seeming to be "gone" but I sync with MBP and just created a folder with all my prior camera rolls and synced that event so photos are back on phone.

Exactly. People have either selective or short-term memory around here. Every iOS release from at least iOS 4 on has been the worst one ever. And then with each new release, the preceding version "never had problems as bad as this one does".

For that matter, each new phone has defects worse than the last one. Yet I seem to remember widespread reports of the back of the iPhone 3G cracking under exactly zero stress. The iPhone 6 should be a mangled mess of glass shards and bent metal straight out of the box at this rate.

The real issue is that nothing is perfect- every piece of software and hardware that comes out of any company is bound to have some sort of flaw. Many Apple fans just don't know how to grapple with this fact, and it shows in these forums. In a sense, Apple fans are the ones making these issues big enough for competitors to latch on to.

It's actually not gone, just renamed -- not sure why. Now it's called 'Recently Added'.

Problem is, Recently Added does exactly what its name would suggest- it only displays recently added photos. Meaning after a certain length of time, it stops displaying older photos.

ios8 is still laggy for me. As I said in another post somewhere it's more laggy for me than jelly bean on the kids sgs2. Yes, I have re installed multiple times.

I've installed MyRoll which gives back the Camera Roll functionality

Loss:

Where the HELL did my play list thumbnails go?! This really pisses me off. I was pondering that there didn't seem to be any real advantage to ios8, and then I saw this. Checking the thumbnail out is how I found the playlist I wanted. Now it's just a string of text. FAR less easily picked out of a list.

Nice one Apple! WTF were you thinking.

man I hate hearing this stuff... iOS 8 seems ok on my iPad but I just cleared a bunch of photos and videos off my iPhone 5 (16GB) to make room... just can't pull the trigger -- too scared

You might lose the old camera roll, but you'll be gaining Handoff, Spotlight enhancements, Safari extensions, Family Sharing (which is a bug-ridden nightmare, but now that we've gotten it working it's awesome), Health and Apple Pay (neither of which are fully implemented yet, though), iCloud Drive, instant notification responses, universal TouchID, HomeKit, and predictive typing that actually works well.

Stability. That's what we lost.

I watched my wife on a FaceTime call tonight upside down, and sideways. My screen would not rotate to up. It's been fun this week on this buggy ride.

No joke. I can have safari and podcast freeze on me after I pull down and dismiss the notification shade. I had to force-quit both of them to fix the issue.

What you "scared" about ?

The beauty of choice.

Go with your gut feeling.

I'm on iOS 8.0.2 on my iPhone 5s with no issues or remorse.

I mean... lots of negatives/issues posted in this thread... but thanks for the inspiration. Think I've just gotta do it :)

I know I know, I'm really excited about Safari Extensions and Family Sharing, as well as some of the other stuff coming later like Apple Pay.

Thanks for the positive thoughts :)

Lost overall smoothness, snappiness and feel of polish.

Gained Android like feel. Finally the two operating systems are at parity with each other.

Think 8.1 will fix that. It's always been like this with Apple. The original launch of the operating system blows but then by the beginning of the next year it becomes solid (i.e. 7.1.2).
