I agree with you that the white macbook still has a very strong market that white finish is like a trademark signature everyone loves the design and it does the job that is why i will be purchasing a white macbook :D

Everyone?!? I certainly don't love it and the sooner Apple chanegs to a black keyboard and mouse the better. The white plastic has always looked ugly and toy-like to me, plus it far too easily becomes dirty and grubby looking very quickly on the MacBook and keyboards. :(

I agree. If hey are only offering 1 color, it should be black instead of white. Whilst I love my white MacBook, it shows dirt so easily, I should've go the Black one!

i think whatever may happen with the white macbook it will be amazing because apple has always seem to have out done themselves

I thought the tablet would be replacing the whitebook but now I doubt it

Something else is coming in September besides the tablet and usual iPod updates.

They won't - it'll likely be the iTablet, or more closely the iPad - to go along with the iPod.

I must admit, the iPad sounds like it belongs in an entirely different aisle in the store than the iPod... ;)

(Plus it might be confusing to have such similarly named products, not that the name iPod isn't so well-known it probably wouldn't matter. Maybe they'll reverse ever-smaller naming schemes and go with iPod mega. :D)

The device will have the word "Mac" in the name because Steve wants the word "Mac" in the name.

Being a tablet, it will also have an indicator thus in the name.

Hence, MacTablet.

As opposed to MacTab (which does not sound aesthetically pleasing), MacPad (which, while it rhymes with trackpad, leads one to believe it is less of a revolutionary product and more of a laptop touchpad with a screen), or anything with the letter "i" in it, since they're done with that.

Yeah something else is coming .......

A new low end $999 .... Macbook PRO

The Apple Tablet

The white plastic Macbook? People will be on here posting " What happened to the Macbook? Where did it go? Why did Apple get rid of the whitebook? "

I'm probably wrong, every company needs a low end, low cost price loss leader!!! :D

The Macbook has always been the cheaper alternative to the Pro, and since the refresh there was little to distinguish the Macbook from the Pro besides the size. So it only made sense to merge them. But the Macbook brand like I said is supposed to be the cheaper alternative. So what I think you will see in the future is something similar to the Mac Mini, the cheapest of all of the desktops. So I think the Macbook brand will become more of a sub $1000 laptop, maybe dipping to the $500-$600 range, providing an excellent compact laptop (like the air but maybe a little bigger but cheaper?) something that would appeal to people who aren't looking to spend a lot but want a Mac. The Tablet is going to be something completely different but I think the Macbook brand will stay with more affordable machines and work its way into the PC laptop market even more.

That or like my Mac Mini comparrison it could just become something that only gets updated once every year and a half and really doesn't get supported very much....

Are you saying in 2015+ we will still have the same basic plastic MacBook with no design changes whatsoever? I don't think so.

Whyever not? Bic hasn't changed its basic plastic ball point pen design in over 40 years. The Land Rover Defender has looked more or less identical for 61 years. Good products both of them, and nobody has ever seen fit to create a Defender made of carbon fibre that looks like a Bugatti and handles as if controlled by the Gods themselves.

However, I do agree. The MacBook will change. Things always change at Apple. Imagine if the iMac still looked like its G4 predecessor. Well no, bad example, that was the best designed computer that has ever been and will ever be. But you get my point.

If anything, I think that Apple might toy with the idea of colours as they have done with the iPod Mini/Nano. At least I hope they bring back the BlackBook, since they have white and black iPhones and the iPod (classic).

Failing that I can imagine in a few years time the MacBook will get the 12" PowerBook treatment and we will see the loss of the extra wide bezel and lip around the keyboard/palmrest. This will be echoed in the Pro/Air lines too. And possibly the iMac and 24" LED ACD will follow too in order to play the image across the lines.

Time will tell. Until then, we can all squabble. In the end, all we have are opinions.

I always believed that the black bezel was to focus your view onto the screen. That's why the front of the White iPhone is also black. It's a better viewing experience.

That is indeed one of the things Apple boasted about it; "the black bezel framing your movies perfectly" and so on. However, I do think it will eventually shrink. Maybe it'll only shrink to the width of the 15" MacBook Pro bezel, maybe it'll be completely sheared off, who can tell. Personally, I think it'll be sheared off after Apple decides that OLED screens are a good idea and we end up with a computer where the screen is roughly the same thickness as the end of a USB jack (⅛ of an inch).

Hmm imagine the day when the MacBook is only half an inch tall. Well there wouldn't be room for an Ethernet jack but there would be for USB, power, audio and the Mini Display Port. Maybe FireWire400 still... Nah. They'll just have to make FireWire 3200 the same size as 400. :D

Future of MacBook

I think the MacBook Air was a transitional device, sort of like Snow Leopard, it improved leopard but didn't change that much. It was just there as a "necessary" update. I think the current (white) MacBook will go away, the MacBook Air will drop the air and become the MacBook. Either that or the Air will stay the air and the mac book will go away all together. :apple:
