It was always marketed as a companion to the iPhone. If you've seen it marketed otherwise, please provide links.

I think this guy's posted that link in at least 3-4 threads by now as evidence something has changed since the September announcement when it hasn't. There's definitely a game of telephone going on with this story - I think we're at "purple monkey dishwasher" with it (if you get my Simpsons reference).

I'm curious what everyone's main usage of the Apple Watch will be?

- For notifications, mostly.
- Siri, for questions once in a while.
- As a timer, once in a while.

When I was wearing the WiMM watch, which had WiFi, I used it all the time in waiting rooms to play games, read news, etc.

But that was because I didn't take my smartphone with me all the time. So the watch was often my primary comm / viewer device.

Obviously whenever I did have my smartphone or a tablet handy, I was not going to waste the watch's battery, nor want to use its small screen.

So it depends on where you are, and how far away your bigger and more useful iPhone (or iPad) is :)

I have no doubt that Apple will have all of the bands available to buy separately. As far as band compatibility, a lot is still unknown. All of the bands *appear* to use the same mechanism, but it wouldn't suprise me to see certain bands belonging to Edition and SS Apple Watch to somehow be physically incompatible with the Sport Edition.

That was my thought too. I'm wondering if the mechanism on the Apple Watch Sport would possibly be slightly smaller, only allowing the rubber bands to work. But let's hope Apple wouldn't pull something like that :)

yeah because people were still talking about how they are going to measure all of things with this watch and still talking about all the health features they are going to monitore using the watch althought it wasnt never said officially (only rumours after rumours) and now there is some new rumours about "health" features cut off. well no one knows, maybe you just buy a golden mickey mouse watch or a super health monitoring device. nevertheless you need keep your legs on the ground when nothing is official.

I could really see myself using it a lot - for fitness, really for all sorts of things. I'm notorious for missing calls and notifications as I like to keep my iPhone in my backpack. An Apple watch would be useful here.

Sadly... I don't know if I'll get one. I feel waiting for the second generation is a good idea and also I don't really have the money, especially as my iPad 2 will be up for replacement at the end of the year or mid next year.

The watch will still do everything it says that it will do on the Apple website, including the fitness tracking.

Some of the things I will be using my Apple Watch for -

- Sending and listening to text messages using Siri.
- Viewing incoming email content to see if I need to respond immediately.
- Same for FB.
- Keeping track of my blood sugar readings (I hope they come out with an app for this).
- Checking yardage on the golf course when paired with my iPhone golf GPS app.
- Listening to music when I exercise.
- Setting and checking various clock alarms (every time I eat a meal, I have to set an alarm to remind me to check my blood sugar 2 hours later).
- Setting alarms to remind me to take my diabetes medicine.
- Showing off pictures of my grandson :).

- Oh, I forgot. Apple Pay if my credit union ever gets on board or I decide to switch banks to Wells Fargo.

Plus I am sure there are many other things I can't think of right now. This device is going to really become an integral part of my daily routine.

Yeah that's true. I do hope Apple's going to release Bluetooth earbuds which go along with the :apple:Watch. That would be awesome.

Apple already makes BT headphones. The Beats Solo2 (probably the first pair of Beats that have a decent sound and build quality) will probably be promoted for :apple:Watch use.

Doubt seriously they will make 'cheep' earbuds that are BT. BT requires a radio, DSP, amplifier and a power supply, making them much more experience and complex. Plus earbuds are crap for SQ and bad for you hearing.

Beats also has wireless earphones.

Not exactly cheap, and don't know what kind of sound quality they have, but they do make one.

Oh, and have you tried the Bose earphones? I wouldn't say they sound like crap.

I'm surprised no one mentioned sports scores. The Watch will be coming out just as baseball season and the second seasons for the NBA and NHL get underway.

My primary uses will be:

Audio imessages
Fitness tracking
Time #
Stopwatch/countdown
Weather glances
Sports scores
Transit tracking (really helpful when riding a bike and headed for the train)
Order alerts? (I'm a part-time delivery driver and orders are sent out via an app - if the alerts work that would be great as I wouldn't need to pull out my phone every few minutes to check).

April, please hurry and get here already! :)

I think I'll use the apple remote feature quite a lot. It'll be much easier controlling through my watch which will always be on my wrist rather than finding the remote every time.

In my country we have this check-in system for the public transport. I hope Apple opens up the NFC SDK for devs so my state can create an app which lets us check in and out with the :apple:Watch. Other than that, I'll use it mainly for notifications and executing simple tasks using Siri, such as setting alarms and making phone calls (yes, I'm that kind of person).

time.

my daily has been a bit wonky these days, so having an easy to see digital timepiece that is elegant would be very welcome for everyday use.

notifications, glances, health/fitness, and digital touch are all just nice features to have.

I think that eventually such applications will be allowed. Apple has slowly opened functionality on the phones to devs, so I have no doubt they will do the same for the watch eventually.

I would use it mainly for tracking time (obviously), fitness tracking, changing tracks/volume while working out with my bluetooth headset, listening to music at the gym, and the other various apps that will be useful for it.

I have some nice watches but over the past year I been wearing my Nike Fuelband in anticipation of the Apple Watch.

My usage will be simple. It'll be a watch to tell the time. A quick glance to see why my phone is going off such as a call or text. And health and step tracking. That's it. I doubt I'll be installing any apps to the watch. Also Apple pay.

Im not sure I have a MAIN use as I need pretty much all the features it offers.

* Quickly glancing at and responding to texts while in the car (I travel to meetings).

* Quickly answering a call somewhere where its too inconvenient to pull out my phone (e.g.: on the loo, running to catch a train, on the treadmill etc).

* Calendar reminders (really important and super useful for my type of job).

* Discreetly glancing at messages during meetings.

* Fitness abilities to assist with running and cycling.

Basically the Apple Watch will save a LOT of the pulling the iPhone out of my jacket pocket that I currently do all day long. While some people have no use for a smart watch, for me it can't get here quickly enough. I can see myself instantly coming to rely on its useful features.

At least 80% of my daily communication takes place through WhatsApp.

They better be working on WhatsApp for the Watch of it will be almost useless to me.

And seeing how "active" the WhatsApp developer are at integrating new features... I better not hold by breath...

I'm really looking forward to the convenience of knowing why my iPhone is vibrating in my pocket without taking it out. I hope the Apple Watch will be great for quickly dismissing or replying to iMessages and other notifications.

This right here is the one feature I hope they correct with this watch. I want a setting where if the watch knows I'm wearing it then it will silence all phone tones and vibrations and only notify via the watch. If I take it off, tones and vibes for the phone turn back on.

It always fascinates me how people use their Apple devices differently. One of the reasons I love them; there are so many unique ways to use them.

I will use mine much the way I use my Pebble but I am very excited to get the fitness tracking features. I am already used to seeing my notifications, time, who is calling me, and text messages.

Not sure if I will use Apple Pay much more than now but I am sure I will do it more as more places use it. I know I will use the passbook features for Starbucks.

For fitness I am very goal oriented so the interface looks great for me.

I am a concierge so I can glance at my watch in front of clients at times when I could never pull out my phone. The pebble saved me once when I got a call from my alarm company. My clients did not mind me taking a quick call when I said who was calling.

So I know I will love it because I have already used many of its features.

Unless the price is insane I want to get the stainless option with a simple band and then upgrade to a fancy band later. I live on Kauai so pre order is my only option. I will not be able to see one in person first. BUT, I am going to Berlin and Paris in May so hope to see the fancier bands in person and possibly choose something there.
