I've had knife blades that have been DLC coated for decades and, although some are better coated than others, they will definitely scratch. Just look up youtube videos of DLC coated knives and you'll see these guys pound these things until the coating comes off. In some cases if the abrasion is deep enough the metal will show. It's not magic, just a nice protective coating that will take the brunt of the usual impacts but can show wear. Just take care of your stuff guys.

Yes, but that's under controlled conditions. It's not a magic force-field.

Accidentally scrape your black watch against a brick wall or slide your hand (palm down) over a concrete surface and it's going to scratch. Particularly the finely engineered edges. The surface layer may be hard, but the metal below it will give.

So you'll still have to look after your watch. If you do that, it seems the coating will last for ever.

This is funny. No one ever complains about scratches on their Omega or Rolex. They know eventually it will show micro scratches one way or another after years of regular use. Even second-handed luxury watches are expected to have scratches, maybe some dents.

Must be coming from the iPhone perspective. All those drop tests scaring people with scratches, drops, and dents.

I have a Citizen with a black DLC coating on now. I've found it to be extremely durable. I really don't give it a second thought.

I'm also not aware of any factory-issue Omega or Rolex with a black DLC coating. So, I don't understand how that is relevant.
