I tried deleting IE from WIndows XP a while back t put FF on it. I couldn't delete IE, no matter how hard I tried. I could never decide if it was an OS thing, or my comp was just garbage.

You do not need an internet browser to access an FTP server.
You can do it via Terminal (the command line utility).
Heck, you can even do it via Finder!
The point is without the address, you can't connect.

You would need to use the terminal along with curl or wget. You could even install Lynx if you had macports. Thats what the true command line junkies do.
That was where I entered the world of Q-Link on a Commodore Modem 1660. I remember there was a cable to connect the onboard sound to the modem to enable tone dialing, as the computer generated the tone, not the modem.
We need a new thread where all old coots can remark about the old days. Who wants to go first with the best limmerick involving "face down, 9 edge first"?
Actually, if you delete all browsers, when you perform a software update, it will allow you to download the latest version of Safari.
